It's attitudes like this that are the reason Murphy was a dick to us on the boards. You do realize that all he did was ask for our input and used what he could.
Without him, there would have been no Peter Cullen. Accept it. Yes, we would have petitioned. And it would have been as successful, and taken as seriously, as that petition to rename The Two Towers because it was disrespectful to 9/11 victims.
We are **** on the heels of Hollywood. Almost everyone I talk to about this movie, right after saying how cool it looks, badmouths "the fanboys".
As much of a dick as we was, we owe him one for getting the sheer awesomeness of the true Optimus Prime on the big screen.

IIRC, being "stuck in 1984" was prefectly acceptable for a transfan to be untill Bay came along & said, " Yeah, it's crap....my stuff's better." Not to mention, apparently Hasbro is stuck in the 80's too, because most of the movie toys' repaints/remolds are designed to make them look like their G1 counterparts (Ratchet, Starscream, & Jazz at least).

1.) Bay has never directly said "The original sucks, mine's better." He said his was easier to adapt for the big screen (and he's correct in that.) That in no means says that he said it was all crap.
2.) For that matter, no one officially said it was bad to be "stuck in the '80s". Other fans might've, but in the long run, those in control of this whole thing have never said "Wow. What idiots. No." Being "stuck" is still perfectly acceptable.
3.) Hasbro is not stuck in the '80s, but they've enough respect for those who are. (And yes, plenty are.) They did it to appease the fans because they appreciate our business and they accept our input. They can't always address it, but they damn sure try to make everyone happy if possible. Doing so and pleasing a certain demographic does not make them "stuck in the '80s". You should be happy they're willing to accommodate our concerns. We could be getting "Rainbow Hippie Former Bots" or some weird crap like it.
You say to be considerate of other people's opinions and thoughts, well you could extend the same courtesy to both Bay and Hasbro.
I'm not sure where you get these ideas from, but the well has run dry. Give it a few days and see if it fills back up, and if not...then let it go.

I'll give you that one on the Cullen issue, but you have to admit, there were times Murphy was just a dick, simply because he could. He wanted to sue TFW, etc.
For someone who wants the fans to embrace him and become a part of them, he sure didn't ingratiate himself with us. He was extremely abrasive and quite rude a good portion of the time.
I realize he's human like the rest of us and prone to this type of thing, but come on...sometimes a jerk is just a jerk and no amount of excuses will change that.

Oh, you're absolutely right. I hate the mans guts on so many levels. Elitist pig who got off by making fun of internet nerds. The funny thing is, and we may not realize this in our little TF bubble, but most of the world thinks like him about us. Doesn't excuse his behavior though.
I remember one time I actually told him straight up, "Hey Don, quit spamming the forums." And Neko said "OMG he said it!!" That was the greatest. He didn't reply to that one.
You may not have been around here last winter, but I had a Spiderman 3 sig that said, "Hey Don! Spiderman's gonna be soooo awesome!" Of course, he got the last laugh on that one...
But another thing I hate is the naive optimism of some of the fans. It's kind of like how, back in 2004, people made fun of us liberals for crossing our fingers for Kerry. Even other democrats shook their heads. And they were right to do so, as history has shown. It's like that with me now. I see all these bright, youthful posts about how the fan community does have the power to effect change if we just speak out in one voice and it literally makes me sick.
Makes me wonder how often these people get out, and I have no girlfriend and spent the 4th dicking around my apartment looking at the internet and playing Castlevania on DS. But I have a great social life at school and believe you me, we're all nerds at visual and sound effects school. I'll tell you right now, the TF fan community is damn low on the nerd totem pole, let alone Hollywood's.

I'm apart of this community and I think you're all nerds
Grimshock wrote:Yeah, the close-minded thing is quite silly. I was originally so pumped for this movie. Even thought some change would be fantastic. But, as I learned more I realized this movie was going to be NOTHING about TF's.
I am certainly fully aware of what's in this movie. I've read pretty much every piece of news on it. My decision not to go see it is absolutely based on fact. I do not want to give these people my money after so callously disregarding the wishes of the fans (with the exception of Cullen) and developing such inappropriate character designs (muscle car for Bumblebee?, Hummer for Ratchet?)
Nemesis Cyberplex wrote:Edit: Dark Zarak pretty much summed up what was previously this post a hell of a lot better without wasting nearly as many words. Ok, I'm tired, I'll shut up now.
Dark Zarak wrote:Well, whatever. Closed-minded or not, what he sees doesn't float his boat. Let him be. His loss.
I would have been right there with him, I think, if I wasn't going to CGI school and gaining such a tremendous respect for it and the process of creating it.
The Spiderman fans got an accurate portrayal. The Batman fans not only got an accurate portrayal, but when Hollywood ran away with it, they were given yet another accurate portrayal.
Is it too much for us to ask for a little G1 in the movie. You have to admit, too many changes were made. I realize there are so many different series out there now, but having seen the movie, and loving it at first, I'm starting to wonder now. Underneath the fun, it was really stupid, stupider than it could've been. How cool will it be in 5 years when those kind of effects are on prime time television?
