What does the words Ultra Magnus mean to you

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

And show me Primus in the cartoon. :-P

Magnus was in a very similar position. One on one face off with Galvatron. In fact, he's in a slightly better position. With the Matrix right in his hands to start with.

Notice that all deserving Autobot leaders must be brave enough to face the Decepticon leader and fight him hand-to-hand combat.

Magnus fails miserably in this criteria. He instantly dug out the Matrix before even trying to land a fist on Galvatron's face.

Emphasis. Not even trying.

(It's probably why the Matrix opened up for Hot Rod, but not for Magnus.)

Primus does not exist. Sorry.

And yes, Magnus has taken a lot of undeserved stick over a couple of lines in the Movie. Hell, the "I can't deal with that now" line was pretty reasonable in context. He can't worry about a ship that's been shot down when the one he's in is still under fire.

Optimus would never have said that kind of line in the face of losing his Autobots friends. He may have offered a witty but useless line or two, such as "Aww, Hot Rod and Kup and the Dinobots." or "Hot Rod would have wanted to go down that way.", but never a cold indifferent "I can't deal with that now."

Don't forget, Ultra Magnus battles Galvatron hand-to-hand several times over the course of Season 3, and doesn't do too badly. Or are we only counting what happens in the movie?

Hehe. Sorry, i've watched only till the Movie. Then i was shipped to Siberia (aka. dormitory) with no tv. :)

Nevertheless, Magnus's heroics were unfortunately too late. The Matrix have already chosen a leader.

But still, it's good for Magnus to finally be catching up.

UM means to me, a character that most fans do not enjoy, but truly is a character that had some very good emotion and acting in the series.

That's one good side of Magnus. His character is very human.

Auto Bot: go watch Season 3, then see how you feel. In the meantime: you're wrong. :-P .

Tekka: I've never liked the whole Unicron/Primus as gods angle that's been increasingly shoe-horned into Transformers. All the shows I really liked as a kid were technology based: TFs, MASK, Centurions. I never got into the magic and mythology stuff like He-Man and Dungeons & Dragons. Throwing mythology into TFs was/is one of the reasons I never liked the comics as much as the cartoon.

I agree.
They're freaking robots. They don't need Gods....

I mean, Unicron and Primus being sorta supreme TFs are fine, but them being Gods, that's another matter.

The only problem here is the cartoon origin of Unicron. I mean, c'mon. This guy created Unicron? And for what purpose? I still don't get it.

Not really a good reason to create a planet-devouring robot that can transform into a moon.

You're looking for good reasons? Ok, apply yourself to these:
1) Why did Megatron not take his Decepticons to another planet, acquire all the energy he needed, THEN declare war on the Autobots?
2) Why did Megatron spend all his time trying to steal energy instead of taking advantage of naturally occurring energy sources (solar, tidal, etc) that no one would notice?
3) Why did any of the Decepticons put up with Galvatron backhanding them all the time?

Sweet reason was not the main force in TF script-writing. Hell, still isn't.

Motto: "I'm grade-A, 100% prime-cut final boss! I'm going to take over the world any day now!"
Weapon: Multi-Function Sword
Speculation: The way I see Unicron's origin in the cartoon is that he was a joint effort of the resources of the Quintesson, and the design and ingenuity of Primacron.

The Quintesson as arms dealers would have been able to offer up a weapon capable of wiping out entire planets to the highest bidder. Or they may have been able to use him against their own enemies. Only somehow, maybe due to the short sightedness of both parties, Unicron proved too much to control and went on his way across the galaxy. Travelling from planet to planet and devouring them to get the energy he needs to keep on living.

i bought unicron yesterday for £13 8)
but he is not a 'god' -in my own mind he and primus have different origins merging storys from the cartoon and comics, i might write it down proply one day

but anyway yeah magic and machines dont mix-
and i have know idea who this guy is that made unicron

I realize that. I was unaware we were listing all of the logical inconsistencies in the cartoon. I was giving you the reason I prefer the comic origin of Unicron, which necessarily involves Primus. The cartoon version is, well, just bad. Nonsensical.

Oh, and maybe Megatron did take advantage of those 'quiet' energy resources. The Decepticons had conquered Cyberton by the time of the movie. Perhaps all those, ah, less-than-well-thought-out schemes we saw were simply to distract the Autobots from noticing what he was doing.

As for Galvatron... apparently they were better off with him than without him. At least they had fuel. That's the best I've got.

No they werent. The Matrix did not open for Hot Rod because of the danger Galvatron repersented but because of Unicron.

Had Ultra Magnus been inside of Unicron when he confronted Galvatron who knows what may have happened.

chronic wrote:primus may not have been seen in the cartoon but he definatly exsits (at least in my mind) im pritty sure hes been alluded to sevral times

Nope.

Primus was never mentioned in the G1 cartoon.

Auto Bot wrote:

Not a similar as you think. As I said before the Matrix opened when it did because of the danger posed by Unicron not Galvatron.

Your facts are a bit off.To begin with Magnus did not "instantly" dig out the Matrix. He had been shooting at them for some time before that.

As for not fighting Galvatron hand to hand.....can you blame him?????

Magnus was out numbered 12 to 1 when he pulled out the Matrix.

when hot rod called took the matrix it powered him up instantly because he was the chosen one then he kicked galvatron out of unicrons eye and used the power of the matrix to blow up unicron from the inside
the matrix is not just a unicron blower-upper, if it was surely it would have destoyed him completely? plus optimus used it again later

as for primus he may not have been seen or refferenced or anything
but i belive in him :P
though not as a 'god' in a mystical sense, more of an original transfomer or something

Some of your fracts are wrong.

chronic wrote:when hot rod called took the matrix it powered him up instantly because he was the chosen one

Incorrect.

The Matrix only powered up Hot Rod the 2nd time he took hold of it.

Leading to my point that it was the danger of Unicron that was the catalyst of the change in form from Hot rod to Rodimus Prime.

chronic wrote: then he kicked galvatron out of unicrons eye

Again Incorrect.

He threw Galvatron out of Unicrons mid section [hip or leg] not his eye.

You need to watch the movie again.

chronic wrote:and used the power of the matrix to blow up unicron from the inside

Which proves that the Matrix responds to Universal danger.

when the threat level is so large that it needs to interfere.
