Is this just the army or all of the U.S. armed forces?

Army - Decepticons will probably win

Armed Forces - We win.

Starscream took out those jets with impunity. By that standard of power the Decepticon armada would massacre any earth army.

Then we win. Starscream only did good in the movie because A) the Air Force was surprised and B) It was only a small fraction of the Air Force.

No, this Screamer can just keep coming back from his spark being extinguished. A nuke will make sure the allspark has nothing to ressurect.

As individuals the cons are fairly strong but there aren't a whole lot of them. A few well placed missles would mess them up pretty bad, plus an EMP would be like cyanide to us...

Said nuke would also kill any humans in the vicinity too. So kind of a moot point.

Step 1: Clear every soldier from the area (Takes maybe an hour)

Step 2: Launch Nuke

Step 3: Lunch

Step 4: Finish the rest of the Decepticons

You forgot 'Steal Underpants' and 'Profit' in there.

On a less mocking side. I think it'd all boil down to situation. Were the US military surprised, example being the movie (yes, I know we're talking animated, but still)? Then the Cons would have a significant advantage before something was ironed out to discover just how to distinguish friend from disguised foe. The question would be whether or not the Cons would be able to take out those in command by then, and assuming Megatron's directly leading them...yeah. We're in trouble.

Military has time to go 'oshi we have a srs threat on our hands'? I'm pretty sure they could get their act together and kick some aft.

Friend: The person with the gun, made of meat, on average about 6' tall.

Foe: The hostile robot, on average about twenty feet tall.

Like they said in Doom: "If it's trying to kill you, it's hostile."

Okay, if it turns into a robot and tries to kill you, it's hostile. However, if it does not turn into a robot, but is still trying to kill you, it's hostile. If it doesn't turn into a robot, but only because it already is one, and is trying to kill you, it's hostile.

But if it's any of the above, yet doesn't try to kill you, it's not hostile.

Point made. :) My mental image remains them sneaking in their vehicle/alt modes, not necessarily firing until part of the Master Plan involves blowing sh* up.

Your overestimating EMPs Transformers are designed for space which means they'd have to be radiation hardened. Even modern militray equipment is EMP resistant to a degree.

No it would take days to evacuate that many people, Especially is they were panicking.

You remember the matrix? About how the super-advanced machines (More so than Transformers, by a very wide margin) would be immediately wiped out when confronted with an EMP pulse?

Soldier. Soldier. But now that I'm reminded of EMP pulses, a direct nuclear assault would be unnecessary, even overkill. An atmoshperic detonation would still be able to not only hit the enemy machines, but also avoid any direct damage to people below.

Ahh yes I had forgotten how scientificaly accurate matrix movies were. The science in the films are appalling. Fine then we're using fictional examples: in Gundam Seed Zafts Ginn mobile suits were uneffected by an emp weapon due to being designed for space combat but the Strike Daggers who were only configured ground use at that time were disabled.

Its been shown that thick metal armour is very good defence for EMPs. Hence why in the Iraq war Jouranlists used microwave ovens to protect their cameras in case The coalition used EMPs.

Transformers can function in space which is saturated in eltromagentic radiation yet they're fine.

Nothing shows the Matrix squids were above Cybertronian technology, they could hover and had claws. They could be taken down using conventional weaponry from a fighting force with low resources.

Cosmic Radiation is not the same thing as an EMP and it doesn't look like the animated guys can handle cosmic radiation like their movie counterparts. The animated guys need spaceships and Megatron was only outside when they weren't near stars that would cause solar radiation problems.

Real EMPs are quite devastating and aren't too complicated to pull off. They're invisible and everythign electronic is shot-to-hell.

artoni wrote:May I point out the whole 'robots in disguise' bit?

May I point out that the military would realize that a jet with decepticon insignia, a PURPLE plane with decepticon insignia, a jet with tank treads or a tank with jet parts with yet again decepticon insignia and all the other cons who look nothing like real military craft, missing serial numbers and won't respond to radio calls will not last ten seconds in U.S. airspace.

As soon as the Raptors come out, the skys will be cleared. And when we pull out our anti-vehicle weaponary, the rest of the con's are boned.

These are the silly cartoon cons. They wouldn't make it through the first round with real military forces.

They had enslaved humanity in a hyper-realistic virtual-reality prison, and used them as a power source.
