Yeah, it's pretty standard for big films marketed primarily towards minors (such as Pokemon, Godzilla, and Gamera), although if I remember right in most cases the figure is pretty small and more like a figurine, with larger exclusives available for purchase at the souvenier booth. The exception would be in cases where the tickets are at a premium so the 'free collectible' isn't really free and the lines are huge.

Or like if they made an Action Man film in the U.K. and say it's their movie, in spite of the original Action Man toys being G.I. Joe! Or like making a Jenny film in Japan and saying it's Japan's film!

Also, I believe the good folks at Toho prefer to think of Tristar's Godzilla as 100% American (assuming by "new" you meant the film 7 installments back).

At more than twice the normal ticket price, I'd hardly call it a free toy.

In Japan, movie tickets are usually between 1,300 and 1,800 yen. The ticket/Bumblebee combo is 3,999 yen.

You could complain about fans in Japan having to pay 4,000 yen for a mold that people in the US are paying 10 bucks for. That sounds fair.

I prefer not to think in yen...it only depresses me further.

The first commandment of capitalism is "carpe diem". But the second is "scratch thy friend's back lest ye go unscratched."

Maybe you could make friends with some of those dastardly collectors in Japan and get them to offer you a deal?

Thought the first commandment of capitolism was "Have your friend scratch your back, and then stab their's."? :-?
