Idea just poped into my head.
What if rather than 2 opposing armys it was more like a Super Hero comic. Not in the sence that they wear costumes and have secret identities but in the sence that the Focus is on a single hero (Optimus Prime) who is not an Autobot leader but rather a lone Autobot.
And rather than faceing an amry of Decepticons, he fights 1 at a time who exscape from a Cybertron Prison. Megatron would be his most frequently seen enemy like Batman and Joker or Superman and Lex Luthor but Megatron would not be in every issue.
Optimus would start out alone of course but later he could get Bumblebee and Elita-One as Side-Kicks much like Batman has Robin and Batgirl.
Rodimus would allso have his own comic and then there could be a Transformers version of "World's Finest" Batman meets Superman type of thing where Optimus meets Rodimus.
What if Transformers was more like a Superhero comic?

Personally, I think it wouldn't work. Part of the appeal (at least for me) with the Transformers is that there aren't just one of two of them that have these abilities ... but an entire race of beings. I don't honestly know if I would care if it was just one or two Transformers, but hundreds, thats awesome!
Omega Supreme: "Constructicons?! Constructicons enemies. Enemies, DIE!"
Optimus Prime: "This is a military mission, not a vendetta, Omega."
Omega Supreme: "Results: same!"

I think that the new "Transformers Animated" coming out in 2008 is going to be some-what like that. Not so Much Autobot vs. Decepticon all the time although they will still oppose each other but the Decepticons take a background place and the Autobots will have Human Villains to worry about. Kinda like in the G1 Episode " Prime Target". So it wont really be like what your talking about but they are kinda leaning in that direction.

Leave that superhero garble and tomfoolery to the superheros, TF works just fine the way it is!

The thing is, the majority of the original Arc crew are almost TF superheroes as is. They all have unique special powers as well as their racial ability of transforming.
As for a comic book, or cartoon, series focusing on one particular TF as a sort of Batman or Superman-esque character, I could see it maybe working in a pre-war setting, with an Autobot cop or something, or maybe set during the 4 million years that Prime and co were having a nap under a mountain on Earth and Shockwave was ruling the planet. Although, that would be a bit more like Dark Knight Returns.
As to the idea of TFs taking over other genre's how about a Tf crime story? Nightbeat could be the noir-ish detective, Swindle, Runabout and Runamuck and others could be lowlife thugs, and maybe someone like Soundwave could be the criminal mastermind?
Obviously a straight-up war film homage would be great, and fitting. I like the idea of a Transformers story with a western theme, but then have scary flashbacks to Matrix Quest.
