Why the long face, Rodimus? Being leader isn't that bad is it?

Actually, these pictures make me think he *can* turn into Rodimus. The back setup suggests a fully formed Roddie vehicle mode, the face seems to rotate and even the gun looks like it cxan transform.

I have reservations.

For those that argued the MP Grimlock was WAY too similar in transformation and actual likeness to his G1-toy self, I see the toy, at least right now in that light.

I really hope they used all the joints and such on the robot, because they did nothing to upgrade the trailer from the G1 version. Unfolds.

So, the robot. If the creators missed the boat here, and it looks like they might have, it SHOULD have two modes, Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime. At this time, it looks like it does not which we be VERY disappointing to me anyway.

Other than some new joints and articulation how would this really be considered an MP? Yes, I hear it has a face changing gimmick from young to old, but the face is not the only thing that makes Hot Rod.

I am very, very reserved on my feelings for this toy. I enjoy MP's and the Hot Rod/Rodimus character so I am almost 100% sure that it will find space on my shelf, but I was really hoping for more, again from what we can see, but maybe my thoughts are unrealistic based on engineering possibilities and cost.

And, like all Masterpiece items - it's ugly. Crap face, ugly legs - I'd rather add ball joints to G1 Rodimus' legs and arms and leave it at that.

I was looking forward to a G1 esq Rodimus, because I loved him as a kid - but this falls far short of expectations. You could do better with the joints from a model Gundam kit and a regular G1 Rodimus.

Maybe he suffers from the typing equivalent of Van Horton's Syndrome.

i can't agree with you more, if grimlock wasn't who he was and that i didn't collect masterpieces i would not have got him, he is practically g1 grim with articulation and this rodimus is looking the same as well. Fansproject is looking more appealing so far but i will buy this guy anyways cause it's a masterpiece....sigh, disappointed!!!

I second that. The thing is though, that there would be no reason to make grimlock more complicated. I still think that the kibble should of been hidden, I know the kibble was in the cartoon but it could of been a transformation option. It's also the same with Rodimus, the G1 toy just needed some articulation and the odd tweek. G1 starscream has been begging for a complete overhaul, same with megatron and prime. So when I hear of an MP coming up I always hope it's one that had a poor G1 robot mode. BEcuase Rodimus is such an easy upgrade from G1 to MP they have to put some extra enginuity such as Hot Rod to Rodimus, otherwise it is just a cop out.

So people who want a MP Rodimus accurate to the G1 toy are disappointed and people who want a MP Rodimus that offers a significant deviation from the G1 toy are disappointed.

I wonder how interesting it would be if TakaraTomy chose to use the New Rodimus design for the next MP toy. I can imagine the mixture of confusion and fanrage from such a scenario!

MP Megatron was initially planned to incorporate a chamber for the "Star of Cybertron" and come with the Key to Vector Sigma. But it wasn't implemented.

What would be great is if they implement a feature wherein Rodimus can fit MP Convoy's Matrix of Leadership into him. So there'd be some form of continuity in the series.

Maybe he was yelling in frustration. That's kind of how I feel about this toy at the moment. I'll reserve final judgement until we learn definitely whether or not it has a Hot Rod mode as well as the paint job scheme which at this point would have to be truly amazing and something unique/special in order to wow me.

I guess I'm really surprised that the flames aren't molded into his chest and trailer. Why would this be? The only reason i can think of is if they were going to reuse this mold for something else later down the road. However, this IS Rodimus Prime so I don't know how you reuse this mold.

Very lackluster and unexciting. I wasn't really that thrilled with Masterpiece Grimlock (though that was partially because of the insane and unnecessary initial markup in his price that was obviously unjustified considering his TRU price being the same as Starscream and Skywarp) but I feel like even that toy was leaps and bounds better than what I'm seeing here with MP Roddy.

Show us the gimmicks! That's got to be what makes this toy cool, right?

