I found out today, that my wife bought me MP-36 for our upcoming 1099th anniversary. :BANG_HEAD: :BANG_HEAD:

Well, I mean... it doesn't exactly look terrible, right? I'm sure you could find some use for him in some display. Have him be an alternate universe Megatron that grew to ridiculous heights and a ragtag team of Legends Brawn, Voyager Optimus and Deluxe Perceptor have to take him down :P

Then you will have the opportunity for the fig to grow on you. Get your "zing". Handling the item personally is waaaaaaaay different from just looking and reading the experience.

Concerning aesthetics, whether it's the regular TF to the MP class, Megs for instance, there are parts of the bot riddled with screw holes on the thighs. I wonder if technology/engineering would advance to a point where the can minimize them. Like the turducken HMR Monster of Bandai.

But given how it's got lots of moving parts, pipe dream.

Also the previous post mentioned that the gun barrel is die-cast painted and chips? Oooo boy. Good bye UNCLE Play acting then. Event the telescopic shoulder mounted mode is a no go too?

No more of it then except the posing play with the stock part.

So we not only have to just be careful with the figure but also USE THE INSTRUCTIONS! This is not, repeat, NOT a TF toy whose transformation is to be trifled with. I understand the want to figure out the transformation without help, but for something like this, let's all make an exception and give due respect to MP-36's instructions, lest we all suffer a similar barrel breakage.

Additionally, to further avoid any breakage of the barrel via the silencer, this TFW user has provided us with a rather in-depth photo guide for disassembling and sanding down the silencer so as to also prevent paint damage as well.

It really helps to also know Nihonggo (so long as the instruction manual is accurate and not the HB type ones 8-} makes me wonder why Takara, even in their website, never released an english translated manual for the MPs? ). As you said, expensive high end collectibles, they maybe fragile maybe tough. It's always a risk to damage it.

I cancelled my preorder today because of the information provided in this thread. I was reading comments to help make my decision and all of a sudden im a god...

My advice is to let enough clumsy collectors take one for the team until Takara offers a fix similar to MP Ramjet. It could be new parts. It could be a reissue with diecast parts. It could be a mass recall. (yeah right) But the other 2 options are highly possible. At $230 a pop these MP-36s arent exactly flying off their online shelves. So its time to play the waiting game.

And yes ol X collects MP now but only official and only Decepticons. :CON:

Still do CHUG, slowed down on 3P simply because Hasbro finally started making stuff fans actually want.

Just an observation on my part, but other than the QC issues with Megatron, why is the hate is so apparent? If one is hating it just to justify the decision of buying the third party version, there is no need as we are in a situation where there are a couple of MP Megatron toys to choose from. Some people are happy with the bulky look. I am not since I grew up with the cartoon G1 Megatron and the unofficial ones tend to have the proportions more like the comics. However, there are people who prefers the bulkier Megatron over the skinnier MP-36 Megatron, and that is fine since liking one thing doesn't make you wrong.

As others have said, the figure is too new to see if the QC problems are wide spread. Even if it is, we have had third party figures break on us before. This isn't just a Hasbro or Takara Tomy problem. It is the nature of expensive toys as they are made up of small and delicate parts. It sounds a bit odd that the more money we spend on a figure, the more fragile it is. However, it is true as someone who also buys 1/6 figures, some pieces can be very fragile when handling because of the small scale. It saddening that people are reporting breaking issues.

Since you are also a 1/6 fig connoisseur, just like me, we all know it comes with the territory. Expecting a fig not to break is well, unrealistic. Heck, some of my G1 toys and BW figs just broke up (due to age and materials used most possibly) without being manhandled at all.

And since we already now/aware of the potential, what do we do? Avoid damaging the item. Of course you can refuse to buy one until an improved version comes about or get it consequences be d@mned!

That's the collectors life. Though it can be annoying that some heckling comes about between 3rd party and 1st party supporters. To each his own preference right? Especially posts like "mine doesn't break up while your's does". It's like comparing apples and avocadoes. Different design, manufacturers, different materials. And besides heckling or complaining what good does it do? 8-}

The best to channel all the negativity and email the manufacturer right? Wait! Takara doesn't give a slag to Non Japanese customers! And, your Megs hasn't broken up yet! Wait for it to break? :BOOM:
Write Hb? Unless you get them direct through HB Asia I suppose and wait for a replacement? But realistically, I doubt there will be a mass recall if there be only 5% of the entire stock. Heck, even through Sabr reports, the breakages are due to mishandling (?) I'm putting a (?) because we aren't sure yet and I don't want to be one of the statistics who has a broken Megs ;)

My oh my, Sabrblade, those are some seductive pictures. Makes me want an MP Megaempress though. One can never have enough Megaempress.

I'm not sure what to think of this whole fiasco. On the one hand, this is definitely the most "accurate" Megatron on the market, and he does have a lot of character. On the other hand the transformation looks like a complete ballache, the figure looks questionable from angles other than straight on, the use of grey (and not even the right shade of grey!) instead of silver is a real bummer, and on top of all that it seems he's more than a little fragile/prone to paint scrapes.

I suppose I can't really comment given I have neither the funds nor space for an MP "collection" at the moment, but given I don't really care about perfect cartoon accuracy so much as having a set of cool toys...I really think it might have to be Despotron for me. Aesthetically I like him better, and with the exception of a very easily fixed error he's pretty much perfect functionally (or so I'm told), which is what matters. Sorry Takara, ya dun goofed.

That said, if Takara does an MP G2 Megatron I'd buy the hell out of it.

Sorry.

I found out today, that my wife bought me MP-36 for our upcoming 1099th anniversary. :BANG_HEAD: :BANG_HEAD:

Its rude to sell a gift. :BANG_HEAD: :BANG_HEAD:

I love her to the moon and back, but I need to better educate her on my robbit buying habits. She thought I canceled the pre order just because of the price. Damn it all.....

Wot.

Eesh, still, all those moving parts. Heavy tolerances. Maybe the die cast should have gone to some hinges rather than the feet

I'm an immortal, didn't Burn tell you?

Against all my instincts, I now find myself intensely curious about this figure. I don't see me selling Despotron, as I love him so much, but I won't sell a gift, either, even if I get the little lady's okay. I guess I'll put truth to rumor in a few days.

you better not sell it.
you could put him on a shelf on his own or keep him in gun mode.
of course i wouldnt transform him unless you want paint chips

After all the negative hype and the unnecessary arguing going on in this post, I am still very excited to get my Megs--especially after realizing the "QC issues" have been mainly operator error. Looking forward to more posts from people who finally have it in hand and saying how great the figure is--even if I happen to be one of the few.

Just got mine in the mail today from AMIAMI. Everything looks unadulterated and pristine, but I do not intend on transforming him more than once perhaps, and I don't intend on attaching the peripherals. You can clearly see in the sheet that it comes with detailing images about the design process that the peripherals were measured and attached before paint applications. This is still scary though. I'm nervous about his legs too. We'll see what happens.

Anyone in Ontario Canada get it yet? I fear mine was held by customs!

"Item has been presented to Canada Border Services Agency for customs review."
