It was wonderful idea to made weapon body-integrated in first two movies (but i`m gonna kill slowly those wo write the story, if we ever met, anyway).
They need a new gimmick.
Hasbro Exec #1: "Hey, Exec #2, you know how the Automorph and Mechalive gimmicks were unobtrusive but cool and how most of the toys stored their weapons in vehicle mode?"
Hasbro Exec #2: "Yeah, the first 2 movie toylines were great, if you like the aesthetic."
Hasbro Exec #1 (Visibly intoxicated): "Well this time, I was thinking, 'how could we take that whole "Robots in Disguise" thing and strap a huge, obtrusive gun to it?'"
Hasbro Exec #2 (Reaching for the security call button): "Umm... aren't we trying to make the toys even better?"
Hasbro Exec #1: "I decided that all of the toys would come with massive weapons, with no reasonable use in vehicle mode, and kidnapped your children!"
Hasbro Exec #2: "That's a terrible... Wait, what was that second thing you said?"
Hasbro Exec #1 (now brandishing a knife) : "If you want to see your family again, We're going to ruin this toyline. Together. FOREVER."
And that's why fans can't get what they want.
