what would you do to save the life of a friend or family relative?

Postby genozaur » Fri Apr 16, 2010 9:50 pm

whether it be through sheer stupidity, ignorence or just plain rotten timing and luck i am sure each of us has lost someone to death that in life was a family relative or a close friend to the point of literally being like family .

more often then not it being a event that haunts each person due to said person believing that on some level or in some way that they did not do enough to save that person in the end

I hate that death is indiscriminate and that it takes no heed of age or race or innocence or guilt. And there have been times, when I have watched loved ones - both pets and people - suffer and die, that were I able to force it into concrete reality, I'd have fought it tooth-and-nail to hold it back for a time, or to force it to end the suffering and to simply take the one in pain and end it.

of all the canines i have known as immediate family to my person over the years i have known at least 1 that i was so close to on a personel level that i loved that dog like she was my own flesh and blood daughter

her name was ala and she was a red short haired minature doxhound. she was my friend but over time i came to love here like she was my own daughter over time

at one point in her life she became paralyzed through the hind legs while she was still at a young age in her life and overtime it got to the point that she would have to be put down at the time it happened.

all i know is that at one point there was nothing that the vet could do to heal her short of extremely costly surgery that i amnd my family could not afford at all at the time

at one point i got so desperate that i was seriously willing to sell my soul on the matter if thats what it would take at the time to heal my baby so that she could go on living her remaining lifetime in good health and without experieincing further pain or suffering in her life time.

at the time i literally did not care at all for the fact that my takin such action on the matter would condemn my soul to a eterity of death pain torment and suffering in hell.

sometimes in life when you love someone so much you would literally go against the will of god and heaven itself and go through hell itself if neeed be to preserve that persons right to live and to preserve that persons good health so as to keep them from dieing the untimely death they are in no way deserving of

where family and true friends are concerned i just happen to be that kind of guy through and through

as it played out at the time i just prayed that god would at least be willing to allow me to die in her place instead so that ala could go on living her life in good health

as for alla she managed to make a full recovery in a months time though the vet never could understand for himself how exactly it wa possible for her to make a full recovery fro msuch a sever injury as a as a paralyzed lower back.

i have no doubt though that i will in some way find myself dieing a untimely death at some later point in my lie for my role in forcing the matter to happen

to be honest i don't got much love in my heart for god and i have little actual faith in him where my person is concerned though i am willing at times to have a greater degree of faith in him where the life of a friend or family relative is concerned

to be honest though i dont much care for his damn will either

i got faith in christ yes and i accept him into my heart as my personel savior but to be honest i just dont give a damn for gods will at times and if i feel i have to act against god on a matter like this i wont think twice of the consequences of my actions where my soul is concerned

sometimes when you love someone so much you would literally go agaisnt heaven and go through hell itself if neeed be to preserve that persons right to live and to preserve that persons good health so as to keep them from dieing the untimely death they are in no way deserving of

i would do that for any friend or relative in my family human or canine alike for that matter

Motto: "You fellas are in for a world of hurtin'!"
Very moving post. I can most certainly relate to you, genozaur. In my time here on earth I've seen a lot of death, on the job (EMT and rescue technician) and in my family. I share your same compassion to our canine comrades. Life long dog owner and lover. I'm glad to here your pup defied the odds, I do truly believe that they feed off of our good vibes and love. Perhaps that played a part in her recovery. Dachshunds are great dogs, my cousin has two!

I lost my best friend in life, my yellow lab Buddy, this past July to a cancer of the spleen. He was quite old, we grew up together. He had canine diabetes too, they said it was probably genetic. He suddenly got sick and collapsed one day. I noticed he was looking a bit rounder than usual. They gave him an ultrasound and found the huge tumor on his spleen. I was left with two options, he could have surgery which he wouldn't survive or I could make his departure peaceful. As a family we wanted it to be peaceful. We took him home for a few days. I cried myself to sleep every night, I was so torn up inside. I couldn't take seeing him in that way. He was on pain meds and was comfortable, puppy hospice basically. In a heartbeat I would have taken that cancer from him. He had been there for me for so much and to know that I couldn't take the bad thing away from him killed me inside. Seeing my father and my now husband break down and completely lose it as he was going ripped my heart and set it on fire. All I could think was, I would have taken a bullet for this dog.

