Now, maybe I had bought crappy movie toys, but I really doubt that MP series figures are so shoddily QC'ed. I know about the first MP Starscreams missing fingers, and MP Megatrons' 'rust' issues, but again, I must be the only TF collector who buys toys that have passed QC inspections. My Mps have so far all been fine. I don't know, I suppose if you are just anti-G1 Prime vehicle mode, then I can understand. Really, that semi wasn't a very good looking vehicle, but as far as MP Prime, I'm with Bonger. MP Prime is hands down one of the best TFs ever made, and I hate Optimus Prime. But that figure is pure excellence.

I'm not anti-G1 Prime. In fact, i'm a G1 Prime fan. It took me a while before i can accept the Movie Prime new truck mode.

It was exactly because i'm a G1 Prime fan, particularly the cab-over-engine truck mode fan, that i was so aghast and disappointed at how Takara mutilated this beautifully nostalgic truck design.

There was no QC issue about MP Prime. It was solidly made. What's disappointing is the design, not the quality.

Sure, it was similar to the cartoon. But the cartoon is still far closer to the real truck in design. At least it was not grossly disproportionate and deformed. (In some cases, the drawing is deformed, but those are due to the quality of drawings.) The cartoon version is mostly simplified.

I can see where you are coming from on that. Withuot the trailer, MP Prime in truck mode does look a little off. However, with the trailer he looks like pure excellence. The only issue I have is the side windows being non-existant. However, with Prime, bot mode is waaaay more important than truck, and it is in bot mode that he shinces like no other TF.

However, with Grimlock, both modes will need to be spot on as chances are that most people will display him as a T-Rex, but with an MP, the bot mode does need to be perfect imo

the silhouette of grimlock is actually slightly different to the G1 box art.

a MP grimlock would ideally be chunked up rather like a dreamwave image, his thighs would need to be bigger unlike those skinny G1 versions.

one criticism of MP megs is that his robot mode was rather slim due to the nature of the real type gun (that can be remedied somehat by pushing his legs down a bit into the shins and raising the tops of his feet, instead of having long skinny legs and flipper feet he gets shorter, chunkier loking legs with a more substantial looking foot-it looks way better) i can see the point of the real gun in MP version but it would have been interesting had the designers actually beefed up the gun a bit, ie made it wider which even if say 5% added in width dimension could have given a less anorexic robot mode.

If you take the side door and vehicle interior into account, MP Prime is a big loser compared to Alternators.

And MP should have been the "flag-ship" series.

Well.. the idea behind the lines is different. Alt/Bt is realistic vehicles and MP is directed as being the best representation of the toy possible. I'm sorry but I think a realistic truck prime would suffer a LOT when you'd have him represened in robot mode.

Heck .. the only place where he isn't as correct as his G1 counterpart is in that very side window/door.
And you know what a truck looks like, right? how could they ever make legs out of the base of a truck without it looking very awkward?

I am psyched about the possibility of MP Grimlock and the continuation of the Masterpiece line. The only request I have - please put an ample amount of die-cast back into the figures. I think MP Prime is stellar because of his heftiness. MP Megatron, (though I love him to death) falls short compared to Prime because he doesn't have enough die-cast.

That's a challenge Takara/Hasbro should face. Now that TF has been pushed further into realism with the live action movie.

Of course MP-01 is already MP-01. We can't change that anymore.

I hope MP Grimlock, if ever it's in the pipeline, will have better designs than just merely copying or perfecting G1.

It will be nice if it has a realistic T-Rex proportions. The modern concept of T-Rex, that is. (Such as Classics Grimlock) And a full range of dino movements.

Ok, I hate to seem like I'm beating such a dead horse here, but I really don't get it. First your issue with MP Prime was something about the truck mode looking unrealistic, then you started talking about proportions or something, and now the issue is that the vehicle interior is better represented in the Alternators line, which is meant to show super detailed cars? I don't know....maybe it's the general climate of Seibertron these days, but this just sounds like complaining for the sake of complaining. If you are that unhappy with the toy, then why did you/would you buy one?

Yea, I don't get it either. I mean, I see where he is coming from, but still, we are talking about the single most awesome Transformer EVER EVER EVER made by any company EVER EVER EVER EVER!!!

It feels sacriligious to be having this conversation. I'm now gonna go kiss my MP Primes and beg for forgiveness. :-B

P.S. I have a feeling that all this angst is coming from newer collectors. I really cannot see how anyone who sufferred through the 90s could possibly be anything but gleeful the last couple of years. I mean WOW. If you weren't into BW, there was NOTHING to buy, read or watch in 90s asides for fanfics online. And now there is jsut so much wealth spread through soo many lines, it is almost unfathomable to me. The people who have rejoined the hoby over the last couple of years are just spoiled rotten and act like it most of them time.

I mean bitching about Botcon and the club?? Do these people even understand that Botcon kept TFs alive for most people during the worst TF times. That we prayed for things like Botcon and the Club for years. To see them healthy and thriving now is awesome and they can charge as much as they want for all I care as long as they keep doing what they're doing.

OK then, I think I've been wanting to say that for a long time now. Feels good to get it out.

I think I may make a new thread just for this post. :)

Spot on, although I will complain about stuff (Nightwatch Prime's color)I won't about a lot of the rest.
Even though I "rejoined" as well It's been great for me.. I mean.. I can't complain about the colors of MP-3 because he still looks like starscream and when I hold the original toy I can not have anything but respect for the engineers and designers working on this stuff. I don't know about the new kids... but this is literally the stuff I dreamed about as a Kid

I'm with Bonger. Right before or after the movie came out there was a backlash against those of us who are G1 collectors because we weren't willing to change with the times apparently. Nowadays someone who bought Nightwatch Prime feels entitled to be called a collector on the same level as someone who has collected for years and years, in some cases all the way back to the beginning. I am in no ways suggesting that people who started collecting with the movie this summer are not legitemate collectors, but how can someone who just got started berate people who've been in the game for years on end? I don't have to like Nightwatch Prime in order to be a 'true collector', just like you don't have to like G1 Prime in order to be a 'true collector'.
This MP Prime complaining reeks of post count increases and pointless nitpicking about a toy that in all reality leaves no room for nitpicking. The Botcon/TFCC anger is most certainly pointless, because some of the same people complaining about these avenues were ready to burn a guy alive in July for selling the Target Starscreams on eBay, and are now all in the hunt of the 'premium' movie figures because they are reported to be 'exclusives'. I really don't care, complain about whatever you feel so slighted by, but stop peeing on my good time. If I hate movie Longarm (P.O.S.) I've commited some atrocity against humanity, but everyone else can pop a vessel over the Club and I'm just supposed to be alright with that?

I agree with you guys. I am actually a new collector and purchased the first movie Leader Prime followed by the Hasbro 20th Anniversary Prime. the 20th Anniversary Prime to me was amazing, since the last transformer I owned was G1 Prime. I have the Encore as well, and although I like the toy for the 80's retro and G1 flava....that 20th Prime is my favorite next to MP Hasbro Starscream. And it does look like a truck....I passed one of those today. Blame it on truck design and how body styles have progressed in the last 20 years...After all, that was the "Truck" Body style in the 80's.

But isn't this suppoed to be a forum about Grimlock???? I only came here to check outany new info of this HOPEFUl.
