Movie Arcee G1 Repaint and Head Sculpt

Postby DJs in Disguise » Sun Oct 28, 2007 6:37 pm

This is one of the two movie figs i have bought and opened and although i was very impressed with her she badly needed a new head ( possibly she still does ) and she had to be made pink. This one is dedicated to my lovley girlfriend who actually talked me into buying this fig and doing the head sculpt , its the first one i have done so any tips on how to make a better one would be cool dont know if im going to stick with this one.

Weapon: Quasar Cannon
Good first attempt. I'd go ahead and try to sculpt a new one though.

Um yeah im with you. Nice first try. Now sculpt 10 more. One of them is bound to look decent. It takes alot of practice. Eventually it will look like her.

Not bad. At some angles, the head actually resembles G1 Arcee. needs a little more work to be perfect though.

Very nice effort for a first attempt, my 100th attempt would not look that close to G1 Arcee!

Pink colour is bang on the money too.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

Weapon: Twin Shoulder-Mounted Rocket Launchers
its definatly very G1 esque, and to be honest an improvement on her movie design!

Looks pretty good, and definitely a promising first attempt.

What materials and tools did you use for this sculpt? For something like this, I'd usually use Green Stuff/Kneadatite (Kneadatite is the original brand name, Green Stuff is what they sell it as at Games Workshop), as it's quite stiff to work with and holds details well. I've got a set of four double-ended dental-style steel sculpting tools as well, that I picked up at my local hobby shop for a few quid. One is a lot like that sold at GW stores (which in itself is very versatile).

I'd say the best way would be to work in layers (which it looks like you have); I'd start by working on the face, allowing space around it for the helmet, and allow that to cure. Then I'd add the main crest of the helmet, and once that's set, the 'buns'. At each stage, it's usually best to form the main shape, leave it for a while, and once it's partly set, score in panel lines; that way the putty retains its shape, and holds the details that much more effectively.

Thanks for the advice im going to try and make a new one tomorrow . I used green stuff and various sculpting tools to make this one im going to try the same method again layering the details as Ramrider said and try really hard to get the likeness right maybe add some more details i think this head looks a bit plain compared to the rest of her , i should post my next effort later in the week all being well.

sweet repaint. I just started using other molding supplies, and have always used super sculpy in the past.
Apoxie sculpt is nice and firm. if you want real a durable end result, use JBweld.

I like the repaint... not quite so sure about the re-sculpting of Arcee's head.

Very cool; I had not seen an Arcee repaint yet. You did a good job and the head sculpt isn't too bad.

all you need to do is put some more vents, markings and colors, (maybe a gloss coat on the eyes) on the head and it should look better.Did you consider ebaying it ?
