Transformers Opens at Number 2 at the U.K. Box Office
This past weekend the Transformers Movie premiered in the United Kingdom. Though the film did not take the number one slot in the U.K. box office, it came in at a strong second to the Simpson's Movie which opened three days before Transformers. The Transformers Movie pulled in $7.2 Million over the weekend.

Not doing too badly, considerin the apparent 'lack of love' for transformers everyone seems to think happens here in the UK.

You might want to correct that figure, I noticed that I missed the 1 of from the US dollar rate. The movie took £8.1 million which by the current exchange rate is about £17.2 million, not 7 million that I typed this morning. Also, you might be interest in our report that Transformers has now passed the $500 million gross now. Transformers also took £3 million ($6 million US) over the preview weekend.

not surprised. if its got the backing that it got in ireland then it got feck all coverage by the media which seems to be obsessed by the simpsons, which is crap by the way. ok the first 35 min or so are funny but it goes way downhill after that and doesnt justtify the overload thats been heaped on it in the cinema reviews sections. no one in the media seem to get transformers and as such have pretty much ignored it
i reckon transformers will be an exapmle of a movie taking the top slot AFTER its been released. once word of mouth about the simpsons gets around que the best film of the summer to take the top spot. mainly because everyone thats seen transformers comes out thinking "i cant belive if **** saw that. how the hell did they do those things?"
seriously. what transformers has going for it is repeat viewing. your just not going to see something like it again this year whereas the simpsons can be seen every day on sky for hours on end.

yeah u can't help but notice the lack of promotion for TF in the UK. sure there's been posters and the occasional teaser on TV but thats it. the whole frickin' world has been obsessed with the Simpson movie. I saw it on opening day at BW and the line for the S movie was huge, the screen for TF was under half filled (which i thought made for great viewing, personally). so yeah i agree, once the Simpsons move out of the lime light then TF will alot more popular. can't wait for a sequel. oh just a side note.....it is BRAWL right? not the name Devastator that i saw in the movie sub-title?

Probably because the Simpsons has been a household name since it's first episode.
As much as I hate to admit it, Simpsons IS the more popular franchise, and has been for almost 20 years now.

I haven't seen the simpsons movie yet, but as far as we're concerned, the Transformers movie is still the main movie topic around my area.
And a lot of people on forums (not just here, duh
) have seen the movie at least twice. The interest hasn't died out yet, but I can see Simpsons doing some damage to the momentum Transformers has.

The Press
Also the press have been bias towards the simpsons, while I doubt the Simpsons broke new ground with plot development deep story, it got good reviews. While Transformers in men magazines got good reviews but in general media, got poor reviews. It really annoyed me especially when everyone that I seen it really enjoyed the movie and the women who watched it liked it to.
Well $500 million is not a bad figure considering the cost of the movie. hopefully the film will make more through the summer holdiays im hoping fro transformers to break the $600 million (worldwide) mark doubt it will break the $700. Also Transformers seems to be one of the few films with no sequels heading into the top 20 worldwide receipting movies.
And all that with a lot of negative press, well done. I wanna say good job Michael Bay, you revived my childhood!!!!!

Wow that's good to hear. Around $500 mil now, hopefully that does more than just guaranty a sequel.

From ToplessRobot.com:• "Watching Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is marginally better than sh***ing your pants, but it takes a lot longer." Very well put.

I say it all the time... UK is thick and I'm often ashamed to be a part of it
I saw the Simpsons Movie.. wasn't as good as Transformers by a long shot. It was a, special edition, feature length episode really. Had funny moments but nothing more.
I'll try and go see Transformers as much as I possibly can!

Not at all surprising that the Simpsons beat it to #1, but 8 million pounds is still a very good intake for a week.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

Also, comparing the current box office gross, $17m (+ $6m from previews), we have already done better than Australia and are pretty much half way to South Korea's total. See Paramount and Hasbro, there is a fan base in the UK. Now stop delaying everything!

Simply awesome news. Everything has come up roses with the film and all the nay sayers have been pretty much silenced. Here's hoping that Hasbro UK can ride this wave by bringing enough stock to fill the shelves at Argos and the like.
