Exactly! I personally prefer using the datadiscs, but that's just my preference!

KFC are clearly trying to pass these off as MP scale, if they weren't then they would never have posted this,
Image ;)

X, you have constantly disregarded and ignored the reasons for the way the MP line is being done because it doesn't cater to your specific needs. The MP cassettes, while not completely perfect, are much closer to MP scale than Classic, but can reasonably be used for either. To make a claim about the scale of a line you actively ignore is kinda arrogant :BANG_HEAD:

The MP line is about cartoon accurate figures. Considering the animators completely screwed up the scale on a regular basis Takara is using the guide the animators were supposed to follow to keep everything coherent. I'd have though a G1 nut like yourself would appreciate the effort they are making [-( (P.S. this is not an excuse for more "coffee table" verbal diarrhea)

Image

Now can we please get back to how crap KFC products are :P Gotta say, I'm liking the cassette mode for Badbat. KFC doesn't usually manage to make a good cassette mode with these, but this time they've done it!

First of all when I’m talking “G1 scale”, I’m always talking cartoon scale. I totally disregard the G1 toy scale which was screwed up to begin with because it was slavish to the constraints of kid’s toys. Especially with the characters that didn’t transform into vehicles. (Soundwave,Blaster,Megatron,Perceptor, cassettes) Those characters had toys that were way out of cartoon scale in order to match the proper size of their real life alt modes.

My last pictures of the Ravages and Lazerbeaks prove that while the MP designers decided to upsize the Soundwave’s size, they failed to do the same with his minions. I mean it just makes so much sense to upsize one character but not the others, right? I’m not disputing the “gotta fit in his chest” gimmick. But why do the cassettes need to be compatible with G1 Soundwave? It’s a larger toy so why not have larger cassettes? That was a stupid decision by Takara and totally ruined the cartoon scale for you MP collectors. (even though it worked out to my advantage lol)

MP Ravage is even smaller than classics Ravage that came with hound. What’s up with that ???

But since most of you guys think I just talk a bunch of crap, let’s break out the G1 cartoon and let the pictures do the talking…

When going by G1 cartoon scale, does MP Rumble really scale so well with MP Soundwave ?

Image

Or does MP Rumble scale better with classics figures when going by G1 cartoon scale?

Image

Of course there were some scenes where the cassettes were drawn smaller on purpose during altercations with Spike, Sparkplug, Chip, etc. But in general the cassettes were all larger in the cartoon. I do feel the MP designers got Lazerbeak’s scale about right in comparison with MP Soundwave. But Rumble/frenzy was a huge fail. And Ravage was the worst…

Do all of you want Ravage to look like a Jaguar or a Chihuahua when sitting next to MP Soundwave?

Image

People don’t seem to like my “coffee table” centerpiece reference when talking about the MP line. But seriously, does anyone have the room for 150 Barbie doll sized figures if they ever did the whole G1 cast in MP scale? The way people complain about money on this website, I just don’t it happening…

So any of you guys know where I can get some nice Decepticon coasters ?

Image

It’s time to call it a night…

That's par for the course with KFC.

First of all, G1 toy scale is being ignored by everyone, except Tsutsukakushi, because it was made up of different Japanese toy lines that originally had nothing to do with each other, and nothing to do with being "slavish to the constraints of kid’s toys". Do you even know where the first couple of years of G1 toys came from? :HEADHURTS:

As for cartoon scale, really?! You are basing everything on G1 cartoon scale

Rated X wrote:That was a stupid decision by Takara and totally ruined the cartoon scale for you MP collectors.
So you are going back to the arrogant "I speak for everyone" thing again, huh? Takara ruined nothing for me. In fact, they've made it better, because I can now look at my MP's while watching the cartoon to see exactly how they are supposed to scale together when in bot mode ;)

Rated X wrote:MP Ravage is even smaller than classics Ravage that came with hound. What’s up with that ???
They are two completely different lines, why must one be bigger than the other?

Rated X wrote:But since most of you guys think I just talk a bunch of crap, let’s break out the G1 cartoon and let the pictures do the talking…
Do I need to re-post those gifs?

Rated X wrote:When going by G1 cartoon scale, does MP Rumble really scale so well with MP Soundwave ?
The G1 cartoons, as I understand it, were supposed to use the scale chart but that only happened some of the time. So considering that Takara are using the scale chart with the MP line, then yes, he does.

Again, the cartoon got scale wrong in practically every episode. The Rumble/Frenzy mold is fantastically spot on, they are well scaled for the MP line, and look incredibly show accurate. I agree with Ravage being the worst, but that has nothing to do with his size, and everything to do with his cat mode.

I only speak for myself. But I do try to pass my logic on to those who are willing to open up their minds and understand it. I don't go by that stupid "chart". I go by the G1 cartoon because that's what I grew up with. Although they screwed up plenty of times, every character has a general size in the cartoon. And those "general sizes" just flat out don't go with that chart. Like I said before, why bother to upsize the master but not his minions ? Part of the MP line is about upsizing as well. They are big enough to choke slam a Barbie doll. But if you upsize the minions, then you couldn't have the chest/tape gimmick ? That's gotta be the real reason Takara didn't upsize the cassettes even a little bit. But to make them compatible with G1 Soundwave was pointless in my opinion. They come with a MP Soundwave. Who's going to put them inside a 1984 brick ? Either way, it worked for me because now I have properly scaled classics cassettes. The MP collectors got shafted with MP minicons that look like cassettes. ;)

How do you possibly know that? do you huge collection of Barbie dolls? Is that why you are always comparing the Masterpiece line to Barbie dolls? (its cool if you do, I'm not judging)

Also if you have a picture of masterpiece Soundwave choke slamming a Barbie doll Please do post pics.

