The official Classics Minor Mods Thread.
I like the insignias on the alt modes. It probably wouldn't bother me so much, if they'd at least put a real insignia somewhere on the bot mode. I was never really a fan of rub signs, and when that's the only symbol they put on a bot my rebellious nature takes over. I'm surprised I haven't completely gotten rid of the damn things.
If I paint the rims, it'll just be what would be the wheel on a real car. I'd deffinately leave the brake disk detail silver. Probably won't paint them, though. His trim color is silver, so it makes sense to leave his rims that color.

I have faith in your abilities, RL. Make it happen!

As you may or may not know, I am building a trailer/armor for my Classics Ultra Magnus. However, I also did some slight mods to his paint job, most importantly to the head, Like Redline, I did the knees and the gun as well, but the head was the most important. On top of painting the crest and face plate sky blue, I actually managed to make his light piping red. It isn't a bright scarlet red; rather it is a deep, purplish crimson, like black cherry, but I did manage to give him red light piping. The trick is to paint the entire piece, not just the optics themselves with two coats of red clearcoat. When no light is shining through, they look almost black, but when the light shines through, they shine a deep crimson. Take a look—

Looks pretty good, when you get a strong enough light behind it. I went the clear red over silver route on mine.
I've found that Polly Scale Conrail Blue is a near exact match to the blue paint used on Magnus. It's maybe half a shade off. Its a very close match to his blue plastic.

I almost went that route as well, but I like light piping too much so I had to try, and it worked. The blue I used is Tamiya Sky Blue, I added a touch of silver to make it slightly metallic; it also greyed the color a bit so it matches the rest of the blue. The blue on the trailer I am making is going to be pure Sky Blue.

Thought I'd chuck up a couple of shots of the work I've done on Starscream. Nothing major done, basically I painted the wheels and tried to make some of the surfaces look more coherent. For instance it bugged me how the tabs on the wheel parts were left grey when most of the rest of his chest was red, as well as the inside parts of the chest and crotch, so I repainted them red to match up with the rest of it. Oh, and I also decided to paint his thighs dark grey. I thought there was too much of the light grey, so a darker colour would add some visual interest, but black, I figured, would be too dark.
The jet mode has been given a black wash, by coating the surfaces with ink, letting them mostly dry, then buffing it back off with a tissue.
I moved the rubsign from the wing to the left air intake (I thought it looked a little unstable on the wing, and likely to peel off the curved surface), where I think it looks more natural. In robot mode, he's been given a proper Decepticon insignia on his shoulder. That way it's clear what side he's on in robot mode, but in jet mode he can hide it until he's ready.
I also painted the ear vents and surrounding area in grey. Not only does that better evoke the G1 toy (where the vents were part of the nose section, and so matched the main hull in colour), but it also means that in jet mode you don't have the unsightly black lump beneath the cockpit.
I still may make a couple of other mods, like painting the tail rudders blue and the backs of the arms grey.

I did not black out his headlight covers, I just removed the blue paint. I painted the area inside them black, then painted the headlights silver, and the blinkers amber. But, they're hard to see, even in person. Still thinking about painting his rims red.
Every bot should have a proper insignia.
Hmmm, that repaint...the classics BB/CJ mold seems right for smokescreen and silverstreak.

Ramrider is correct. The transformations of BB abd Cliffjumper is radically different than Smokescreen, Bluestreak, and Prowl. The only figure currently out that does resemble them is the Cybertron Crosswise/Smokescreen mold, though it looks more like Jazz to me.

Actually, other than Megatron and, maybe Grimlock, yes, they are. The designs are updates of the original G1 designs. The Classics Bumblebee and Cliffjumper have the same basic transformation as their G1 counterparts, with only minor modification. The front ends still form the feet, the roof still forms the torso. With Smokescreen, Bluestreak, and Prowl, the front end formed the chest, and the back end formed the feet. That is a completely different transformation and appearance.

I first need to try repainting techniques on my knockoffs to see what works best.
Yesterday (that would be April 2) i tried the marker trick* described in the first page of this topic.it works amazing for armada starscreams wings.
*(i think i'll just call it a marker wash)

Hi guys, been looking around here for a couple weeks and finally decided to join up. I'm new to the kitbashing scene and have afew ideas. One project I'm considering after seeing the 2 Sideswipe makeovers of classics Rodimus is making 1 for myself and then doing another one over as Red Alert. I'm not really sure how to go about placing the light bar on the roof of the car, so as not to interfer with the "wing" that folds up on the back in robot mode, and also decals. Where to find decals that could pass for Red Alert?
Any suggestions are always welcome!

"Megatron, is that you?!!"
