^^^ This.

I may end up with a UT set to keep in shark mode.

These guys are all pretty affordable, and having 6 or 7 sharkies is not really a problem as they are the very definition of army builders.

You are welcome! :D

I wouldn't call myself a frequent visitor though, only really looking at the M3 and Prometheus threads with a side trip to Microblaze Creations and iGear Sharkticons. The arguments and TFC hating alone are enough to make me limit my time there #-o

I'm glad i chose UT for my Sharkticons. There's too many things i don't like about Igear's to justify buying them.

Same! I like the more basic, G1-esque look of the Sharkies over the iGear dudes. Especially in beast mode.

UT's seem more Classics, while iGear's seem more 'Neo'. Dunno if that's a distinction without a difference, but so be it.

I come here for the arguments and opinions...

I agree with that statement.

Igear's just doesn't look as cool in shark mode. The mouth is too narrow and has puffy cheeks.
Image
Seriously!! Just look at it......it looks more like a sucker fish type mouth than a ferocious gaping mah. I can't stand it.

Also seeing those backside shots of IGear's i can say i'm not too big a fan of the bot mode either. With those goofy head sculpts, hollow legs and giant heel spurs.

But of course if others prefer it...so be it. I just won't agree with ya. :D

I see what you're saying, but iGear's has better teeth, IMO. UT's just doesn't convey the mouth full of layers of teeth that the movie shows them having.

I totally see your point, but to the extent that his entire beast body is mushed like it is, that's a missing-the-forest-for-the-trees kind of complaint. Which is 100% OK, btw.

I got these guys at a toy con the other day. And I gotta say .... I'm very impressed. I mean ... it's probably the best iGear product I have. It's not like it's a miracle of engineering, but all the joints are solid and everything just works. Except for the really floppy shoulder pads; those could have been improved on. In real life I'm not really bothered by the elongated face. I still do like UT's overall alt. mode, but iGear's is no slouch either.

As much as I do like UT's Sharkies, I have to say iGear has the better product. Although overpriced, but from what I understand that actually wasn't iGear's fault.

I was thinking about getting the black one to contrast with my UT Sharkies and lead them into the battle, but I stumbled across BH Sharkticon Megatron yesterday, and love the hell out of it. So it's a pass on iGear.

Definitely post what y'all think about them.

Quick thoughts before I post some pics this weekend. (I need to dig my Alicon out of my shelf.)

iGear's quality is far superior to UT. The joints are tight (except for the shoulder pad, which is only minorly annoying.) I find the gap where the robot feet meet the main body in shark mode minorly annoying as well. But overall, I really like the shark mode as well as the bot mode. But I like the UT version directly from the front better. I don't like how there are no places to store the guns on both versions. At least in UT I have been able to store the gun in the fin cavity inside the mouth. I'll have to look more in the UT version.

I seem to remember stating this somewhere else, but it never appeared in this thread. iGear is my new favorite for the names of the characters alone: Brody, Hooper, and Quint.

I love Jaws.

Alright, pic time. (A quick note, I'd like a scaled down version of Alicon. I think I took some neat pics, but Alicon is too big for my Classics shelves...) Warning, photo-spam coming. (Where's Monty Python when I need them?)

Image
I tried to mimic Megatronus's sig...

"Stop biting my eyeball!" "Seriously, you, like, fall apart when I touch you. They can't see it, but your friend is already missing his shoulder pad. It's on the floor somewhere. I didn't eat it. I swear!"

Who is compensating for what here? Maybe I need to bring Tracks or Sideswipe in...

"Ninny bong this!

"Roll over and you'll get an energon treat." "Oh, yeah...Scratch my belly...yeah, yeah, yeah" *thump* *thump*

Image
If only Alicon were half the size. Never before has UT Sharky looked more like Dorf...

Image
Only missing the Baliff. I wonder if BBTS.... Image

The other thing is that iGear's Sharkticons desperately need silver between the lips and the eyes. There is no clear defining ridge to help with a sharpie. I might have to see if Repro Labels comes up with a set.

I do like the shark mode slightly better on the UT version (because of the aforementioned silver) but only slightly. iGear has surprised me at how good they look. iGear also gets full marks for quality. I am seriously tired of UT's falling apart at a simple touch, and this is after I've been treating some of the parts with superglue to tighten joints. Somewhere in my basement is my missing shoulder pad. I hope my wife has not vacuumed it up.

iGear wins, but I do like how my shelf has 6 sharkticons, 8 if you count the two Beast Wars sharks that I have re-purposed to be sharkticons before getting these guys.

Thanks for this, helped to erase any doubts I had about getting iGear's Sharkticons. Can't wait for them to arrive (gotta wait a while before shipping the current PoL though).

Just ordered these guys on clearance at BBTS. Excited to have em in hand, but given my final thoughts, I might sell 2 of them for shelf space.

Everyone has their own opinions, but I gota say, I find the UT versions ugly as hell. It might have some paint aps in the right places that make it more G1, but so much about it turned me off that I am so glad a better looking Igear one exists.

UTs looks really dumb from the side with an almost flat face, opposed to the more convex shape of igears, and the legs don't have the right bending angle. It doesn't look too bad from the front, and the gold eyes are cool, I'll give you that, but that flat face just ruins it for me. The G1 toon Sharkies did have a rounder maw like UTs, but in my collection, having maws that looked closer to real piranhas (narrower) definitely works for me coz they look even more terrifying.

As for bot mode, igear wins hands down for me, as the proportions of the UTs are ridiculous. It looks like a little kids toy with such a huge and young looking head/face, and the tiny legs at the bottom of such a wide body. The igear version actually looks like an adult, or even old-timer robot with a gruff, brawler face. Everything else about it is also awesome in comparison with UTs, and I actually enjoy the teeth lining the neck area, just makes him look even more protected and less friendly.

I think I might paint the spikes on the tail silver for added metal badassery.

Think $80 for Three 3rd party Igear Sharkticons is a great price. It equates to $26.33 for each toy.

What size are these Igear Sharkticons? Basic, Deluxe or Voyager scale?

The 1986 Sharkticons rank low on my updates list. I'll be more than satisfied with the $8 HasTak 30th Legends scale Sharkticon toy.

What size are these Igear Sharkticons? Basic, Deluxe or Voyager scale?

The 1986 Sharkticons rank low on my updates list. I'll be more than satisfied with the $8 HasTak 30th Legends scale Sharkticon toy.

This should answer all your questions:
