Gees Im sick and tired of reading that Yanks don't like the idea of importing dvds and the whole multi region players thing as a forgien concept. The rest of us have done it for yonks and don't bitch. You can't have everything you want.

Anything special that needs to be done to said DVD-R?
I think what Ryan is talking about is that his DVD player can play DIVX straight from a CD or DVD, so you don't need Nero to convert and burn into a DVD format... I use Nero to convert to a DVD format my Transformer's Victory and plays fine on the PS2 or my HDMI Phillips DVD player...

Yes, that's what I'm saving. I burn the media files to a DVD-R, just like you would if you were making a backup of files on your computer. I pop the disk into my DVD player and it will play the files on the DVD. I don't have to do anything special at all with the files and they don't have to be DIVX format either.

COBY makes a region free dvd player that is sold at CVS for 30$ and it plays VCDS which was a first for me cause i could never find a player that would play my VCDS lol.. And aren't all dvd players in computers region free as well ?
Check Out My Site , www.PrimulArchangelboxes.com for cool custom WST boxes and some full size G1 repro boxes and more

No, they are definitely not. You can switch the region of your computer a few times. But after 5 times on Windows XP, you can't switch back any more.
I'm also not talking about players that play VCDs (though mine will do that as well). We're talking about players that will actually play DVDs from other countries.

Entire Series Boxed Set
Here is a link to the entire G1 series plus the movie boxed set. It is the Chinese distribution but I have watched every episode perfectly on my Wal-Mart $25 Magnavox DVD player. The one downside is that by default the audio is not in english so you must select English on your DVD remote, but it works fine after that. Very affordable too!

Not sure if anyone else mentioned that.

As all i know in Luxembourg it's legal to sell Multyregional DVD player I got mine in a HiFi from Pioneer and I will wait also when we get Multyregional Bluray player and when they are much cheaper.
I know that it's illegal in Germany and in Belgium so I just say viva Luxembourg.

RCE
Can anyone shed some light on the RCE (Regional Code Enhancing) which is a new system developed by the MPAA which prevents consumers with region free DVD players from watching Region 1 DVDs and does this affect the Philips DVP642 DivX-Certified Progressive-Scan DVD Player?

On the Xbox if you have a "Gameshark" and load the gameshark on the Xbox. There is an option where you can change the region code settings to watch any region movies without actually changing the settings on your hardware. You can also watch DVD+-R or DVD DL +- movies on the Xbox if you using software like Nero or DVD shrink...

this also works on the ps2, although they may require specific versions of the "hack" program. Dunno, its been a long time since i've had to watch a dvd froma different region

you can get reasonably priced players that play any disc and will convert the signal to NTSC if the disc is PAL (for those in the USA). also multi voltage so if you do move oversea you can take it with you.
eg the yamaha dvd S657s, I think technically its made for region 3 but will play anything. They are about $200 but the picture and audio are better than a $40 player. AS far as i know this model and others come like this from the factories, no hack needed. remember though you need to buy the import not the domestic version (that i assume doesnt play everything)

This is an awesome PSA!
The more you know and all!
Also, on average All region DVD players with PAL are often cheaper than non-coded DVD players. Go Figure!
So go buy on, get on ebay and see that you can get an actual factory import of just about any anime for pennies on the dollar compared to US retail!

I've heard questionable things are the quality of Cyberhome DVD players so I don't recommend them though I do have a lot of friends that have them. It's mostly been online reviews that I've read about the shady quality of Cyberhomes. However, my friends all seem to say that the Cyberhomes work just fine.
I have a CyberHome(I got it for the name, it was to close not to), and I gotta say it beats the hell out of both my Magnavox and Sony palyers. It did so well, that I gave my brother my Sony player and just tossed out my Magnavox, and got 3 more.
On sale, these average $24.99, cheaper than most bots, and easier to exchange if it does turn sour!

Oh... so does the game shark change the region for the PS2 as well? It's what I have.

It may be able to change the region but not the format. American PS2s can only display a NTSC signal.
