The truth is that no matter how you feel about the LAMs that they done more to elevate The Transformers from cult status to mainstream appeal. Without Spielberg the first movie probably would never have been made and they might have not gotten Bay to direct them without Spielberg or vice versa. So the fact that we Transfans are enjoying a Golden Age of The Transformers that puts the 80s to shame is because of these two men who stuck their careers and reputations on the line for these 3 films.

The Transformers have been alive and thriving for years before Bay got his hands on the film. New products would have came w/o the film, and we would have had more modern G1 stuff if the movie lines were not eating up shelve space. Your last comment was irrevelant to what I am talking about and really makes no sense. Mainstream bring s nothing to the table, but greed and bandwagoners.
Again, I can't wait until the fall.......

I know the franchise has done much better recently, thanks to the movies, but come on. Shakespeare didn't save drama just because Aeschylus dies centries before. I'm not sure why we have to pretend the past never was becasue we need to be careful not to hurt the fragile sensibilities of new fans, or whatever.

I'm not making any such claim that the franchise was dead prior to the movies. I don't believe that at all.
The idea that the franchise is better off not having had 4+ years of mainstream promotion is absurd though.

Before them, though, there are lots of others who would deserve those places: Aaron Archer, Don Fig, Simon Furman, Pat Lee, Yūki Ōshima, to name a few.

We all know how this arguement goes. The movies saved/destroyed a franchise that was in desperate need of revival/hanging in there for 20+ years, and the other side is completely wrong for their opinion.
I'm not trying to incite anythign or stir any pots, but is it really, really really too much for people to say that Transformers was not on the brink of collapse before the new movies came out? I'm not yelling like a nut over here, and I know full well the movies have done great things for the franchise. But everytime this comes up we get lectured about how the movies saved everything.

It's not about liking or hating the movies, its about getting rid of this stupid idea that the brand was a fossil until Shia LeBouf acted badly in front of a green screen.
30 years of beautiful tradition, you're god damned right I'm living in the past. I just don't get why it's company policy to selectively forget.
SJ21 wrote:Transformers wasn't dead when the first Bay movie came out. There were Transformers toys out there. But once that movie came out, Transformers became an everyday reference for kids again.
Case in point: I teach for a living. For 9 years I have kept a Megatron and an Optimus Prime on my desk. Before the first Bay movie came out, I had to explain to the kids why I had a two robots on my desk and who they were. After the movie the kids tell me all about when they saw the movies and they toys they have.

Pretty lame.

Amen brother. I don't hate the movies either, but I don't think Michael Bay has any talent whatsoever. The only reason why the movie is cool is because of the CGI which he had nothing to do with. Don't worry though, people will be jumping off the bandwagon after the summer is over.

You know, it works easily the other way. Being a mod means you can't voice your opinion because as soon as you do someone cries that you're oppressing theirs.
That's why I don't give a damn, I'll argue any and everything on here. As long as people abide by the rules of not insulting others, everything stays on track.
That doesn't mean you are prevented from ripping other people's opinions apart when they're based on weak conclusions and absent facts.
If you want to say something in public, be prepared for public scrutiny.
And as for the mods here being frustrating? I can show you the mod logs sometime. We don't bother with 99% of the things said on here. Hardly anyone is ever banned or warned.
I pretty much refuse to let anything bad be said about the staff here. They work too hard keeping the news updated and preventing the forums from being flooded by Russian and Chinese spam bots.

The humor you are referring to is inappropriate toliet humor ony a five year old would find funny. I actually found that scene to be idiotic and pretty much described Mr. Bay's attitude and committment to makin the Transformers a great film.
I did not take his comment as sarcasm, especially coming from a mod. It came across as egotistical and authorative. If he was being sarcastic, as you say, you could not tell at first glance.

Seriously, you must be joking.......a golden age? No, that has come and gone about twenty years ago. What makes you believe mainstream is a good way to go? I would rather have cult status. At least then you don't have people voting for the likes of Michael Bay over Frank Welker. Again, this summer cannot come and go quick enough. Thankfully Bay's bs version of the Transformers is finally come to an end.
Are you trying to coin a new term?Because its not working.bandwagoners
If they made movie different from this one and made sucess, would you complain because it was mainstream?About greed,well...Hasbro has always made profit with Transformers.Mainstream bring s nothing to the table, but greed and bandwagoners.
we would have had more modern G1 stuff if the movie lines were not eating up shelve space.
Their parents are to blame for that as they don't introduce children to the Transformers.
Have you seem or talked talked every parent? You are generelizing it.They just barely take the time to squeeze in a 2hr movie mayble once a month.
Who are the true Transformers? There are many incarnations and none is more true than the other.Who are you to say what is a true fan? Both of my sons, ages 2 and 3, know who the Transformers are. the real Transformers.
Its seems that you only G1 to them, there are many versions and none are better or moe true than others. They watch the cartoon practially at least once a day because they love it. I never forced it on them because I liked it.But they LOVE Transformers G1.I showed them the last 25 min of the live action movie and it flat out scared them to death when they saw Megatron. My son kept saying, "Daddy....thats not Megatron...."
Once again you are insulting people for nothing and its your opinion, not an fact. The plot sucks in all the new movies, the actors are crap because they are overpaid, and the director is an egotistical moron that had to have made a deal with the devil to get where he is today. Because he is a talentless idiot that could not convey a nursery rhyme thru popup books. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a Transformers movie done right, with just a liitle bit of camp, because it is a robot movie. But the new Transformers movies are way too dark and it takes itself way too seriously. The Transformers designs themselves even convey this.
