I'd have to go with Swoop. He has been shone to actually have a brain in his head! Not only that, when they "rebelled" and went to Cybertron, Swoop knew when to fall back and switch to recon in order to help the others...gotta love it when they use their brains!
My other favortes technically don't exsist. They are Slam and Slash from the Iaconcity website.You should check them out!

Tie between Swoop and Snarl.

Swoop had great lines in the comics, and Snarl has the awesome super power that doesn't get used in the comics or cartoon because it is so broken.

Of course, there was also Paddles...

There was an anthology of Transformers short stories released a few years ago (the title of the book escapes me at the moment), which included a story about Paddles, the sixth Dinobot.

Of course, we never saw Paddles in the cartoon and comics, because he moved like a wounded walrus when on dry ground, so Grimlock always left him behind on Dinobot Island.

One day there was a big battle that finally basically destroyed the island, and the Autobots left Paddles for dead. In truth, he was actually buried in a land slide our something. He remained there, fully aware but unable to move, for decades. Fortunately, Paddles though sooooooo slowly, that the years didn't cause his sanity to deteriorate, although he did get really lonely (which wasn't much of a change from his previous condition).

Finally, some human paleontologists free him (much of the story actually revolves around Paddles listening to the humans digging above him and longing to meet them) but the accidentally free a Decepticon (who turned into a Jukebox) at the same time. Paddles saves the humans by causing another avalanche to destroy the Decepticon, knowing he himself will be reburied with the possibility of never being freed again.

Long time since I read it, so I'm not sure how much of that I got right.

Between Sludge and Snarl. Loved Snarl's voice in the cartoon. Love that he hates his alternate mode which is the coolest Dinobot alt mode in my opinion.

Classic qoute from them both:

Heavy Metal Wars

Sludge: "Sludge not see this Decepticons before."

Snarl: "Not see again either because we dynamite them to pieces."

Dark Awakening

Snarl: "You all dead!"

Sludge: "Maybe we dead!"

As for the Dinobots having no personality? What about the tech specs or Dreamwave profiles?

I love DW Grimlock's Datatrack on poor old Sludge. I love the idea that he's a big gentle lug not a brawler like Slag.

I always liked the UK comics having him infatuated with the reporter Joy Meadows and Grimlock and Swoop's defective circuitry jibe to her.

It just makes you want to look out for the poor lug.

I do prefer the comics making them all more intelligent. A gang of brawlers. Though obviously poor Sludge is still an idiot. Rememeber him pumping Nucleon into the deactivated Megatron aboard the ark?

Totally agree with the earlier post recommending the ankylosauraus and raptor on Iaconcity. If ever fan designs deserved toys, those are it.

In my opinion, the 6th Dinobot will always be Tyrannitron. Be nice if the Classics line repainted Cruellock as him.

Other than Grimlock, my favorite is Swoop (mainly due to the episode where he helped Spike and Carly on Seibertron).

Sludge is all right for his kindness, but is too slow and stupid.

Slag is bold and fights like a true warrior, but may be aggressive to the point of cruelty.

Snarl just didn't get enough lines in the cartoon.

This how the Dinobots rate for me:

1) Slag
2) Sludge
3) Grimlock
4) Swoop
5) Snarl

I like Slag the most because I just like the Triceratops Dinosaur mode more than the rest. I like Sludge because his stupidity is just plain funny. From "Dark Awakening", 'Maybe we dead..." I laughed so hard when he said that. The rest of the Dinobots are just 'meh' to me.

Snarl was the first and only Dinobot I got in the 80's, the first WST Dinobot to be released and the first Dinobot I got after starting to collect again. I would say Snarl is my favorite.

I think that's why I love him so much too. Snarl was one of my first and favorite transformers and I still have him to this day. When the WST one came out I snatched it up as fast as I could!
