Transformers that don't transform. Why?

Postby Transtopias Rodimus Prime » Mon Apr 16, 2007 9:56 pm

It's nice to have different versions of our favorite Transformers whether they be G1 or Beast Wars, but I just can't see spending money on Non-Transformers. If there is no Transformable version of a character I can understand buying a statue for your collection. I have one of Unicron from before the toy came out. When it comes down to it this is how I feel.

Personally, I won't be wasting any money on that non-transforming crap.

I find I agree with you mostly, I mean there are really stupid non-transforming transformers like action masters and energon Kicker US version. But I think when a great job is done on one like Alpha-Q, I feel it is totally worth it.

considering the sometimes shoddy joints and articulation of some figures, sometimes a statue is better, especially if one just wants something to stand on a shelf (damn alt grimlock's floppy arm) as an out of box display piece rather than for want of a better word, a toy.

I like toys. Statues are for people who prefer art over games. The only non-transforming TransFormers I have are Spectro and Spy Glass (Reflector robots missing the middle one) and one action master I picked up a Goodwill. They still serve as toys, but are mainly cannon-fodder. My TFs are not in mint condition because I play with them, but they are 95% complete! (except second-hand ones)

Yeah I don't like statues. They do look really cool, especially the Star Wars and Transformers Unleashed Statues I've seen. (and by cool I mean the detail on them is just great.) I've just never liked the poses they're stuck in. I'd prefer being able to pose my figures myself or not at all. (Mostly not at all due to balance issues.)

I don't buy any of them myself but there are people that like statues of their favourite characters so, given that we have such a broad fandom with eclectic tastes, it's good that TF can cater to so many markets. I suppose this is part of what makes Transformers such an interesting and enduring brand.

But Alpha Q wasn't a TF and was never meant to transform anyway so he doesn't really count.

Personally, I think i've voiced my opinion enough over the years to say that I really really really despise non-transforming stuff.

I like my TF's that when they're on display I can pick them up, transform them, play with them, then put them back. Statues, pvc's, 3 inch titaniums, they just sit there doing nothing. You can't play with them.

I collect to admire and play. Not just to admire. Non-transforming stuff serves no purpose to me regardless of how well it looks.

I don't care for the non-transformer figures either. I remember the Action Masters when I was a teenager. Wrestling Figures and GI Joes were popular during that year and it seemed like the Action Masters were designed to compete with them for a market niche.

I think Action Masters got more of a bad rap than they deserved. Over all, the figures were really well done, some even really did a good job of capturing the composite likeness of their toy and cartoon selves.

Actually, I realise more than ever why the non transforming toys are useful to me. They make great "mannequins" for drawing. Admittedly they do not have a whole lot of articulation, but they do serve a purpose from an artists POV.

right now I have megatron scattered across my desk.

I didn't care for the ActionMaster either. The idea of Transformers is for them to...well, transform. If I had the money I'd get my hands on 5 of the Quintessons that have recently seen production. And I'm not talking about the Energon or Cybertron Quintesson either. I'm talking about the adaptation of the original G1 Quintesson.

By and large I think Transformers collectibles that don't transform are kinda pointless, although every once in a while they have their benefits - like, as stated above, providing characters that wouldn't otherwise have gotten made (like SCF Alpha Trion), or offering decent drawing references for G1 characters (like Revoltech Megatron).

Because most of the time, Transformers that don't transform are way better for posing.

Such as Revoltech, but there was also that other Japanese series from a few years back, that I can't remember the name of.

Transformers that don't transform aren't really that bad. If it weren't for the HOC line, we wouldn't even have a G1 Arcee at all. Granted, there is BotCon & Energon Arcee, but it' no G1 by any means. And some non-transformable figures are more accurate than the actual transforming figure. I don't really have a problem w/PVC's, Titaniums, or Heroes. I like 'em all.

Your opinion is what exactly? They sucked so bad you can't even remember them?

Alpha Q, in my opinion, blew. In cartoon and toy form. Not only does he not transform, but Quint is 5... A 5 headed Transformer with only 3 heads that doesn't transform. Sad. I like the new one though Movie accurate and all.

No, they actually looked extremely cool. If I money at the time (They were relatively inexpensive) I would've definitely picked them up.

Well for the most part non transforming Transformers arn't really worth it but there are a few exceptions for instance I like the 3inch Pvc they go good with my Gestalts along with the minicons. The Robotech Prime and Megatron are worth owning as far as I am concerned other than these exceptions they are not really worth getting.

Well I like some untransformable transformers.....

Postby Mighty Scorponok » Wed Apr 18, 2007 2:22 pm

Statues, like Megatron, Soundwave, Shockwave, etc I would definitelly buy, for beeing a die hard Decepticon. And Alpha Q is definitelly one of the Transformers line untransformerable that I would buy. So its really up to people who would buy or who wouldnt buy an item.Likes or dislikes, we all know that opinion is like an a$$hole, everybody has one.By the way, this was Mighty Scorponok. OUT.
