Transformers listed from best to worst by series

Postby Saber Prime » Wed Mar 19, 2008 11:49 pm

This topic does not protain to toy lines, this is to look at Transformers as a series/movie.

Beast Wars: Has been and might probably allways will be the most well wrighten series of Transformers.

Beast Machines: Still a good series but not as good as it's predisessor. Alot of questions about the gap between the two beast series were still left unanswered at the end.

RID: This series was allso really well wrighten but the animation was kinda cheesy and they had too many characters to keep track of. Not to mention the leaders on both sides seemed exstreamly lazy.

Animated: The series is kinda touch and go for me but I'm mostly liking the series. Animated's position on this list may change continuasly but for now this seems like a good place for it.

Cybertron: It looked like an entirely new series to me not a continuation of Energon. In Japan the seires Galaxy Force really wasn't a continuation of Superlink. Despite the differences between the English dub from the original version it still came out as an OK series.

Energon: Was a continuation of Armada and it's really clear of that fact. That's the only reason this series was placed below Cybertron. Energon could of been much better if it droped all conections with Armada. By itself, it's not a bad series at all.

G1: It started the whole TF universe but the series as a whole had too many inconsistant storys throught the episodes, giving some characters multiple origins and others having no origin at all. The series allso had WAY too many characters to keep track of.

Movie: Weather you agree or not I feel like the movie didn't show enough of the Transformers for it to really even be considered for this list. However it did show more of them than the first episode of Armada so despite my better judgement I'll give the movie the benifit of the doubt and hope the sequill will be better.

Armada: Bottom of the list, G1 is so far down because of it's inconsistant character origins and other storys. Armada is down here for the same thing with the added crappieness of having an Autobot leader who doesn't seem to know his troops names half the time. They never made it through a single episode without Optimus calling someone by the wrong name. That added to the fact the series really blurred the line between good and evil. By the end of it I belived Galvatron to have died a heroes death, he sacrificed himself to stop Unicron, something I think Optimus should have done not Galvatron. The Autobots constantly said how the Desepticons wanted to use the Mini-cons as slaves and they wanted them to be free but their actions didn't seem any different from the Decepticons.

If I was to list based on how good the animation was...

Movie
Beast Machines
Beast Wars
G1
Armada
RID
Animated
Energon/Cybertron

Energon Cybertron are tied and in last place because I don't like the look of the "blended" CGI and triditional hand drawn animation in the series. If they went all CGI the two would have beet out Beast Machines. If they went all hand drawn it'd be tied with Armada.

Beast Machines is obviously placed above Beast Wars because the CGI was fairly crappy at the start of Beast Wars and didn't get really good till the end of the series. You can watch the progression in CGI technoligy by watching Beast Wars/Machines. Everything is really choppy and clips at the start and then runs nice and smooth later on.

Movie made it to the top because the animation does look ok in the real world but the same animation could have been used on more triditional designs. Or at least designs that don't all look alike from a distance making it nearly impossible to follow any of the battle scenes.

Okay:

Beast Wars: Good story, entertaining, fun to watch for all ages. Even my g/f got into watching this.

G1: It started it all, and whether you like it or dislike it, you have to admit that it had some pretty good stories and had interesting characters that stick with ya.

Animated: G1 told with a more humorous, updated style.

Movie: Wonderful eye candy

Beast Machines: Good writing, but frustrating as to how the characters were handled.

RID: A lesser form of animated. It had humor, but it wasn't as "in touch" with the audience due to translation.

Energon/Cyberton: Haven't been able to finish either series, they both are animes that couldn't hold my attention.

Armada: the anime that started the "Unicron saga." I stuck with it for over 20 episodes hoping it would get better. It never did.

Motto: "I don't lose, I CONQUER!"
Weapon: Electro-Sword
1) Beast Wars-Well written and with great characters and a lot of new concepts.

2) Beast Machines-Thought provoking and very well written series the
closest to the Transformers a pure sci-fi show and not just being a
kids' toy show.

3)G1 and Transformers: The Movie (1986)-The one that started it all.
Yeah there are a lot of bad episodes but there also some good episodes. The movie has the greatest Transformers fight in it the battle to the death between Optimus Prime and Megatron.

