Vaguely remembered ,long lost, cool toy thread.

Postby Liege Evilmus » Wed May 07, 2008 9:05 pm

Alright, so the 80's had more toy properties than probably any other decade in history.

Those who remember, Capsella, Construx, Robotix, Captian Power, COPS, Wheeled Warriors, Air Raiders, MASK, GhostBusters(both lines), Centurions, SilverHawks, My Pet Monster, Illuminaries Webbol Wobbles, Mad Balls and all the other crap they blantently figured we'd buy....

One name series has been eating at me for about 20 mins and I can't take it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They where some space age guys with magnets in their feet about half the size of a GIJoe. The whole gimmic with the magnets was supose to simulate 0G in space letting these guys stick to anything.

I only had 2 of the figures, and nothing else, but it was still a cool property, and I'd like to know what they where called.

Ebay confirms it!

TEKKA WINS ON IN THE FIRST ROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

----------------------------------------------

Still, there where a bazzilion 80's properties, and not one of us alone can remember them all. So lets put a twist on this(hence the new title)...

List the past obscure toy line you vaguely remember, and lets see if anothe member can help you name it so you can pour some hard earned cash into the ever endless wells of nostalgia :D

So go on, ask away...

Funny, I just saw some Madballs in TRU last week, newly re-released and already shelf warmers!!

Don't forget about all of the TV shows that had toy lines, like the A-team and Knightrider.
Check out my sales thread, plenty of Generations, and Reveal the Shield figures for sale!!

How dare you not mention Inhumonoids? The most underrated cartoon in the history of awesome.

Anyways, remember that line where they were like all mummies or something because they were wearing robes and their faces were holograms?

I saw those too! They brought back a weird dejavu for me, they actually had the twisted baseball that I remember having when I was younger. The toyline from the 80's that I had more of an obsession than anything though was Battle Beasts. They were all cheap so collecting them was do-able, and I got all of the vehicles in one Christmas haul. I miss my childhood :-(

I probably mispelt that bad, as well as mispelt, but I drink and thats a good enough excuse for that.

I never tried it, but I'm gonna take Rick James word that cocaine is one hell of a drug. Thats the only way I could see something like that getting the green light.

Now, I'm gonna go watch Tekka's StarCom clip :D

Dam I miss great art!

I hate modern companies for being both cheap and lazy. Granted there are some execptions. But back in the day, this was an attempt to TOUCH the standard.

So I say, I miss great art.

Animation seems to be done mostly by Korean slave animators these days unless the show has a big sponsor like Code Geass. You can always tell when the Korean B-Team is animating because the character heads and body proportions changes drastically from scene to scene. It's quite funny, and reminiscent of the rushed out later episodes of Transformers.

dino riders, it was about a group of humans and mutant insent and sea creatures that went back it time and started a war using dinosaurs. the bad guys used things called brainboxes to control the dinosuars on their side where the humans just trained them. the dinosaurs had removable armour ranging from scout walkeds all the way to mobile bases. i had a few and i loved the show but sadly it's all lost to history.

I never had those, but it rings a strong bell. Back in the day if it was animated, I watched it.

The whole retaining end is a different matter.

-------------------------------------------------------------

To Tekka, animation has been outscourced to Korea for as long as I can rmember, and I remember those guys had to draw. Growing up, half my home town was Korean, and I actualy had some friends who's parents worked in those "studios".

The term Slave Labor, is dead on, but on that same note, so are their talents. What they draw on a place mat when we go for coffee is better than 90% of whats out there today.

Still, computers give us cheap cutsie anime, as apose to skilled design.

Yep, the down side of capitolizm, and folks just taking what they get.

I do miss the hand drawn stuff. But my wallet doesn't, because of the sheer value of collectible cells. A single cell of Aki/Star from the opening sequence of Tekkaman Blade cost me $170, but bloody hell was it ever worth it.

I saw the new Madballs at TRU a month back or so, and man, they're the same ones from the 80s. That's cool at least; they didn't try to keep the same name as the old version and just put out stupid new balls. Everyone should have an Occulous Orbus in their home.

Agreed!

And I think we broke a flashback dam on Tekka!?! To bad we can't record him singing these songs while he types them out.

Now, for a treat, heres something increadibly vague...
