I think the future will be more like how it was presented in Firefly/Serenity than Star Wars or Star Trek.

What's more, we now have what even the most imaginative sci-fi writers of the past CAN'T EVER imagine, like DVD players, Internet, cell phones, etc. And yes, toss in cloning and plans to go to the Mars in about 7 years or so, too.
So - do you think there will actually be a far-off future where we finally join the many races of aliens in the galactic community, build robots that actually think for themselves (and even transform into vehicles), and live like the characters of Futurama or Jetsons?
If not, how come?

Cell phones were predicted in Star Trek, remember? Possibly even earlier, but those little flip-up wireless communicators certainly weren't even close to development back in those days. And I guess in some sense they were using wireless internet too, what with all their accessing records from other planets and such.
