Star Wars v. Transformers

Postby Armorock » Mon Jan 14, 2008 9:10 pm

Motto: "I would like to negotiate your surrender!"
Weapon: Dual Photon Launchers
More Specifically

Movie Megatron vs. Luke Skywalker in an X-wing.

In the new republic books Luke could control multiple torpedoes with the force. Megatron has a fusion cannon and could take Luke's x-wing with one or two shots. Luke could probably out fly him and blast him with armor piercing lasers. I dunno whose gonna win, but that's why I'm asking you.

Luke SkyWalker sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I say Megtron smashes up his ship but saves him from the explosion so he may eat him instead!

WEll lets see...
The battle drags on forever with Luke and Megatron shooting each other like crazy.
Finally out of pure genious Megatron contacts one of his followers and tells them to come collect his spark.
Before the decepticon comes Megatron gets close enough to Luke and selfdestructs, killing himself and Luke.
But,... he keeps his spark alive for a few minutes and the decepticon arrives just in time and takes it back to rebuild megatron.
Therefore...

KO

Megatron Wins

Skywalker would destroy megatron. Proton Torps are like mini-nukes, and if we've learned one thing, Tranformer + Nuke = Dead Transformer.

You're right, he's a Transformer who can survive the cold of space and deep space, but can't handle snow.

1. robots dont feel cold

2. the snow and ice would probably freeze his circuits

I just don't get why people are arguing a single-pilot craft can keep up workable temperatures in space, but a 40ft robot can't.

Exactly Luke would freeze to death before the end of the battle

If he was outside the X-wing, sure he'd freeze. However the X-wing has life support systems. What life support does, is keep the cockpit of the X-wing filled with breathable air, and a decent temperature so the pilot can continue functioning.

What my original statement was meant to do was poke fun, that Megatron who turns into an interstellar jet, can survive the temperatures in space, but cannot handle arctic conditions. As we saw in the movie.

Now, for Gigastorm to change my quote from "joking" to "right" is well, wrong.

Now, time for a little science lesson.

1. robots dont feel cold

This is probably true. But then we don't know what Transformers can and cannot feel. Since they aren't just robots, they are sentient machines. They feel pain, loss, happiness, they would probably feel heat. However they can probably shut off any receivers to block out the feeling of cold, if they happen to be working in an extremely cold environment.

2. the snow and ice would probably freeze his circuits

Now for the science lesson. Anyone who even knows a small bit about science and temperatures, would smack you for saying this.

The scale to measure temperature in space is the Kelvin scale.

0 Kelvin = Absolute Zero
+275 Kelvin = The temperature water freezes
+373 Kelvin = The temperature water boils

Nasa wrote:If we put a thermometer in darkest space, with absolutely nothing around, it would first have to cool off. This might take a very very long time. Once it cooled off, it would read 2.7 Kelvin. This is because of the "3 degree microwave background radiation." No matter where you go, you cannot escape it -- it is always there.

http://imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/ask_a ... 0301b.html

Now the North Pole, where Megatron froze, their lowest temperature is -59 degrees Fahrenheit.

-59 F = 222.5944444 kelvin

So, Megatron can withstand 2.7 degrees Kelvin, but he can't stand 222 degrees Kelvin?

See, I was not arguing who would win. I'm just surprised, and appalled that someone tried to tell me, that snow and ice put Megatron out for the count when the much lower temperatures of space didn't.

Megatron is probably more maneuverable than an X-wing, even with Luke piloting it. However, if Luke did manage to hit Megatron with a proton torpedo, Megatron would probably be done for.

The only reasoning I can find for the whole ice thing is either he was really weak and either vulnerable or in sleep, or the water itself actually did something to screw with his internals, maybe a combo of both. Then again, it's just a movie, so it could be magic ice. Generally a director only tries to please what the general public knows in terms of realism.

I would say Megatron would probably wing, considering his unorthodox tactics in his jet mode. I doubt many combatants are ready to directly slam into their opponents in a dogfight.

it depends at what point in his training luke is. if he has full use of the force and its later in his life he is the most powerful force user in existence. palpatine could destroy an entire armada with a force storm, so luke should have no trouble.

if its a straight dogfight im not sure. luke would still have jedi reflexes to help him and the firepower in star wars is off the scale. im inclined to vote luke, megatron seemed to use his vehicle mode like a person uses a car, its a way for him to quickly get from point a to point b, and then the transforms and tears point b apart. hes probably skilled in vehicle mode, but luke is one of the best pilots out there, and he has the force guiding his aim, evasion, and giving him a heads up on most danger.

as for the megatron freezing in space/ice thing, maybe he sufferent some kind of damage on the way down that skrewed up his temperature shielding systems, or maybe he can handle extremes in temperature, but the sudden change from cold, to heat when entering the atmosphere and then the sudden cold put him in stasis, and then the cold temperatures in the arctic kept him there becuase his systems cant fully activate in cold temperatures. or something.

Transformers whichever would win cos Star Wars is overrated and overexposed and over promoted.

Transformers would blast bad guys from star wars to ribbons.

Oh for crying out loud. Megatron had problems when he reached Earth because of the extreme temp differences/changes. He went from the cold of space to the very hot atmo entry to landing in ice. The ice could not support his weight, not to mention the heat he was generating, so he fell through the ice in the the sub-zero temps of the artic and his systems froze up (so to speak).

I'm calling five seconds to "Banhammering."

Morons and pathetic simplicity.

Megatron's new movie mode is of a Terrestrial Jet, one not designed for space flight, or the necessary maneuvers in such an environment. Without the ability to snap roll in space or perform any number of standard for starfighter maneuvers turns this in Skywalkers favor, Nuclear Torpedoes notwithstanding, High Mega-to low-gigaton Laser Cannons fully in play.

Primus(Cybertron) would batter the Death Star to atoms.Crush it with moons.

And the most annoying characters in Star wars should get pulverised.
That franchise eccells at annoying.

This is Fantasy battles, after all, where popularity outweighs...well, everything else.

Just a tiny nitpick: the Turbolaser Commentaries page
http://www.stardestroyer.net/tlc/Power/index.html
rates an X-wing's lasers at about 600 GigaWATTS per shot. According to Atomic Rockets' Boom Table
http://www.projectrho.com/rocket/rocket3x.html
That's not even quite a kiloton. I think you're thinking the light TL's on a Star Destroyer.

Not that it wouldn't still ruin Movie Megs' ****, just not by such a massive margin.
