Not just that, but the whole "Engrish" feel of it.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:craggy wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Bleh at the Google translation.

The actual names are:
- C.L. (Cliffjumper)
- R.A. (Ratchet)
- Gola/Gora (Gorilla)
- Bulo (Buffalo)
Moral of this post: *never* trust online translators alone.

And, now it's "Balo".
Yeah, but the Romanized form of the name is "Baro", hence the "Ba" pronounciation. Though, we could say that the pun is more of "Buffalo" instead of "Buffalo".JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:Sabrblade wrote:And, now it's "Balo".
I like "Bulo" better, since that preserves the pun in both languages. To elaborate:
バッファロー (baffalou/baffarou) = Buffalo
バロ (balo/baro) = Bulo
Don't you just hate vowels between Japanese and English? I know I do.

not sure either of those is really an honest to goodness, according to Whiteley "pun".
Balo's name is a shortening of "buffalo", accomplished by dropping the middle syllable from the Japanese spelling of the word, turning baffarō (バッファロー) into baro (バロ). It's a bit fiddly when it comes to being effectively translated, though: if we were attempting to recreate the intent of the name's origin in English, he'd be "Bulo", but that's not how his name is actually pronounced, so... nngh.
