Used a gunmetal base with drybrush silver and a metallic blue-gray with copper highlights for the robot parts. The cannons were drilled out and refilled with epoxy putty, then painted clear blue and clear orange over a base orange.
Let me know what you think.

Oops, I said the cannons were a clear blue and clear orange over orange base...I meant a silver base...I'm an idiot for not proofreading.

Some better-lit pictures would be better. The lighting is kind of detracting from being able to see the details.

No, they can not combine anymore. I'm not worried about that though, because they never combined in the movie. I covered & molded the areas where they combine in epoxy putty.

No large amount of skill needed. Just a few bits of welding wire, some super glue and some styrene cut and painted to spec and job done.

No its copper welding wire. If you look at the hi-res cgi render his cannons have copper wiring running through them. I simulated this look by bending the copper welding wire.
