Lady Luck Smiled On Me Today
Lady Luck Smiled On Me Today

So my wife came home later this afternoon and at the kitchen entrance announced, "Guess what I found for $5.50 at the thrift store today?"
And I'm thinking, "Um, a jacket? a pair of shoes? A sweater on sale?"
Moments later there materializes in her hands an opened, loose in box, Transformers Darth Vader Death Star!!
For $5.50!!!
I thought for sure there was a defect of some sort on the figure, a missing panel, faulty electronics--something that would induce someone to drop it off at the local thrift store.
And yet.
It was complete minus the three stormtrooper figures and the missile for the gun attachment.
Every panel, the miniature Darth Vader including the three ships, the light saber, instructions--it's all present.
Unreal.
I own the Death Star.
For less than six bucks.

And hey, when I get mine I plan on omitting the rocket, so no loss there, and I'm sure you can put something better than storm troopers in the compartments anyway(they just don't look right anyhow).
Now stop reading this and go play

That last sentence just brought it together.Glitcher wrote:That scenario sounds strangely unreal. Not because of the toy's price, but because your wife would be so considerate as to actually buy it for you. If I had asked my wife what her magnificent purchase was, it probably would be a new coat.

That was my observation, too.
The reason my wife picked it up is because she had asked me last month what I wanted for Christmas. I told her in a roundabout way, "The Transformers Death Star. It's fifty bucks, though."
Then she saw it today on the thrift store shelf for $5.50.
She said she wanted to go ahead a wrap it up and toss it under thre tree; but she just had to share the good news--and to avoid wrapping a defective figure should that have been the case.
She's no collector nor is she all too supportive of my collecting, but she was thrilled to have struck oil with this one.
The figure rocks, I have to say.

That's because she got a bargain, no woman can resist a bargain, whether they need or even want the item or not. It's why my gf brings home shoes and scrapbooking stuff every other day.