4) Cybertron-A great series that if you give it a chance it will keep you coming back for more, plus the final battle between Optimus Prime and Galvatron is the second best battle in TF history IMO.

5) Energon-A lot of people knock this show but I think it's better than Animated, Kicker is the only human in the last 5 series that isn't annoying as hell. I liked the concept that when Kicker first met the Autobots he's scared to death of them. In 20 years it never
occured to me that a kid could be affraid of optimus Prime. Plus plenty of doublecrosses and twists and turns that make this series
better than most make it out to be.

6) Armada-Once this series got away from being the Transformers' version of Pokemon, and Unicron entered the series it became a whole new show, it was also fun to see the G1 cameos.

7) Live action Movie-To me it was just mindless fun but hearing Peter
Cullen as Optimus Prime at the start of it sent chills up my spin in
the theather.

8.) Masterforce-This is by far one of the weirdest TF series because the God/Powermasters and Headmasters Juniors seem more like Gundams
but the animation is top notch.

9) Headmasters-This is better than "The Rebirth" 3 parter but some of
the deaths are extremely lame.

10) Victory-For everyone who complains about the long sences in Cybertron of the Autobots Transforming see Victory it's just as bad
if not worse.

11) Beast Wars Neo- An imporvement over BWII. Big Convoy is a loner
you has to become a leader of a group misfits chasing energy capsols
over the galaxy.

12) Beast wars II-a quickly prodcued series and it showed the animation is not very good, but it's funnier than R.I.D.

13) Scramble City-This is like the 8th version of Dr. Who it's a quick
glimpse of what might have been.

14) Zone-Like Scramble City this only shows what might have been it
did have some great animation.

15) Animated-Wacky designs and the Autobots as super-heroes it has way to many fan-wanks and the human are the most annoying in TF series
especally Sari. The supervillians are equally lame. The Decepticons are what keeps this series from going down the crapper.

16) R.I.D.-Stupid characters and stupid jokes with weak leaders and too many Autobots who can't shoot worth a damn and only appeared once or twice. It has the two most annoying Transformers of all time Sideburn and Sky-Bite in almost every episode. I would rather watch a
Wheelie marathon than see those two morons in any TF series again.

I'm reading this thread, having seen little of these other shows. Just a few expectations-

Beast Wars- Not too bad, because of the visual effects and animation. A completely Transorganic Transformer universe doesn't interest me much, though, unless I've seen every single G1 episode.

Beast Machines- Maybe a good thing that it's so dark, but it seems a little too dark for comfort. Even the visuals are dark! Hopefully it's no soap opera.

Robots In Disguise- I don't like the look of the sketches. Hopefully they won't make the Transformers like another Force Five or Robotech or Magnos- that would be dreadful.

Unicron Trilogy- They just did, it seems. Maybe a whole lot of characters, interesting new concepts, but the few episodes of Armada I watched were too much in the mould described above.

Animated- Back to the United States, so I'd expect something more like the Transformers we love, but I'd prefer to watch before commenting. The Teen Titans style is a bit of a turn-off, though they seem to be keen on something more organic than G1.

Here's my list, such as it is:

Beast Wars- There is no doubt in my mind that this was the best written TF series ever! It was witty and fun, and it saved the entire idea from total Pyro damnation. The toys were atrocious, IMHO.

Animated- Thus far, I have been thrilled with the story and the voice acting! Animated Megatron is the best incarnation SINCE Beast Wars! This may fall down the list as the seasons progress, but I am happy thus far!

G1- Sentimentality. The very idea of the toy was ahead of it's time and endlessly fascinating, even to this day! The show, with it's writing issues and grievious animation errors, is still the bee's knees to me!

Armada- Not tops, since the dub-over is horrific! It has it's decent moments! I have a spot in my black heart for Armada Starscream...guess it's the inner girlie in me! :)

Beast Machines- I am not into tree-hugging myself, why should I expect Transformers to be into it??? Pure drek! So hard for me to tolerate this series, coming on the heels of the BEST TF series and into...THIS! *gags*

The rest of the Japanese Transformers' series- Anime is crap. Dubbed-into-English anime is crappier crap. And at the bottom of this sub-list is HeadMasters.....Speaking of ATROCIOUS english-dubs!!
