We CAN blame EVERYONE for screwing up that whole premise - because now we no longer have that. If anything, it's just comes down to Autobots in disguise...and that's even stretching it (three NASCAR vehicles driving around anywhere other than a race track is not a disguise...especially with mech weapons surrounding their frame - they really do look like they came right out of another awesome 80's cartoon - M.A.S.K. I mean, you really need to check this out!

Razorback is awfully similar looking to one of them - Rhino looks an awful lot like our fearless Autobot leader does now, as well as Arcee looks just like Vampire and the list goes on and on and on...it's like Bay and his team and Hasbro has really lost touch of it's roots and decided to "copy" MASK stuff to make a new transformers toy line and movies from - and they don't care - they are making money! It's really is a shame.
How do we no longer have the oringal premise of "robots in disgise"? Because Irone hide is a Topkick truck and not a mini van? Cause Optimus has flames? Bee is a Camaro and not a beetle? This is not 1984. Were up to 2010. I want my TF to have a little flash (and consequently, thats what they have- A little flash) IMO, non of the autobots or decepticons have been overly falshy. I think they fit a modern day world preety darn good while still being atractive to the average audience.
As far as the nascar bots (wreckers), minus the guns on them, the differance between them and say the destructicons? They had an F1 car on their team roaming around the streets. And what about Mirage? Another race car. So this isn't the first time a full blown race cars have gone around the streets of the local neighborhood.
Anyhow, I'm sure there "Mech tech" modes are just that. Modes for battle. Concidering Patrick dempsey is a race car driver in the movie they proabably have stanard modes as well.

Now the area looks to have a stepped lip around the edges with no visible firewall armor.

Yeah it does look like they changed the CG model a little. Can't tell yet if I like it or don't. Probably not a big enough difference for me to care, but we'll see. And wow, that is ONE BIG GUN! Megatron's gun better be at least that big or I'm gonna be mad

Its kind of like Basic Instinct, but not in a good way...
Goddammit, now I can't unsee it.

Hey good you pointed that out!
I believe its the new abdomen Prime gets
We have seen these in the Ultimate Optimus Prime toy ( which I didnt like by the way partially cause of the abdomen).
I was hoping it was a toy only thing ( Just like with the Mechtech weapons, but in the same picture we can see a BIG *SS gun as well, so that hope is gone as well)
This does not make me happy, I really liked the orginal model/sculp. Why does Optimus need abdomen???
What do you think?
Ok, then I ask you what disguises would you have them be?froneyzone wrote: No S#!+ this isn't 1984 - that is EXACTLY why you would think there would be BETTER disguises!
Ever scene a million dollors lay right in front of you on a table? Just cause you haven't scene it in person, doesn't mean they don't exist. I live along the higway 5 corador in northern California. Main truck route from Redding to LA. I drive this freeway regularly for work as well as made several trips from Norcal to LA. While not nessasarly exactly like Optimus, I have seen plenty of custom trucks run this route. Private truckers take great pride in their rigs.froneyzone wrote: And since you started it - how many Peterbilt's have you've honestly seen driving around with that many flames and/or color scheme? Um.. No. Your rant doesn't hold any water. In fact their a huge leak at the bottom. If i saw their alt modes today, i might just think they were damn nice cars/trucks. Not that they must be alien robots from another planet.froneyzone wrote: The whole point of my little rant still holds true. Your aurgument still doesn't hold up. In nearly every generation of TF... In every universe... Their alt modes,.. Autobot and decepticons alike have always been overy flashy!! From G1, to energon, to animated, to TF: Prime. This is nothing new in the TF universe. Could you go out and by an F1 car like Mirrage in G1? could you get a Tyrell P34 F1 car like Drag Strip in G1?? Wheeljacks Lancia rally car alt mode? The list goes on and on dude.froneyzone wrote:You say non of them have been overly flashy - SAY WHAT? You couldn't even buy Bumblebee's 2nd alt mode back when the first movie debuted. And that is my point -.
And its been said many times that G1 was nothing more than a 30 minute toy comercial. So what? hasbro is in it for the money. Always have, always will be. Problem is that you were dooped just like everyone else in the 80's with flashy alt modes. It wasn't a problem for you then, why is all of a sudden a problem for you now? TF like it or not, is a buisness. Also, GM donnated alot of vehicles for the movie which cut down on cost. Like it or not, people don't want to see a bunch of stock to stockish vehicles roaming around. They want vehicles that will get them excited. And you just not going to get that with an 84 dodge Caravan. I have more to say but my lunch break is over.froneyzone wrote:Hasbro gave in and decided to let money do the talking...and it's been said many times before...the first movie looked like one long dragged out car commercial - and because of that the movie stories hold no merit.

I don't know if I dislike it or not. In a way, those things always looked kinda like sagging robo-boobs. Especially on the toys. But with them gone, it leaves him kind of looking more athletic, but also more vulnerable. Last thing I'd probably do after being stabbed thru the chest in the last movie is ditch some of that frontal protection armor... but that's just me.
On Ultimate Optimus, that change isn't nearly as bad as the rest of the figure. With the front wheels on the arms and the goofy legs, the redesigned chest is one of my lesser complaints. But it'd be nice to see a remolded ROTF Prime with this chest, just for comparison.

... But it doesn't work in the toys. (Hope you're not mad I finished your sentence. I just hate sentence fragments! )
Don't get me wrong though, it is good on screen, just not in toys. Guess the blend of speed stars makes it.

i feel dirty but i agree with a lot you say
- the alt modes look convincing
- the acusation of the movies being commercials is to ignore g1 comics and cartoon, where bots and cons would line up for a roll call
