Forgive me as I'm not sure exactly where to put this. Mods please feel free to delete or move as necessary.

Did Seibertron.com employ some new ads over the weekend? It seems to specifically affect the forums. I'm specifically getting an add banner at the bottom that likes to push its way up and have accidentally clicked it a couple times because it moved up on me when I was clicking.

I'm trying to figure out if this is something from the site itself or if I might have gotten some kind of adware/malware on my computer. It seems like whatever it is started yesterday. In any case, it is extremely annoying, I'm hoping this isn't the new normal for the forums.

I saw a weird new ad iteration this morning I haven't seen before. An ad embedded in the middle of a post. Specifically Emerje's post at the top of page 340 in the Kingdom thread. Weird.

Sadly yes it is.. I can understand regular ads as sites apparently need tehm to operate, but when they become an intrusion on a persons experience that's when I decide to visit those sites less and less because it's just too annoying accidentally clicking on something that likes to pop up sneakily in your way. I've already stopped visiting two other sites recently for the same MO.

Haven't seen that one.

Though have seen the one between page changes. Its a full screen ad covering the entire page and it won't go away unless you manually dismiss it.

This is a bit extreme of an ad if you ask me. We already have a full right panel full of ads, 2 more ad strips at the top of every page.

I can understand the overlayed ad at the bottom, but the one that interferes with regular navigation that one is a step too far I think.

Though next time it may be wiser to directly pm Ryan or the site staff (Burn is not site staff FYI) so problems are noticed and get solved quicker.

Does seibertron.com have any connection or shared staff with unicron.com? I'm getting the same ads on that website now as well.

You'll find that most websites don't have direct control over what ads are displayed. The bulk of the algorithm is based on the users interests. Both sites are probably using the same ad provider (I would assume Google) so it's no surprise then that the same person would attract the same ads over both websites.

My apologies for the confusion. I meant to say the same ad Pop up system, ( tab on the bottom of the browser) which just recently started showing up on both sites, where it never was on either before.

Same answer. They're probably using the same ad provider.

The ads are automatic, only Ryan has access to the ad account and he's only ever had to step in a couple of times to adjust settings when a few inappropriate ads have popped up.

There are some site updates happening apparently, though. The drop down menu at the top of the site has changed order, the forum menu is now to the right and is just a button. It's screwing with my muscle memory, I'm used to it being left of center and then moving down to the Transformers toys forum link.

Makes no sense to me as to why it was moved so far over. But eh, I've seen a lot of decisions made about this site over the decade plus I've been here that's made no sense to me. Such is life.
