you need another hobby mate maybe on the lines of burning all your toys to start off with
yeah but in a couple years time these will be worth more than PS3 on launch day. Its called investment dude (i know i know, i don't collect because of financial gain)
Ok a checklist of things i like that transformers delivers:
Giant robots/mechs: check
Cars/vehicles/architecture: check
Ninja ability to become something else: check
Broad range of characters and personalities: check
Happy childhood memories: check
I'd say that logically, i should like transformers
besides i'd much rather go around burning Xbox 360s (he likes Xbox 360)

I collect single strands of hair off the floor in the hair salons. I label and date them accordingly, then vacuum seal them for freashness.*commence heavy breathing*

People really need to realise that only a handful of TF's will ever appreciate in value.
Optimus Prime use to be one of them, but thanks to numerous reissues look how much he's worth.
Armada etc figures? Won't be worth much either. 10 years down the track very few BW figures have appreciated in value.
You may as well just enjoy them for the toys they are unless you're planning to buy up a bunch of MIB Fortress Maximuses, and even then I can't see him appreciating much in value these days considering his current value.

Yeah i know that but i said it to shut him up because there is some truth behind it like how armada/energon unicron became more expensive when primus was released. the originals always increase in value and thats not just transformers.
why do people keep transformers MISB? after all, the point of buying a TF is to transform it. if it stays in 1 form in a box it might as well be an action figure. why do people buy 2 or 3 of the same transformer? because they appreciate in value.
i collect because i like the concept of transformers and it incorporates everything i like. If they appreciate in value thats just an added bonus, hence why i wroteStar Jammer wrote:(i know i know, i don't collect because of financial gain)
perhaps burn, you should learn to read and understand a statement fully before critisizing someone.

Tranformers t-shirts in general... not gonna lie, most of the time they bring shame. Same with wrestling shirts.
Burn wrote:Not to mention that considering i've worked for an accountant for 10 years, been a collector not just of TF's but antiques for even longer, I know all about things that appreciate and depreciate, and frankly, I don't see TF's being a line that will return much in the way of financial gain.
And if you don't do it, fine, but others do because they've seen the price of some G1 figures. That market is already beginning to go bust anyway so if people are in this for investment purposes, it's going to be their loss.
And you're just lucky your friend doesn't realise that otherwise he would have blown your defense out of the water.

I disagree with your assessment completely, Transformers are an excellent investment for monetary gain. Ebay alone is proof of what people will pay for the stuff. There are many Transformers from BW and on that are worth a great deal of money. To simply say G1 toys are the only viable option for investment and even that market is going bust is totally incorrect.
Transformers are like many other collectables, as long as there is someone looking for what you have, you will have no problem selling it for a certain price. Especially if said toys are MISB.
As for the kid having problems at school, first, don't pay any attention to the retards of high school, most teenagers are morons to begin with, they are usually the ones who think it's cool to do drugs and drink underage. All just idiots.
Ignore them, enjoy your hobby and your toys and if they say anything, tell'em to go F*** Themselves.

I don't understand the AFA thing, it makes no sense, they take a TF worth about 50 bucks and inflate it to over 300 and that's all they are doing. I have tons of AFA grade stuff I'm sure, I just don't send it off to them to get it appraised at an inflated price.
Hell I can remember when RiD stuff was going for stupid prices on ebay. Thank god I have most of that series now. The problem is the last few I need MISB or MOSC are all really hard to find.

Where abouts in Canada do you live? What do you still need from RID? I know that Scourge and Team Bullet Train were bastards to get a hold of. I still think Rail Racer is the best combiner out there today.

Maritimes. Both Scourge and Rail Racer were not made available here at all. I have them both now.
I still need:
Air Attack Optimus Primal
Bruticus
Megabolt Megatron (Green on in Armada packaging)
Smokejumper that other jet
Ruination in Urban Camo colours
Yellow Build Team
Bludgeon
Dinobots that were in Armada style packaging, all of them.
I'm pretty close to having all of RiD, it's my goal to try and finish it.
I even have some of the harder to get stuff like Cryotek.

I remember seeing Cryotek on sale at Zellers for $5 because no one wanted itAlot of the stuff you mentioned as never released in Canada. It has been a flaw up until Cybertron, where we've received everything. Runiation Camo, Yellow Build Team, Bludgeon, Other Scourge, All 5 Dinobots were all never released up north as far as I know. I've seen them at shows, but for rediculous prices. I didn't think that RID did the Smokejumper two pack, I thought it was cancled. As for Bruticus, I'm 100% sure there's still a few on a Zellers shelf somewhere near here. Megabolt was gone quick and Air Attack Op always had a damaged box around these parts so it ended up on clearence many times.
Those are all good examples of what to sell on eBay. Items that were hard to find elsewhere in the world. For Christmas my step mom bought me E-Beachcomber because I've been looking for it for about 3 years now. She ended up paying $80 US for it. Not worth that much in my eys, but I'm still thankful she picked it up for me.
