If you handed it over to any of the directors people usually wish for the fandom would live to regret it no matter how much they celebrated Bay's departure.
There you are again, making "uninformed" judgment calls on the motivations of others.
When I say "general audience" I mean "general audience" as in those that regularly attend movies based on pre-established series but are not fans of those series on a regular.
You and many may feel he's best for the job, others do not, either way it is INDEED A MATTER OF OPINION.You may feel that other directors would fail and bring regret to the fandom, and you might be right, but many within the fandom already regret that Bay ever got the job.
I myself have a hard time picking a different director for this franchise.I wont deny Bay his credit on making popular films, including these, but he doesnt tell great stories and his stories dont have great continuity.
True, Transformers as a whole has continuity issues, but I would have expected a bit better from a big screan adaptation.
Either way you cut it, it should be possible to make a film that pleases both the fanbase and the general audience.
