minor CG mistake

Postby Autobotic9 » Fri Oct 19, 2007 5:39 am

if anybody's watched the movie, when bumblebee scans his new camaro mode, and then they go and meet up with prime and the others, then everybody transforms. Have you noticed that bee's car mode was entirely unscathed, but when he transformed, the same vehicle parts suddenly sprung with scratches and scorches.
Skywarp is afraid of the creepy grey bar of ads.

This happens the whole way through and it irritates me. They can't do anything to the vehicle modes on set because... theyre on loan or something? You know, its a legal thing. But in the interest of realism they still screw up the robot modes. Look at the cars in any part of the film (barring the original bumblebee) and you'll see theyre always spotless.

I don't know why they'd fear beating up at least a fake Camaro (BB) but the others were all real cars.
It's only GM anyway, so I don't care.

At least it ain't toyota or somethin..or i'd hate the movie.

All of the vehicles used in the movie (save for Starscream, Bonecrusher and Brawl) were made specifically for the movie.

'77 Classic Camaro Bumblebee
Optimus Prime
Ironhide
Ratchet
Barricade
'09 Concept Camaro Bumblebee

Were all handmade.

Optimus was a junker that was stripped, rebuilt, refitted and painted. (Not given by Freightliner, bought from a private owner.)

'77 Bumblebee was made using three different Camaros. All painted, engines restored (or replaced). (Not given by GM, these were bought from private owners.)

Ironhide was a normal stock GMC Topkick, but the exhausts, tailgate, etc were added by hand.

Ratchet was a stock H2 Hummer that was stripped, chopped, refitted, repainted. Work all done by hand.

Barricade was made by Saleen to their exacting specifications. (Not given by GM, nor Ford)

'09 Bumblebee was made from two cars. Both Pontiac GTOs that were stripped, had their interiors gutted, and then the body panels made by hand. Irreplaceable pieces to create the body shell. $500,000.00 per car.

That's why GM wouldn't allow anything to happen to the actual vehicles. A lot of time and money went into this project, and a functional 2009 Camaro (at this point in time, well before actual production) is non existent.

ILM only could do so much here and there to keep it all just right. Granted, it wasn't perfect, but hey...there's never been a movie quite like this one.

I'll take a few negligible errors to enjoy the film.

Dude, I know most of that. (Except from Prime..cool, a resto job.)

And, just saying, you think I'm so dumb as to not know Barricade's a Saleen? also, since Ford doesn't make Saleen's, it obvious they wouldn't provide it. :P

All I was saying is that Gm sucks, they can afford to replace the crap.

I made no comments on your level of intellect. (Nor anyone's for that matter)

My post wasn't directed at you, I was using your's Autobotic9's and Meverix's posts as a base to build my reply off of. Nothing more, nothing less.

You're entitled to like what you want and generally you're entitled to think how you want, but not this time. You made an incorrect assumption about my post and me. I never once made any comments as to whether or not you're dumb, yet there you are putting words in my mouth.

I was posting generalized info for everyone, in case they had questions, they could just take a peek and find their answer.

Seriously, at any moment during the time you were typing your response and hitting the button...did it occur to you that you were about to put your foot in your mouth? If not, you might want to get that checked.

Oh and before you point out this part:
That's why GM wouldn't allow anything to happen to the actual vehicles. A lot of time and money went into this project, and a functional 2009 Camaro (at this point in time, well before actual production) is non existent.

It was aimed at all of this:

Have you noticed that bee's car mode was entirely unscathed, but when he transformed, the same vehicle parts suddenly sprung with scratches and scorches.

They can't do anything to the vehicle modes on set because... theyre on loan or something? You know, its a legal thing.

Those specific pieces. Not the entire posts, not the people, not their opinions. Simply stating facts that might help people figure it out. Nothing more, nothing less.

Granted, I could've been a tad more clear about it being a generalized statement I was going for, but there was no reason for you to take it personally.

Again, I say, you might want to get that checked.

Geez, didn't you see the smileys?
I wasn't being serious, although I was being truthful.
And, just saying, isn't there a functional Prototype Camaro?..or is that the Challenger...whatever. I just like to beleive what I read in Hot Rod.

.... Well anyway.

So they can't scruff up the cars for real, why can't ILM paint some scratches onto the vehicle modes in the appropriate places? Is it because GM don't want their cars to appear in any way damanged?

Reminds me of the Gran Turismo series. The manufacturers said there that they didn't want their cars damaged in the game... I don't understand why.

Now that...that is an excellent question/point.

And it makes a lot of sense. A lot of sense. Dang.

Well, that's pathetic if true.

The obvious point you're missing here is that it has nothing to do with GM. The film makers bought the vehicles with money from the movie's budget, GM can afford to do whatever they want but since the film makers owned the cars THEY could not afford to replace them.

God, I try to bring back the fun, and all I get are flamethrowers.

I realize GM didn't do it, make you feel better?

I just express my feelings freely, I don't care if GM didn't even liscence it! I wouldn't care if they were made on Mars!

Lighten up people. Obviously, you take this stuff way to critically.

I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but I counted three BMW's getting squished/mushed and sat upon.

I'm fairly sure (don't quote me on this) that Beamer's aren't part of GMC. Granted they weren't new vehicles, but you could definitely see the tell-tale grill.

the cratched up car modes didn't bother me too much but bb's clean camaro turning into cratched up robot mode annoyed me.
