HIGHLIGHT SPOILERS TO READ

I'm a pretty big TRON fan and this is my first time using the spoiler add-on so here we go.
The character Tron has been absent in all trailers for TRON Legacy and TRON EVOLUTION except I managed to cut a screenshot from E3. For one split second Tron is revealed!!!
Also a preview from the Marvel comic (Disney bought Marvel for those of you who been living under a rock) seems to confirm it is Tron. observe

So here is the spoiler... Rinzler is Tron

In case you don't know Rinzler is CLU's (main villain in TRON legacy) right hand man. CLU got derezzed by the Master Control Program, Kevin Flynn re-rezzed him and he apparently went evil. Here is a pic of Rinzler

notice the similar T-shaped cube on the chest, same armor, and Rinzler's head covered!!!

Okay Rinzler has two identity discs so two identities Also two wands, basically he's got two of everything!!! Think now!! its obvious!!!

Notice the SAME T-shaped chest piece!!!

Sort of. The villain is CLU 2, a newer version of the original CLU. He wasn't re-rezzed so much as a newer, more advanced version was programmed. And then went evil.

Also, Bruce Boxleitner is supposed to be playing Tron just like the first movie.

I knew Bruce Boxleitner is playing Tron and Jeff Bridges is playing CLU-2 and Kevin Flynn, but just look at CLU-2

Don't they look so similar.... anyway the point I'm trying to make is that Bruce could look young like he did in the first film with a little hair dye, make-up and CGI. Besides look at classic Tron



Now look at the image below.



They look similar with the same T-shaped cubes, and they both have Bruce's face. Plus the Marvel comic seems to confirm this is Tron.

I figured they were going to do that. I mean, it's been 28 years since the first movie, they kind of have to.

I hate to say this but he's in the movie trailer and you can see him quite clearly.

I hope this isn't as boring as the first one no matter how cool it looked.

Tron has always been bar-none one of my all-time favorite movies, so much to the point where I can not only recite the entire script in decent approximation of the actor's voices but could hum the entire musical score (including Journey's "Only Solutions") for ya note for note. I love that damn movie.

With this being the case, one would think that the long awaited sequel would be a bladder-releasing, hyperventilating with excitement kind of event for me.

Unfortunately, I'm not getting excited by what I'm seeing.

Tron 2.0 Killer App for the XBox was in my opinion an awesome experience, and when you get right down to it should have been the canon sequel. The overall aesthetic was spot on with the original yet with a subtle modern twist. It was quite clearly the Tron world populated by programs just like in the original, and the story involving Jet Bradley was very well done-it could have been used for the new movie. The game was very faithful to its origins.

The design of the new Tron Legacy world frankly sucks IMHO. It lacks that "video game world" feeling. The characters are dressed in boring black body suits with a token glowing streak or dot here and there rather than glittering with circuitry, which leaves them all very stark and nearly identical, a problem not made any better by the fact that the "hockey player style" partial helmets have been replaced by the omnipresent black motorcycle helmets.

The world itself from what little I've seen is dark, foggy, and uninspiring. The story seems to be almost a modern rehash of the original, only CLU is the bad guy this time, rather than the MCP.

As a result of the dull outfit design, the characters do not translate well into toy form. Let's face it, the figures all look nearly identical-dull matte black and BORING.

I'm hoping to heck that when I finally see the movie I will be awe-stricken and mightily impressed by how awesome it might be, but all the same, I'm thinking that they gave the project to the absolute wrong folks, and crashing, derezzing disappointment looms on the horizon.

Time will tell....

I was too young and it was way too long ago for me to even remember much about it. I might watch it again so that I can understand more of the new movie. It has just been too long since I watched it. I was 6-7 years old when it was released, so I was a bit young to really dig deeper than the pretty colors and lights.

Rinzler can be seen in the trailer but not Tron. Unless you have watched a new one I haven't seen yet...

Maybe, you see the badguy who looks like the dudes father and then later you see Tron as in what we see in that comic page.

Kid, no offense, but the point of my post was that I haven't watched the movie since about a decade before to were alive......so, yes I have an excuse. Also, as stated by Dead Metal, it isn't the most gripping movie in the history of cinema.

Sorry to tell you guys, but if the plot of Tron: Evolution is to be taken as cannonical, which apparently it is, then Tron himself is apparently derezzed whilst saving Flynn from Clu 2.0's guards. Now, you never actually see it happen, but Quorra apparently did, and whilst you encounter Flynn later on in the game, you never see Tron again.
It seems like the titular character of the Tron universe is gone, plus, we have only seen him in trailers for the game, there is no movie footage of him, as of yet which would seemingly back up the case that he is indeed derezzed in the game and didn't somehow survive. I hope I am wrong, but it doesn't look good.
Although, having said that, considering it was Clu's guards that supposedly derezz him in the game, then maybe they didn't. They could have just captured him and then maybe Clu reprogrammed him, hence the existence of the evidence given earlier in this thread...

Yeah, that's what I just wrote when I edited my post. i had a brainwave and realized that possibility, sorry . But yeah, that would definitely be interesting.

Based on what I've seen I keep getting more and more excited, at first I was on the fence but seeing all this merchandise (aside from the sucky 3 inch figs) has just pumped me up for some reason.

I would have to say that TRON isn't the most gripping movie in cinema history either, but it was one of the first pioneers into the then-mysterious realm of CGI and because of the great effects (of that time) It is still a marvel at least to me.

I would have to say that TRON isn't the most gripping movie in cinema history either, but it was one of the first pioneers into the then-mysterious realm of CGI and because of the great effects (of that time) It is still a marvel at least to me.

I'm pretty sure TRON didn't have any actual CGI, and only filmed and painted everything to "look like" CGI.

Nope I was half right, apparently the movie contains about 20 minutes of actual CGI, which is used only for scenes depicting only the vehicles, the rest is costumes, filming and painting.

I NEVER heard any one talk about Tron ever. I still haven't heard ANYONE talk about it except for people on this site. I never knew about it until I saw a trailer on the VGAs last year, and I only heard that there was an old movie about 3 months ago.

Well, what do you know. Rinzler actually IS Tron. Well, there was at least some room for doubt, for example, the movie had not been released and the only clue was the symbol on Rinzler's chest.

Just finished watching it. The effects were wonderful, but the plot is very.... bland. Still a decent movie to watch, though.

Kept it in mind the entire time.

The ending was predictable. The CGI was excellent though. it's safe to say a third film may yet be made.

They are making an Animated series... much like how Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie led to the animated series with the same name.

Was the DoTM trailer in front of it?

When i saw the film, it wasn't. Did have the POTC: On Stranger Tides trailer though.
