Well, look, I love G1, but I just have to agree that those designs wouldn't translate well to live action, and would just be more of the same. People don't want to pay to see a movie that was made with the exact same designs as their childhood. This movie seems to have just enough to remind people about why they loved the franchise while keeping it fresh and contemporary. Now, if you want G1, I think its safe to say that it is far too late now.

Well, we'll see. I think it's pretty obvious at this point that the movie is just a dumb action epic (Independence Day, Godzilla 98) rather than cool character driven Sci-Fi (Star Trek, X-men 1 and 2). I would have prefered that, to this. I think a lot of people feel that way too.

The script is very, very bad. Sure dialogue will change from this version to the next, but the core concepts are all there. And they are just not very good.

The biggest problem is that this is not a movie about Transformers. That was never the concept to begin with. It's a movie about people dealing with Transformers, which is very different. It would be like if the X-men movies were told from the point of view of a regular person who meets up with Wolverine. It's just not as interesting as it could be.

The designs still, in my opinion, are universally bad. They didn't have to be G1 (I actually kinda like Trans-tech) but they didn't have to be this weird insect robo skeleton hangy bit stuff either. And I think we all agree Megatron looks horrible- and he's the main villain- that says a lot.

I stand by that the people involved just weren't the right ones to do this. How much cooler would this film have been headed up by Luc Besson (5th element) or Alex Proyas (Dark City). Directors who know something about sci-fi/fantasy and art direction. Bay is just way too literal for me, and more than a little boring.

I know I can't stop the movie from coming out- I just hope that no more follow it.

But it isn't Luc Besson or Alex Proyas so was your point in repeating yourself over and over again.

Oh by the way no offense but I happen to think Star Trek is boring, so sue me.

I repeat just to hit home that this movie isn't as cool as it should be. There's so much buzz for it that it bums me out that we just have to settle for whatever they give us, verses actually getting something cool. Those directors are better directors than Bay. Bay is a brain-dead action movie director. I don't want a brain-dead action movie Transformers film.

Yeah, some of Star Trek is boring, but the first two X-men were really good. And all in all both of those series handle the whole "alien other" storyline way better than this.

I guess in the end I'm just bummed out that Transformers is never gonna make it into being something that's actually quality. It will forever be a dumb toy movie with army men and aliens. I chock it up to the filmmakers for not being able to do something new or fresh with the story, and in the end reverting back to bad B-movie clichés and big explosions. I want X-men, and I'm getting Independence Day.

Shouldn't the Transformers movie be better than that?

Don't you want a movie better than that?

Just like the original show will always be a dumb toy cartoon with army men and aliens. The difference is we all gave it a chance then and some people don't want to now. You seem to have put transformers on some pedestal in your life that frankly I dont think it deserves. Yeah I like the stuff but damn this franchise will always be about selling some toys past, present, and future. It will never be the movie that "you" have in mind unless you are the one to make it. And even then I dont think it would live up to your "standards" of what a transformer movie should be.

No. Because I haven't seen the movie yet.

No one has seen the movie. I would find a point and would understand you if this conversation was taking place after July 4th.

But you haven't seen nothing you are just speculating because of a leaked script, trailers and your own opinion of the transformers designs and Michael Bay as a director.
Anything that you try to make me see is pointless because none of us, have seen it.

Is that simple. You wanted so much more and you are getting what you didn't want to. Regardless of your opinion a lot of us and even people who aren't fans are gonna go see this movie anyways. Wether it sucks or not. Just because you like a certain type of movie genre doesn't mean is gonna be horrible.
I know that I'm going to be entertained at some level. Which I'm fine cause the only reason I go to the movies is just for that.

Again I understand some of your frustrations but I'm doing my best as not to think that you are just whining like a kid that didn't get what he wanted for Christmas.

Yeah, Satanatron, you are right on some levels too.

I don't want this to end as an angry convo, but I am tired too, so I'm calling it quits on this one (:

I'll ride it out until the movie gets released. It would be amazing if the movie was good, and I think everyone wants it to be good.

Sure the show was always about selling toys- heck, they killed everyone in the cartoon movie just for that reason. Make room for more toys.

In a way, I guess that's what's happening here with this movie too. Killing off old ideas and looks, to make room for new ones. I just hope they're good ideas.

I think my concerns are legit- but only for the fan base that wanted Transformers to move up a notch with a live action movie. To get deeper, broader, and cooler, all at the same time. The movie, well, it might do that. I don't get that vibe at all- but who knows, it could surprise us... Although I've seen absolutely nothing that tells me otherwise. Couldn't a trailer show a Decepticon talking to another Decepticon... or is it true that they just don't? That's my problem I guess. Everyone keeps saying "Wait for the movie" but the movie's shown me nothing that says "I am a good movie with Robots who are characters." Instead all of the previews focus on the action and Shia getting a car who just happens to be a Robot. So you see, it's really not selling itself very well, to me at least. That's why I just don't trust it at all. You could replace all the robot scenes with dinosaurs, and get Jurassic Park 4.

Some people are cool with it being just something fun and forgettable, and that's it. I understand. I just wish that there was a happy medium, you know?

The thing I won't excuse is laziness. I won't submit to the theory that if the source material is dumb, it's okay for the movie to be too. I can't support mass dumbening- esp with movies.

When the film actually arrives, we'll all have crazy stuff to say I'm sure. If it is as weak as I think it is, then who knows. Me and a bunch of angry Trans-fans can't stop it from existing- and we won't feel any better about it being bad- in fact, we'll probably feel worse.

Filming's wrapped, whatever the script ended up being was shot- so, like they say in the business, "Hope they can fix that in post."
I'm not angry... I just hate most things.

back on topic, since all the movie vehicles are by GM do you think the next movie vehicles would be purely GM again. Would the rights to the toy alternators also cover the movie too? ex: if prowl was introduced, would he be an Acura RSX, Hound as a Jeep YJ, etc.

i've been thinking of alt modes for the possible sequel like crazy but if there all going to be GM, it narrows down selection, but Trailbreaker would be a Chevy Trailblazer :-P

From what I have observed from watching my own children, a G1-esk movie would not do very well. While my children love playing with my old toys and are very big transformer fans, they can not sit through a single G1 episode. Now take into the account that my children are in the 7-11 age group (one of the major groups being targeted for this movie) and they are VERY excited to see this movie. And while it breaks my heart (and makes me cringe) to hear them say that Optimus looks "AWESOME" with flames and Megs looks "SO COOL" I know that they are one of the reasons that this film will succeed. I mean pleeeeeeeease, I cant believe how many Transformer movie commercials are on the cartoon network. Everytime they go to commercial there's one. And while I wasn't originally very happy with the new looks they have really grown on me and I have come to really like them. I myself lost complete interest of transformers after G1 and never watched any of the other renditions so I am not used to seeing re-incarnations of my childhood heros. So trust me when I say that at first it was really hard to see the new designs.

All and all I am VERY excited to see this movie and I can't wait to see what they come up with for a sequel. And I think that the new generation of Transformer fans will be too.
