Movie Prime's Transformation
Has anyone figured out Optimus' Transformation?
I can't figure out how the duelly wheels get attached to his torso it seems like a strech to me.
I know the hitch pretty much becomes his butt, the arms and legs are in the long nose, the cabin is the chest, but where does the sleeper go? And the chains, anyone know where those go? That's one I really can't figure out!

Where did his trailer go in the cartoon? Probably the same place this stuff went: Optimus Prime's secret pocket-sized Plot Hole.

They all slide around when he transforms until they are in the right place.
Seriously, how many questions are there gonna be about every niggly bit of this movie?

It seems like a bit of bs from Michael Bay to me. He wanted to go for "realism" in the movie, but the movie transformations make about as much sense as the cartoon ones did. If it's going to be like that, why didn't they stick with the original transformations. At least then I could tell the Transformers apart.

The sleeper cab (probably) splits into multiple pieces and are around his backside or somethign.
we know that they *cheat* with the transformations, and at the end of the day we dont really need to know where the bolt and screw went that were under his hood, just as long as we see a chrome pipe here, a grill there, a window there, etc.

Actually if you slow-mo it and try not to be close minded, you actually see some good stuff going on and understanding how the animator decided to do it, for the important chunks of bot atleast.

I'm less worried about where parts of movie Prime go and still concerned how Megatron and Shockwave shrink when they go into alt mode in G1.
Also, I noticed in a few cartoon episodes that the trailer just disappears behind Prime, not rolling backward mind you, but rather shrinking and disappearing. Of course that is just one of the many wonderful errors is the cartoon I guess.

Ben Procter's website, in his TF concept art section has some quicktime movies showing the early rigging & transformation tests for Prime - granted at that particular stage, some pieces are simply floating (its only the rough model, NOT the finished character)

Thanks Dragonslayer! That's what I was looking for! That really explains a whole lot. Prime's Transformation makes much more sense now.
As for the rest of you Decepticreeps, just say you don't know next time or don't answer. You said there was no answer and there was.
Here's another one on Youtube you might be interested in if you didn't already find it.

Shockwave didn't shrink. He was just another 35 foot long raygun

True. I think what bugs me about the transformation is that parts seem to magically shift around imaginary pivot points. I think the sequences are too advanced for me. I have a hard time distinguishing these new Transformers from piles of metal bits.

The movie-based toy will give you a rough idea of which goes where during the transformation.

That's funny I was looking at the Optimus toy today. I think the toy looks about 10x cooler than the movie. I think it's because he looks more like a truck in his robot form than he does on screen.

Oops, I meant Soundwave. That'll learn me to try to write coherent sentences after a long day at work.
Yeah, Shockwave was another ridiculous and altogether seperate problem. Why the hell does he turn into a gun if he can shoot in bot mode anyways? Also, why is a bot that turns into a gun, the worst shot in the universe? He's almost as bad as the A-Team when it comes to hitting stuff and they where supposed to be a crack team of commandos.
I've also always wondered what the hell Shockwave was randomly shooting at in gun mode in some scenes. Apparently it wasn't anything too important because he just stops. In "Transport to Oblivion" he is just blasting away at who knows what before he calls Megatron and then starts bitching to him about needing energon badly because he is almost out of power. How about saving some of that energy by not blasting at random crap when you don't have to, ass?

None of the movie toys were even remotely close to how prime transformed in the movie. The toy designers just guessed how he transformed.

He is the guardian of an entire planet. And seriously understaffed. He needs to pass the time somehow.
Show the Shockwave love!

It is a movie about Alien Robots, who can do whatever they like.
They first off appear as protoforms who scan an Earth vehicle and assume its identity and you are worried about where the "parts" go during transformation.
Where the hell did the parts come from in the first place..!?
They "Transformed" by way of the alien beings they are, who cares where the bits go. BB reformatted from old to new Camaro, why not question this? His outer shell (we know all bots have a protoform skeletal form) changes...how? We dont even see a shot of the change, only an interior view of him scanning the new camaro and then a shot of him appearing in its form.
Enjoy the film for what it is, a Summer blockbuster which happens to be about an 80's based cartoon which we grew up with and are fans of. I have always thought how great it would be if they made a Transformers live action movie and now they have all anyone wants to do is flame it or harp back to G1. Christ, had they not made it would anyone care? But they did, they used the best technological CGI there is and bettered it during post production. Sequels have been green-lit by the studio and whatever Bay and the writers (eventually) choose to do will be what we get.
I'm looking forward to the sequel since TF 2007 was great. A great movie which brought a fresh 21st century incarnation of an old franchise for both old and new fans to enjoy.

Shockwave was sometimes a giant ray-gun and sometimes a hand held one.
My favorite transformation was Omega Supreme. He would blast off leaving his tank and track behind and then when the smoke cleared from his landing on another planet it would all be there again.

Shockwave was always a gaint ray gun. Only once did he appear as a hand held gun. And he was being held by Shockwave. Work out that paradox.

Unless you also mean that time he was held by Bruticus, but being a combiner, Shockwave was still a giant hand held ray gun.

Hmm, yes, I remember the Bruticus incident, but for some reason I am picturing Reflector (or one of the other two camera parts)holding him while they stood in some sort of sludge. I am probably confusing something else
