Looks odd, even for Whirl. I hope he's mistransformed, but I guess we'll see when it's in hand. Oh well, at least we have the deluxe

Yo guys, he's definitely all kinds of mistransformed. Here's the official product images for Whirl:

I'm also certain that I read somewhere on TFW2005 that he's also capable of having chicken legs. I'm probably wrong, but something to keep in mind.

I don't want to hear any claims of being mis-transformed or badly posed; there's nothing that can save this Whirl figure for me. It just looks too different from any other Transformer figure found on the shelves today.
Dreadwing still looks good, if mis-transformed.

It's always weird to me to hear people say things that are diametrically opposed to something a GEEWUNER would say.

That looks way better than horrible, but still not IDW enough like I was expecting. It does at least bring back fond memories of being 8yrs old

Now here's the thing, he looks so very much like the original toy which along with its design is still owned by Bandai.
So wouldn't this be pretty much the exact same thing as all the 3rd Party figures by FP, iGear, and co, which are apparently so very very evil?
I still don't understand why this is based on the original toy instead of the idw design like most of the other figures, I thought Generations current incarnation was supposed to be idw.
That said I still think he looks epic.

It's a mix of both the G1 design and the IDW design. The head and legs are IDW-based, while the rest of it is G1 Whirl.Dead Metal wrote:Now here's the thing, he looks so very much like the original toy which along with its design is still owned by Bandai.

I really really like the design of this figure.
The design of this figure and your argument completely deflates others' speculation that MP Soundwave could not be done because Takara/Hasbro do not own the rights to the original toy.

?
Last I checked Soundwave's original toy originated from Takara's Microchange toyline. If Takara didn't own the rights to that, we probably wouldn't have gotten an MP Megatron, or reissues of either of the originals for that matter.

Just like Classics Jetfire is a third-party Valkyrie
I love that he's such a departure from the rest of the line, that exactly how the G1 toy was. G1 Whirl sticks out like a sore thumb in a G1 collection, but he's a Transformer none the less. Glad they went this route.

That's a very important distinction, friend! And who knows whether they'll bother, with Quakewave already all over the place. Time will tell.
Not to stray too far from the topic, I don't think that has stopped Takara and Hasbro before.

When have they released a 1st party item right after the release of a similar 3rd party item? That 3rd party Masterpiece-scale Soundwave was never finished, and they certainly haven't made a Classics Sixshot. Nor has HasTak ever made anything Hearts of Steel-related.
(I do apologize for getting off-topic, by the way, but I'm honestly curious now.)

Ah Shockwave might actually be a problem. I remember an interview from a while back in which the original owner stated that they wouldn't mind doing something with the mold again, being proud of what it influenced, but don't think they even still own the rights to it. apparently they're not sure anymore if they only sold licenses for the design or actual ownership of it, and they're not even sure which company might own the design now.
But I didn't state that HasTak couldn't do this, legally they can as long as it's not an exact copy of the design, otherwise Bandai would have sued them long ago for the Classics Jetfire mold. Just like Has/Tak can't sue 3rd party companies like FP.

I agree with you 100%. My original message may not have been clear. I was showing a comparison that MP Shockwave could certainly be on the table for Has/Tak, and corrabating that with your statement about Generations Whirl. Sometimes fans get hung up on the idea that in order for Has/Tak to create a new figure with G1 characteristics they must own the original license. And that's simply not the case.

Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).
