but you didn't say it was the best final fantasy, so I'll spare you all.
ff7 is by far THE MOST OVER-RATED GAME. EVER.
as for my answer to the question, ever since 7, I stopped liking Final Fantasy games. 6 was the last good final fantasy to me.

Mark me down for the most overrated game ever...7 all the way. 8 & 9 were great, too, didn't care much for 10 and have kinda lost interest from there. Plus I don't really have 40+ hours to put into a game these days and those are pretty hard to come back to after a month or more layoff. But they were great games before 10...I think I played most, if not all of them up to 10.
Tekka wrote:o.O Are you sure you have the right game? There is only one version. Unless you mean the PC version, but that would only make two.

Tekka wrote:Final Fantasy 7, followed by 6, 5, 4, 8, and 10 in that order. The others didn't really appeal to me, though I couldn't help but laugh at the way FF12 ripped off Star Wars the whole way through, the FF6 Star Wars references really can't compete.
It has been evident that Final Fantasy 7, to remain in so many charts long after the Playstation became defunct, is a superb game.
Not without it's faults of course; a materia system that made it far too easy to turn your characters into gods, and the lack of enemy creatures that increase in difficulty in relation to your level.
Despite it's faults FF7 remains endearing to so many for it's very colourful characters (everyone loves the Turks) and sub plots. All the little things you can do away from the main quest are what makes this game as popular as it is.
The mini-games, the lovable villains of the Shin-Ra Corporation that follow you from place to place, the large amount of NPCs with their own unique circumstances and humourous interactions, the decisions you can make in the game that don't affect the main storyline but make the events that happen on the side much more fun and personalized.
The comedy value this game offers can't really be seen in any other Final Fantasy game, unless you count some of the shenanigans from FF5 involving Faris or Gilgamesh, though Kefka is very entertaining.
It is one of those games that will endure for a long time and really outshines its siblings with very little effort, though it is a close race against FF6.
One thing that does upset me about its longevity is the appearance of the spin offs. Advent Children with its horrible antagonists and the emo-ification of Cloud, and Dirge of Cerberus with its insulting re-writing of history.
The problem with the spin-offs they're making is they are trying to make the world too epic. The original balance was perfect, the new additions really aren't bringing any good to the world of FF7.
Overrated? Perhaps, but it does not subtract from the substance of the game. The popularity of the game speaks for itself, and most fans will agree, the game deserves the acclaim it receives.
Gutter Bunny wrote:agreed VII held me forever. Probably the only ff game where i was absolutely deadset on completing every objective...it also got me hooked on rpg's, which are now my favorite type of game.
second favorite is probably tactics
i don't feel right calling it my least favorite...but the only one i havn't gotten around to beating is XII. It just doesnt have the final fantasy feel to it(for me anyway)

Shadowman wrote:I wouldn't go so far as to call Dirge of Cerberus a re-write of history, since they never really got into how Vincent came to be in the original story.
Crisis Core, though, is debatable. Since there was no clear-cut back-story for Cloud and Zack, it was mostly up to fan speculation for the longest time. Whether or not it IS a re-write is purely up to how someone viewed the original game.
Advent Children had two purposes: Finish up the Cloud/Aeris story, and have a crapload of totally bitchin' fight scenes. I think they did that with gusto.
And on the subject of Kefka, I think he's a good example of what the Joker would be like given too much power. I have no doubt FF6 could easily be translated into a big DC crossover. That's not a bad thing, though.
Tekka wrote:Rufus' body somehow moved itself from Shin-Ra tower to Sector 8 with no explanation, if he had gotten blown that far he would be DEAD, plus it doesn't make sense as Diamond WEAPON's attack came from the direction of Sector 8, so if he had gotten blown out of the building he would have landed somewhere in the vicinity of Sector 4 or 5.
