The only problem with that is that War for Cybertron wasn't even close to Arkham Asylum's reception or sales.

of course not, i'm still waiting for it to comedown in price for PS3 so i can even play it... but witin the realm of transformers merchandising, hasbro is always looking for the next style

What I meant was, WfC managed to attract us based on hype and nostalgia, and once that wore off we began to notice all the flaws. Go into Seibertron's video game forum and start a thread titled "What don't you like about War for Cybertron" and watch how fast it grows. It is NOT a bad game, by any means. But I certainly wouldn't compare it to Arkham Asylum.

Are you talking about problems with the Gameplay mechanics, or do people have problems with the look and story as well?

It's all down to opinion, but just about everything under the sun has been criticized at one point or another. My main problem is with multiplayer's horrid lack of host migration. And how they're giving bonus-exp weekends and DLC rather than fixing that problem. And custom characters are just main character bodies, but you can choose new colors, but the actual color selection is very limited.

The story is fairly shallow and character development doesn't happen, but then this is Transformers so I can happily look past that. There are a few good flying and driving segments, but they don't last particularly long. Environments are largely kind of same-y, but they can often be very dark. At first I didn't like the over use of neon lighting on designs until I realized that's the only way I'd be able to see them. And top it all off, you can potentially complete the game the day you start playing it.

That aside, and I know this sounds contradictory, but the game isn't the worst ever. In fact, as far as Transformers games go, it's actually really good. If they fix host migration, add in a few more colors to custom characters, and perhaps dropped in a couple more campaign missions, this may actually be a fantastic game.

Aww... and I was hoping for it to at least continue in comic books. Well, maybe that could be a project for the community!

Anyway, with TFA being a pretty huge nostalgia-fest for us older fans, I guess it makes sense that they follow it with a Bayformers series to try to appeal to the younger and newer audiences. I never had a problem with the TFA animation style, personally, as it was the way television was and I'd lost my taste for the rigid style of 80's cartoons. This new series risks dryness, but I'll give it the chance it deserves...once someone sneaks the episodes onto YouTube, of course.

Still, five seasons?! I can see this series pulling two at best, especially with no tie-in products planned. Did I really read that right? Although I must admit I don't find the Bayformers toys nearly as entertaining as, well, even those from RID and Energon (Not the best shows, but HELLA awesome toys!) but Transformers is known for the mantra "To Sell Toys"...the mind boggles.

And Rodimus, it's interesting to meet someone in the biz on this site. I'm getting a general film degree (Including a splash of animation), but I'm more an idea man than a production guy. I'm quite interested in learning how one breaks into the industry, if we could discuss it in PM.

Ahhh...now there's something I've not heard! Very interesting! Thanks for sharing that!

So I guess that's where Prime comes in. What you're saying makes sense too, because despite what Hasbro is saying about it being the same continuity as WFC, it has little in common with WFC, from the designs to all the contradictions in the story.

I can't help but wonder if the popularity and overwhelmingly favourable reception toward WFC has affected Hasbro's stance about TF:Prime, i.e. why they're slow to make toys, and quick to try and tie it in with WFC, when they're clearly not the same story.

The decision was very high up and people at CartoonNetwork involved (i dont want to name names) were told last minute too.
I found out as i was working on the Official IDW comic and looking forward to working on volume two...

IDW wouldnt continue the comic because Hasbro wasnt interested

THATS because they were already pouring reserouces into what would become TF Prime to blend into the movie franchise.

The thing with most video games is they have short shelflife popularitys, but recently games like ArkhamAsylum really tapped into "cult collectors" and i think War For Cybertron has done the same, the game was welcomed better than Hasbro had hoped and still ties into the WarWithin - classics vibe.

But TFA is like Beastwars, it's got a strong clear visual style that Hasbro just wanted to break from

That said, TFA is still huge in japan, the AllSpark Almanacs are the BEST TF artbooks in existance and this year a NEW TFA book will come out with brand new comic pages i illustrated for it, it's on pre-order on Amazon at the moment...

so in small ways TFA endures

Cool session! Very interesting info! Thanks for sharing the link! Man I can't believe how geeky the audience was. Any how, man...that flash forward episode idea for Galvatron ruling Cybertron would be wicked! Sigh, pity. I would so love if season 4 could be done.

So would I! Although I totally cried at the end of Endgame Part 2. (I'm probably lame, but I'm a chick and I just loved Prowl, so I think I'm allowed)

Japan started airing the show themselves, but they wanted it to tie in with the Bayverse, so while they were dubbing it, they changed Bulkhead to Ironhide and they make it as a prequel to the movies. Sooo...yea.

I think CN said that season 3 was NOT going to be released, which totally sucks major @$$, but, unfortunately, I'm not in control.

And I agree (from a comment way back): there was not enough Rodimus! :D

Anyway... Nice to meet ya!

Actually I think it was Hasbro is making their own channel, so they decided not to renew with Cartoon network.
