Yikes! And for us in the U.S. that's... only $295... huh. Exchange rate dropped from $1.25 USD to $0.74 since I was there in the summer.. Would this make me a millionaire in Canada?

Well that was a prototype and the stock images seem to have it straighter so I guess not.

what's up bro?
But maaan is that the bot to get. I'm glad I passed on the Maketoys (ByTheSkinOfMyTeeth) & DX9 's versions because this Megatron looks ****! Cartoon brought to life with playability and looks durable. Hopefully the cost is for being diecast where it counts

I dont really see that. As canadians, we have our own ways to get it, made for us. Importing from BBTS has a double import fee so I dont know why anyone would look at that option since you arent paying for the toy at that point but instead you are paying for 2 governments to approve its entry to the country and double shipping.
As a canadian, anime export is the way to go. We canadians do not have to worry about the orange plug at all. He is currently $205 CAD + shipping on anime export: http://www.anime-export.com/product/33874
You can e-mail them to ask for them to write a lower declared amount on the shipping to help you get through customs. Shipping should be about $40 CAD if you pick SAL (and thats a very conservtive estimate). So any canadian who wants megatron could easily get him for about $245 CAD (or less depending on how much cheaper the shipping is from my estimate).
If you want a dedicated canadian site, there is also ages 3 and up. http://www.agesthreeandup.com/mp-36-mas ... -megatron/
Megs shipped before tax would be about 324, so closer to your estimate. And the tax rate will depend on your province but the worst is Quebec where it would be $372 (cheapest would be alberta at $340).
That is still not $400 though.

Anime Exports.....Ive never used them.
If i bought from A3U and picked it up from the store instead of shipped i'd still be looking at 350.
This figure simply is not worth that price. Even your quoted 250 is still a painful purchase that is pushing the envelope for what you're actually getting.
But with that being said i'm done whining about it. Either i pay or don't. Thanks for the Anime Exports info. That's definitely helpful.

So....for those in the US, what are you all thinking? I checked all the Japanese sites, and none make any mention of customer's local toy gun laws. I'll assume none of them will open the package and put in an orange plug. And if that's the case and customs opens up the package, I'm not confident they won't confiscate it.

It's not really their responsibility. If they're not US based, (like BBTS) then they don't have to comply with US laws. It comes down to the individuals responsibility to ensure they comply with local laws.

Yea I understand that. But I think a few days ago someone here mentioned that HLJ inserts the plug. I didn't see any mention of it on their listing.

No I don't own any 3rd party versions.
The head/face sculpt is really really solid, and that's always a huge deal for me.
Now, the $220 price tag has forced me to pump the brakes on pre-ordering.
My kid's birthday and Christmas both happening next month have obviously not helped.
But I don't see how I could pass on this.
And some will find this silly, but the thought of Megatron and Soundwave displayed standing side by side... I'll admit it's one of those TF's-things I've wanted for a long, long time.

Its not silly at all, but you dont need to wait or spend that much money to acheive it

nycPrime wrote:I reached out to HLJ and they got back to me with the following. To be clear, they misunderstood my question about the orange plug as a request.

I see you are torn about this NYC and I understand. I do truly believe that the orange plug issue is only for US sellers and not the consumers/buyers/fans themselves. But I do understand that you dont want to be the one person this happens to and be stuck without a toy you spent money on.
So this is the best suggestion: wait.
With how expensive this is on BBTS, many US fans have already preordered this on Anime Export and others will get him off HLJ or Amiami. It is an expensive toy so I doubt he will sell out before he comes out. And he isnt exclusive or limited so there is bound to be a lot of him. So wait till these fans get him from the japanese vendors. You will then see if they have trouble or not. And you can then be sure that your item wont be stopped. Also, you will be able to see the reviews by then and also be sure that you do like this toy and that there isnt a glaring problem with it (or at least no problem that is a deal breaker).
So wait till he comes out, and if there are no reported problems, then get him from HLJ or amiami: http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail ... 5030&rank=
And I suggest you pick the SAL shipping option, your savings will be even more brag worthy

Wow, that's quite a difference this time ($20) I can't ignore it. Is there a catch? Does Anime-Export charge significantly higher shipping fees or something?

Between AE and AmiAmi the difference is only $6, but since AE charges up front and the yen continues to decline there's a chance that AmiAmi could come out lower come April compared to what it costs buying right now. And we aren't that far from there with the current exchange rate being $1 = 107JPY and needing $1 = 112JPY to hit the $154 price.

Between AE and HLJ the difference atm is $20. I'm considering buying it from AE this time.

But they did warn me, that if I were to walk around with Megs in gun mode in public, I'd risk a hefty fine cause he's then considered a weapon. But I guess that kinda makes sense and I wasn't going to do that anyways.
I'd rather stay aware and be rejected

I ordered from all of them and the shipping is comparable. The reason AE is so much cheaper is because they get your money right away. So they are guaranteeing that all their inventory will be sold. HLJ let's you cancel a preorder so that added luxory comes at a price. Since they risk being stuck with unsold inventory that will eventually be sold at a discount, their price is higher.
