...and it occurred to me that instead of using the time machine to steal energy form Cybertron's golden age, why didn't he try to use to...oh, I don't know, stop Optimus from being built, or prevent the Autobots form ever putting up a fight?

Their was one episode whare the Decons built a time machine, but the Arialbots got sucked into the golden age, where they meet Orion-Prax.

Megs shot Orion-Prax and almost killed him, but he was repared and rebuilt into the first fighting-type Autobot.

So it's actualy Meg's falt that OP is around to lead the Autobots.

That's the one I'm talking about. Why didn't Megs go back and prevent Orion form becoming Prime? After all, it is a time machine.

Maybe Megatron didnt know that one of the many Autobots he has blasted through the eons came back as Optimus Prime.

or maybe Megatron was smarter than you think, screwing around with time by affecting something big like stopping Optimus gettin built would majorly affect causality (why would megatron go back and destroy someone who didnt become cybertrons greatest hero?) so he used the time machine on something small, like stealing energon, cybertron is meant to run low on energon anyway in the timeline so the effect wouldnt be so drastic.

Megs didn't know then and never found out that Optimus Prime was rebuilt from Orion Pax. When Optimus shows up to face Megs for the first time, Megs looks right at him and asks him who he is.

What I don't get is why he didn't invite the arielbots to his side when they wanted to join.

I think he knew that they would eventually see that evil is not for them and go back to the Autobots, so he decided to be deceptive right away.

Except for color and a few detail, Orion does not look much like Optimus. And, seriously, does Megatron pay attention to who he blast?

No, if you are not one of his lackees then you are not important. And his lackees are only important for carrying out simple orders.

Hehehe, yup. All it took was some tweaking and a face mask to upgrade Ops from pansy to kick-ass Prime. I think they should have altered his design a little, though, to reflect that this was before he picked up his earth alt-mode.

What am I nitpicking about, though? This origin version only belonged to the 'toon-verse.