My cousin died of internal bleeding a few years ago. I felt helpless when he was in a coma. I'm so used to helping people and turning a situation around. When he went, I was angry. He wasn't even 30 years old. There are serial killers and rapists walking this earth healthy, I thought. Why did he have to go? He was an amazing person and I'm proud that to have been part of his life. I know there is nothing I could have done, but I would have walked through hell barefoot for him if that is the way things worked. I find some comfort knowing that he's at peace and with my Aunt who died shortly before he did.

The beautiful thing we are left with is, our loved ones who went before we did live on here through our memories, stories, and actions.

if the matter has taught me one thing over time it is that at times one must be willing to take such action on a matter like that if they are to have any chance at all in forcing the matter to change for the better for al lconcenred through sheer force of will

they say that in love all things are possible and that at times the power of love can be the very thing that can save a persons soul from the fires of hell

No it doesn't. Johnny never agrees to sell his soul, Mephisto got it through an accident and killed Johnny's dad anyway. And it wasn't "love" that got Johnny his soul back, it was killing Blackheart and getting that Contract.

Fun fact: if you've be damned to Hell, it's because you sinned. Loving something does not absolve you of sins, and it doesn't undo any contract made with the Devil. Committing a sin out of "love" doesn't make it any better, and selling your soul to the Devil is never justifiable. Do you ever recall a deal with the Devil with the anyone living happily ever after?

As for selling your soul for a dog...no. I wouldn't damn myself to Hell simply so my pet could live another few years. The average life of a dog is around 14 years. I don't think letting it live for a few more years is worth an eternity of torture.

to each their own man i ant gonna argue with you

as the person who adopted her when she was a pup i fully understood at that time the full degree of responsibility that i was taking on in adopting her and raising her.

in the time i knew her as a living person i was always aware of the fact that one day i might very well have to make certain personel sacrifices of my person to keep her healthy and well whether it be financially or otherwise

as they say

Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends, his family , his loved ones.

in life alla was each and all of those to me as my friend and as my daughter

do i regret giving up my soul to heal her?
yes

do i regret the reason that i did this?
no i do not

all the ame though i am willing to make amends for my past and to live my life as a better person who has learned over time to have a greater degree of personel faith in god even though he still strikes me as being something of a jerk ass at times

to be honest i have always felt closer to caniens over humans on a personel level

Have you seen that webcomic where the guy says he'd sell his soul for a puppy? Then he has like two panels of glee and then is chained, floating in the torment of hellfire in the last? I know it's a dumb question Shadowman, because you seem to see everything on the internet, but I think that comic is funny like hell. No pun intended.

I haven't seen it, no. There's a lot on the internet I haven't seen, and a lot on the internet I really don't want to see. (Rhymes with "Door-chan")

But yeah, that's my point. Is an eternity of suffering really worth letting a dog live a few more years?

Well, I meant no harm by saying that the way I did, hopefully you're not upset that I claimed you've seen everything on the internet.

As for the point you're making, it boils down to whether or not you actually believe in the existance of this place of torment to begin with. Just becuase you may NOT believe in it doesn't mean that it does not exist, so please dont think I'm being fatuous even though I spelled it wrong. But if you don't hold to the idea of hell or torment, your view on hell or torment changes somewhat. I'm not religious, and I don't have any use for religion or a belief in hell, but there are few things I'd actually trade eternity in any form for, and as funny as I thought the comic was a dog wouldn't be one of them.

It wasn't on 'that site' for reference. It was on some other site, my girlfriend showed it to me, but it wasn't a site devoted to perversion or idiocy or anything.

Well, the original point the topic was making was "Would you sell your soul to the Devil to save a loved one's life?" I assume them, that some understanding if not belief of an afterlife is required.
