Transformers Animated: Opinions?

Postby Siren Prime » Wed Nov 14, 2007 7:47 pm

I wanted to know what everyone thinks about it.
Personally, I hate it already... Mostly because of the stupid cartooning design.
Deformed much?

I did find one interesting fact however.

Apparently, SpongeBob SquarePants' voice actor, Tom Kenny, is going to be doing the voice of Starscream in Transformers Animated.

As a toy collector who realy doesn't follow the show or comics, I hate it!

It's a major step down for the franchise. As a subline for kids, cool, but for people into mecha... :?

Yeah.
People complain about how kidish the cartoons are now...
This is about as low as it gets... :?

I'm reasonably excited about it. I'll probably skip over the episodes that focus on the human villains as I only really watch Transformers for the Decepticons. Though I'm not too hot on the idea of Starscream sounding like Gollum it's not going to put me off.

I think this new art style is healthy for the franchise. Everybody was complaining after they saw the teaser trailer for the new transformers movie, they were like "this sucks" or "they ruined my childhood". well they stoped complaining when the movie came out so i think they will stop when the cartoon comes out.

I stoped watching the shows around Armada, and I don't think that's about to change.
It seems, however, that some of the toys might be worth looking at.

I've looked at pics of the toys.
I've looked at pics of the animation models.
I've watched the little videos that have been released.

And i'm trying, i'm really trying, but I just can't bring myself to like the out of proportion bodies.

But i'm going to give it a go and maybe, just maybe, once I see the final product I might find myself liking it.

As Liege said, it's not exactly a line for fans of mecha.

I'm trying to keep an open mind.

For one thing, though the animation and toy designs are really kiddish, I have a feeling that the writing will be less kiddish than what we've had for the past four series. I get the impression that Car Robots and the Unicron Trilogy were decent stories in Japan, but when translated it always seems to lose something.

As far as the toys are concerned, it's hit and miss. They look very different from any TF in my collection, but then my movie TFs look very different from any TF in my collection, my Beast Wars TFs look very different from any TF in my collection, etc. I've gotten to the point where I kind of like the variety, so I'm not too worried about them sticking out too much. I'm figuring to get any original characters that appear (e.g. Lockdown), and any old ones that are actually better than previous incarnations (e.g. Black Arachnia and Blitzwing). Not planning on Optimus Prime, Soundwave, Grimlock, etc., though I might get Bumblebee for my wife's desk.

Haven't liked a TF series since RID, so I'm not holding out much hope, and I really don't like the aesthetic style they're going with. On the other hand, the voice cast reported so far is promising, and I didn't like aesthetics of Star Wars: Clone Wars, but the stories were good enough to compensate, so... who knows? Might be good, might not.

As for the toys, as with every TF line since it began, I'll buy some stuff, regret missing some stuff, and really not bother with a fair bit.

I like TF: Animated. When I saw the poster for first time I said myself "Awful!" but when I saw those clips they were fantastic! I have nothing against the cartoony designs...

QFT.

After watching Clone Wars for a few minutes, I didn't even notice the animation style any more.

I don't know if it's a matter of getting used to it, or a matter of automatically seeing it in your mind differently, but I loved that series in spite of being a sort of animation/art snob.

I was one of those guys that complained about the movie designs for the TF's. Strangely, these ones don't bother me. I think it's good to get back to the kid roots of the TF's. All us original G1 fans are going to be dying off soon, so there needs to be a new generation of fans. Personally I don't think the recent movie is strong enough to grow the franchise with todays kids.

Plus stupid Bumblebee looks better than ever. :P

Interesting thoughts that everyone has.
Hmmm... I think I will check the series out. Being a TF nut, I kinda have to...
But I'm still really disappointed with the asthetics.

I'm really itching to hear Tom Kenny doing Starscream.
I think it's interesting how these people who voice really silly characters voice really tough characters later.
Kinda like how movie Ironhide is played by Jess Harnell who also voices Wakko Warner and Crash Bandicoot and Spyro in various games.

Chalk me up as someone else who's not really sold on the animation.

But, my main interest in TV shows is characterization and plot, so as long as those two things are good I'm not fussed about it.

The VA does sound pretty good to my ears... in particular, Starscream sounds like a less screechy take on Latta's original Starscream, and I like Megatron's quiet menace.

And the theme song simply is awesome. All-in-all, I am looking forward to seeing how this series goes (if I can glom the episodes off someone... sigh, no cable TV).

I remember watching Animaniacs when I was little (3,4,5) and I have resently picked up the seires on DVD, and even then I didn't notice this.

The Animated has not created a big impact on me. Although i can't dismiss it outright.

Lately, i've been finding the toys to be pretty interesting. Particularly the way they transform. I may not fully realized their transformations sequences yet. But already, i see some bots, such as Prowl being the best bike-bot to date, to be quite impressive.
