Love the metallic finish on him.

Did you take him apart, or just paint him as he stands?
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

Definately go for it! But be sure to experiment on a junk toy before working on your Transformers.

As for materials, my stuff didnt cost that much. I didnt spend that much more than 5-6 bucks on all my materials.

Good luck!

Yea, i just finished painting him, and just put the pieces back together. I coated the exterior of the Alt mode with silver, so it does look nice and shiny... but the paint seems to chip off very easily. So as soon as I get some protective coating on there, i will post the pics. I planning on going to Hobby Lobby or Michaels to get some tomorrow.

wow. he looks great. i have been thinking about doing this to a few in my collection but have never attempted it before. i was wondering how much difficulty you had taking him apart and putting him back together. also, did you mask off the windshield and windows?

Well, taking him apart wasnt that hard... just unscrew the screws on his legs, do the legs seperately, then work on the upper body as a whole.

Now, putting him back together - thats a hold different story. I had to be really careful not to damage the paint work, because i havent applied a protective coating on him yet. But after a while yea i got it.

Mask off the windshield and windows? Im not sure what you mean by that.

how did you apply the paint? spray paint/airbrush? if you sprayed the paint on how did you avoid getting paint all over the windshield and side windows, headlights, tail lights etc. i thought maybe you used masking tape to to "mask" off the areas you didn't want to get paint on. thanks for your help so far!

paintbrushed. but i must say, doing the exterior of the car was insanely... insane. i should have coated it white, and then applied the silver... but i just applied to silver. so the finished protect is with like 10 coats of silver on the hood/doors/etc O_O

Im ysing Krylon Kamar Finish spray. I didnt know which to get between kamar, matte, or glossy... so i just picked one. Hoping i wouldnt regret it. May i ask what you used on your Ratchet as a finish?

Well i had mixed results, as many of the tightest joints still had paint chipping problems, but over the rest of the fig it seemed to work fine, and all i used was a brush-on matte varnish.

For the joints problem i applied a tiny bit of superglue to the surface i wanted to paint that i knew would rub, then painted it, then applied a bit more superglue. It worked like a charm and is hard as hell now and no chipping. You just gotta be careful not to glue your joints shut!
