Beast Wars optimus optimal transmetal question

i just bought a beast wars transmetal 3 optimus optimal prime figure.

its huge and takes batteries.

i figured out that when you pull on the thrusters an LED lights up the eyes and weapons and fires the missiles.

but.....

what does this little black spring loaded switch do? its located on the battery box section and u can swing it one way and its spring loaded to switch back.

it doesnt do anything. what is it supposed to do?