I can understand everyone's frustration. I think it's really too early to hand out a "This thing sucks" judgement(not saying you are). It hasn't been officially announced. MP Starscream changed quite a bit between prototype and final product. Maybe they will mold the flames, maybe not.

I can't help it though, I'm a Rodimus/Hot Rod whore. They could paint a turd red and orange and put a spoiler on it and I'd probably think it's awesome

I was hoping he would have a chest compartment too. They don't have to include the matrix, as most of us have MP Convoy, so it would be passed on from him. And thos MP megatron features, never made it too the production prototype. I have to admit, some of them were pretty kool. The Megatron sketches were amazing, he looked so good, even the face was spot on, if anything that should of made it to the final version.

The flames won't be molded on as it's a paint job, and not every MP is going to be repainted into another character, they maybe repainted into different versions, but some characters are strictly that chracter, MEgatron can't be repinted and neither can grimlock, he can never be trypticon, and rodimus is rodimus. Becuase they repaint so much we expect it, but some molds are too unique to beable to adopt another persona, and I don't think hasbro or Takara are that cheap.

From the lukewarm response MP Rodimus has received so far, I must wonder:

What do my fellow Seibertronians expect from the MP line of products?

I ask this because it seems like there's little cohesiveness with respect to what people are disliking about the prototype. Normally, criticism of products show a common thread that most agree on but so far, people have been saying somewhat simply and broadly that they expected something more.

As I understand it, the Masterpiece line was conceived as a collector oriented product line by TakaraTomy that focused on G1 characters/toys. Obviously that's changed with MP movie Starscream but the basic premise behind the line seems to be the same and the prototype of MP Rodimus seems to fit the guidelines of the MP line just fine.

Is the extremely high projected price of $200 the significant factor here in the reception? If it was $150 or less, would people have a different view of the prototype?

I totally agree with the face. The minute I saw the face, I said this face looks like some politicians dude, hehee.

Ok, onto the prototype. Indeed, he looks skinny and scrawny. The side view is even worst. I just wish he was a little bit massive. Also, he looks short. Hopefully, he's the same height as either Grimlock or the seekers. Despite, the nagativism, I will definitely get MP RPrime. Personally, I still think he looks better than MP Seekers, can't stand that samurai hip kibble! As for the bottom part, it's okay and will be fine once it is painted. I assume his small chest cavity won't be having the same Matrix as Prime/Magnus since it look smaller. Last but not least, I hope he can stand on his own and not flimsy. I don't like that supporting rod on his back. This remind me of MP seekers.

my guess is that rod is there to keep him standing if the case is bumped, and also, since it's a prototype, it probably isn't the most stable of materials.

My thoughts exactly. It's only a prototype so it may not have completely working joints so it may not be able to be posed in a way to provide a stability so the display stand is there to prop it up.

For me, more or less this...except even $150 is too much. I might be more impressed or excited if it were around the $100 range, which I suppose is still possible, but probably highly unlikely. I'm looking at this fig as a $150+ piece.

I, too, was underwhelmed with Grimlock. He's a plenty decent figure, but at nearly $150, I'm going to have higher expectations...and honestly, he's probably the least impressive design of the whole MP line to date. Don't get me wrong, he looks great, spot on accuracy, but if you up the anti that much, I'm going to expect more. Nothing about the fig really screamed a near 50% cost increase to me.

The problem is Rodimus' model doesn't allow for a much better transformation scheme while remaining accurate. It's the same sort of problem Grimlock had. Except in Roddy's case his alt. mode is totally dependant on that trailer covering up his sleek robot form.

BUT if he turns into Hot Rod, I'll be all over this. Because a G1 accurate Hot Rod robot mode with a G1 accurate vehicle mode for one of my favorite all time TFs would make this into a must buy.

Albeit an overly expencive must buy.

Edit: And they could totally repaint this. Primus anyone? Black Rodimus? Crystal Clear Rodimus? And those are just the ones based on past toys.
