Great use of the legos. The movement of the arm (not the hand) are clicking joints. Back and fourth and all the way around, is what I believe

Depends on clearance. Unless the forearms telescope to allow extra clearance, I'd say they can bend up to about 45 degrees.

I love this to bits. Such clean work, it's incredible!

I wasn't asking about the type of joints. I want to know how much articulation will the arms have, particularly in the shoulders. Will they have horizontal articulation as well as rotation, or rotation only? what about the elbows? flex only or rotation as well? That is what I want to know.
Tramp

Postby Ramrider » Tue Mar 06, 2007 4:36 pm

Oh, yeah, I'd say the elbows would also have rotation, and as long as the shoulder pieces are assembled the way I think they are, they should be able to angle up to some degree as well as the normal rotation.

That is definately impressive. The hips and upper legs look a little scrawny, but I doubt there is much that can be done about that. Other than that, it looks fantastic, Great job. 8)

I think if you can make the legs more bulky someway, you'd have a near-perfect TF. When you finish, I'll just PM you my address

As mentioned in another forum maybe you do something like the pic below similar to the original toy.

Is it possible to transform the upper legs this way? But you may have to adjust the underpants :)

Hello everyone. Just wanted to answer the issue about Grimlock's leg. I am sticking to the way it looks like now, I'm not changing it for a couple of reason. No matter how perfect I would like him to look, it's just not possible for such an imperfect world. I really tried my best to make him look proportion in both robot/dino mode, and this is the best result that I can do. If I change him any further, it would affect the transformation and as well as the dino look. He might end up with a very fat tail. Anyways I added some pictures below on the other option that Grimlock can do with his looks. 1st one is the neutral look, 2nd a folded upper thigh, 3rd picture a folded upper thigh with a lowered chest piece, and 4th the same option Len did with photoshop with a spread folded thigh. The problem with the other option is that he loses his scale with MP Prime, he will end up at the same height or a little taller/shorter, and that just loses his height proportion.

Hey MenchOy, thats one awsome figure youve got there. My suggestion to the waist ordeal tho is if you could just widen the waist plate itself, instead of trying to mis transform the legs. Would that mess with the look of everything? Just a thought. however, im just a watcher myself, so I dont really know to much of these things. Good luck with the rest of this project, it looks great!

The lowered chest piece makes a difference. Looks better.
Anyway, the third and fourth pics looks good IMO

Well whatever it is, this has been an awesome project! I wish I can do what you can do.

Now lets get some colors on this :D

Actually, that loss of height proportion you are concerned about actually helps the model. It diesn't hurt it one bit. Picture four is definately the best mode for his robot form, it just needs to have groin guards added to the front of the joints to hide them. It otherwise seriously improves the look of the model.

I agree. I would even have the whole mold drop down a teensy bit more onto those bent parts, so they mesh with the groin more. But regardless of that, pic 4 also spreads the legs out more, which was kind of an issue for me on this project. It does look tons better this way.

Yeah.. I see what mench0y is saying. I think the problem is that that G1 toy's legs are deceptively shorter than we would probably tend to presume. His tail tapers off pretty quickly and adds to his overall wide bulky muscular stance. But yeah, at this point, it looks like the shortest path to reaching a bulky stature would also shorten him losing his height. I guess, at this stage, it'll pretty much be a tradeoff between whether you think the height is the more critical factor or the bulky look. Any pics with him standing next to an MP Prime?

Beyond that, it's a fabulous piece and seems like just another in your line of fabulous work. And no one could argue that each and every of those variations don't look fantastic.

Yeah. I more or less agree with most of the people saying he could do with wider hips. Maybe not as wide as the version where you bent them using the current joints, (then again, the hips need widening along with it, since it looks like a skeletons hips this way. If you do it like the G1 toy, part of the hips were connected to that folding joint)
but that might not look so bad if his thighs were bulked up. I know you mentioned a concern with modifications widening the tail, but if you tapered it at the knee it might fit.

Lower torso helps. I would only suggest raising it if you end up extending the arms, just so you can keep the wrists at the underside of his groin height that they are in that lowered torso picture.

I also think his dino head could do with a jaw that's not so low. I don't know if his teeth area is too long or what. Maybe if it were shortened down to where the base of the triangles on both the top and bottom sets of teeth.
and the dino neck looks like it could be wider, at least at the base. it needs to slant/taper out a little more.

I can't tell how the folding tail kibble work with the leg/tail transformation though.

I tend to agree with Tramp in that while the legs may currently look odd with that bent-out look, it suits Grimlock a lot better than making him tall but gangly, as he tends to be so far.
I think the think that throws me off, and the reason his legs look too short that way, is that his torso looks so long, largely due to the big abs gap between the chest mass and what is currently the groin plate.
I don't know how easily it could be accomplished and what effect it would have, but would it be feasible to shorten that gap and use what is cureently the hip area to act as the abs? Then you could add a new groin plate and hips a la G1, and it should look more in proportion.
