I can't be the only one that's very concerned about how Lio's beast mode looks from the side. They seem to have chosen to start with the most flattering view of the figure to get us excited while leaving the beast mode out of the display. I really hope it looks good, but I'm not entirely convinced now that the excitement is wearing off.

If licensing is an issue for Masterpiece G1 figures, I don't understand why after 15 years we haven't gotten a Masterpiece Galvatron, Cyclonus, Scourge, Arcee, Kup, Blurr, Insecticons, Perceptor, Blaster or any of the other non-licensed alt mode Transformers characters that are popular. Lots of amazing figures to choose from that don't need a licensing agreement. Happy to get Beast Wars Masterpiece figures, but not in lieu of G1 Masterpiece figures that need to get finished up at this point before we get a Masterpiece Bumblebee Version 3.

I've expressed these thoughts so many times myself it's not even funny. Takara stated they wanted to complete each season in the MP collection. They then dismissed the Gestalts, so that is most of the season one and two Decepticons written off. They later keep fobbing fans off with the excuse of "licensing". Meanwhile there are a considerable number of Season One/Two/Movie/Three & Four designs that require no license at all. The answer to that? Release another Optimus Prime, another Bumblebee

Meanwhile, they have released 5/14 Beast Wars season one cast into the MP line within three years. To me that indicates a preference. Especially since G1 MP has been reset twice now with anime+. That it is something the designers aren't all that invested in anymore. That they want to move on to something new ala Beast Wars etc
So if their heart isn't in it and the corporate suits are the only ones telling them to go on with G1, better for them to put it on hiatus and move on. Until such a time when they care enough again creatively, to push the G1 line beyond a handful of regular characters and redecos.

A bit late here but...I've never been a Masterpiece collector simply because they are too expensive, but they do look fantastic. I don't quite get how the Lio Convoy reveal came with not as much buzz or spectacle as Optimal Optimus or BW Megatron? Sure maybe form the average western fans perspective but what about Japanese fans?

Personally I think Lio Convoy looks great, and truth be told, I've always like the original toy better than any incarnation of Primal. If I were to own any MP figures, It would probably be some version of the original Optimus, Star Saber, and Lio Convoy. It looks absolutely amazing. I'm very pleasantly surprised they even decided to make it at all.

Agreed, maybe let the designers have a bit more creative free reign for a while, working on what figures they want.

I think this is the whole issue. There isn't really any creative freedom with G1, especially with anime+. They have to look exactly like this. There is no room for interpretation, or improvisation. Every other line has only had their base figures, with a vast chasm between what they looked like in their respective shows vs. their toys aka wiggle room for creative license. Anime+ takes all of that away from G1. They become an engineering exercise, not an artistic or creative one.

An example being MP Dinobot in contrast to MP-44 Prime.

About the shoulder, I pretty much called it on this figure, considering I saw the organic lion head on the inside of the shoulder. I like this MP, and I think the lion mode is pretty good (better than the previous versions at least) and that robot mode looks spectacular. I have no connection with this character, nor do I know who he really is, I would gladly buy this figure just for his design.

Also, do I spot a hinge on his chest plate? One that may allow for this?

Jesse Wittenrich of the former TCC discovered something interesting:

Comparing the sizes of Optimus Primal, Lioconvoy and Big Convoy... the original Big Convoy Toy is in scale with both MP Optimus Primal and MP Lioconvoy (whereas the original Primal and Lioconvoy are a head too tall).

So that means that fans who bought the anime colors Encore Big Convoy can now have pretty much the perfect trio of BW leaders!

That original Leo toy is still pretty darn fun though, and it's kinda weird to imagine the MP being smaller than him.

Thanks to an image posted by Darkstone on the TFW2005 boards, we have word that the upcoming MP-48 Lio Convoy is going to be coming with an extra figure much like a lot of the recent Masterpiece figures, but in this case we are getting a truly unique one in the form of Beast Wars II Artemis!

For those who might not know, Artemis and her partner Moon were stationed on the Moon of Gaia, where they observed the events of Beast Wars II and reported in on it, and even starred in a send-off segment at the end of each episode. Moon received a figure back during that Beast Wars II time, but Artemis never got that pleasure. So this means that this will be the first figure ever for her, and she even includes her hammer that she hits Moon with!

This image comes to us from a Figure King magazine tease, so we should know more very shortly on what type and number of accessories Lio Convoy will come with. Could a little Moon figure also be in the works to come with Lio as well?

Okay. That little Artemis figure is striking my inner week in the best way possible.
If there is effectively a little Moon figure too, that may just seal the deal for me to finally get a Beast Wars MP figure. Even if I never watched the original show.

Moon is also an android. It was just never explained how/why he was able to transform like a Transformer.

Also, Moon is tiny compared to the Maximals, so Artemis would need to be as well (NOTE: Not my pics).