When I was a kid my neighbor used to blow up his little sister's Barbie dolls with firecrackers. So I’m well aware of the size similarities between 80’s Barbie dolls and MP Soundwave. If I could get hold of a Barbie doll for free, MP Soundwave choke slamming her would make an awesome signature. ;)

If it looks right, it looks right. I think MP cassettes are fine for both MP AND cartoon scale. It's not like the cartoons were consistent; it's entirely possible to say they work fine with both.

Bear in mind the scale with Classics Decepticons is screwed anyway.

Well, did you not want the cassettes to be compatible with Masterpiece Soundwave either, then? I ask, as the compartment on his chest is sized to accommodate these cassettes, and it pretty much fills his chest area. So you really couldn't make the compartment larger without making Masterpiece Soundwave bigger, Masterpiece Soundwave is a pretty good size as he is, and if they made the cassettes larger as you seem to wish they had, then they wouldn't fit in Masterpiece Soundwave, either.

And I am confused about how you like your scale. You said you don't care about how the G1 toys scaled together, so forget about that. But you seem to want your toys to match G1 cartoon scale when compared with each other.

Now, G1 cartoon scale is a mythic joke, so usually I wouldn't be bothered too much to argue things based on it. But you also mentioned that Lazerbeak was a good size. Now, one piece of G1 scale I think no one would argue is that Soundwave's minions have identically sized alt modes, since they are all cassettes. So if Lazerbeak is a good scale for you, and the cassette alt modes are all supposed to be the same size, how can the others - when they all form identically sized cassettes, not be a proper scale for you?

Well Lazerbeak always seemed to perch on either Soundwave or Megatrons arm in the cartoon. And you can pull that pose off nicely with MP Laserbeak and voyager scale FOC Soundwave or Hegemon. It works with MP Soundwave as well just slightly smaller but still the size of a bird of prey.

Ravage on the other hand, just doesnt look like a Jaguar next to MP Soundwave. He looks more like a house cat or even smaller. But if you put him next to a voyager figure he looks more like the size a Jaguar should. Ravage wasnt the size of a house cat when the Autobots trapped him in that cage, was he ?

Rumble's scale is more of a preference. In some cartoon scenes he was portrayed as being the size of a human. And in other cartoon scenes he was portrayed as being just a bit smaller than a mini bot. Which do you prefer ? I prefer the mini-bot size over the human size.

There were a variety of characters that either grew or shrunk during transformation. That was one of the cool things about the cartoon. Michael Bay didnt want that in his movies, but in G1 it made sense. Think of it as some kind of weird alien power. It doesnt necessarily translate to an error in scale.

Oh no, not another of these discussions. Well anyway Badbat is probably the 2nd best Ratbat I have seen, with MP being the best. Both will be an improvement over the B(T)S figure I currently have. If they don't make MP Ratbat available seperately (which they may do for the 'rest of the world' market then Badbat will suffice.

Sorry - it's just that I can't see Takara ever letting that happen. The opportunity to boost sales of MP Soundblaster is too strong. Looking back, I can see my comment being construed as rude, and I apologize if that was the case.

I wouldnt feel guilty. I bought a legit MP Soundwave just for the cassettes so its not like they didnt get a fair amount of my money. But screwing everybody over by not offering ratbat alone was a dick move by takara. They could have sold him in a two pack with laserbeak for people who only collect the cassettes. So if they KO ratbat, it would be sweet payback.

Offering Ratbat with MP SoundBlaster is no more dickish than offering any other cassette exclusively with any one product.

If they KO Ratbot I fully expect it to be with a KO of SoundBlaster as well. If they had wanted to release KOs of cassettes separately they would have released Lazerbeak already.

Sorry, perhaps that was a bit snarky of me... I just get annoyed when people say, "Wait for the KO! Buy the KO! Yay, KOs!" Tis why I try to avoid KO threads these days, I suppose... but I do get annoyed when it seems to leak into other threads as well, as it did into this one.

And how is it hypocritical? One cannot like third party toys and dislike KOs? Heck, I dislike KOs of third party products, as well. I fail to see the hypocrisy.

Sorry... sorry. I, for one, am not intending a huge discussion on the matter. My plan was to drop it after my previous comment, and restrict further comments (if any) to Badbat.

Personally, I don't understand why people would be discussing a currently non-existent, purely hypothetical KO of a completely different toy (granted, that is the same character Badbat is meant to represent) in this thread, anyway.

As to representations of Ratbat in general, personally I think it is BS that you can't get a decent modern representation of him (be it official Masterpiece or a third party "Classics" style) without having to also purchase a Soundwave/blaster that I don't need or want. But that's life, it sucks sometimes and we don't always get everything we want. I'll either pony up the cash and deal with having a Soundwave/blaster I don't need, or live without a Ratbat unless a legitimate option becomes available. It isn't the end of the world. (Going for the later option, I fear.)

That being said, I do hope KFC does see the demand and eventually release Badbat separately. (And not just as recolors as Wingthing or SG Ratbat.)

It was a dick move because throughout the entire g1 cartoon, ratbat was one of soundwaves minions, not soundblaster. So they screwed over everybody who already bought mp soundwave and dont need a soundblaster. Hasbro didnt pull that crap with the foc cassettes. They paired foc soundblaster with buzzaw, the one cassette that was hardly ever on the show. Foc ratbat came in a 2 pack. Why cant takara issue a 2 pack with ratbat like they did with the other mp cassettes ? It is a dick move worthy of a nice KO...
