Re: New Galleries: Transformers Age of Extinction and other Movie Universe toys
Well I have to give props to them for Crosshairs. They engineered the figure so that people aren't calling it 'horrible, ugly, obvious, brick-like kibble', they're calling it a 'trenchcoat'.
Kudos for fooling the community into thinking the kibble looks 'cool' vs. seeing it as yet another lazy-butt shellformer.

Kibble isn't always necessarily a bad thing. It can help change the sillohuette of a figure and make it look like more than just a humanoid robot. Starscream's wings and shoulder vanes, Prowl's door wings and Shrapnel's "horns" are all technically kibble, and yet they are fundamental parts of the character's design- they give them the distinctive look that we all love. Crosshair's trenchcoat-kibble is a similar phenomenon. It sets him apart from the other robots and gives him a unique shape, in addition to being somewhere to store the bits of car. Plus, it's part of the actual character model, so we can't blame Hasbro for this one.
Also, surely a car Autobot that doesn't follow the "Back of car becomes legs, front of car becomes chest, doors become wings" formula is a good thing?
Ha ha Transformers go brrrrr

Construct-Bot Grimlock is better-looking than Voyager Grimlock.

And I noticed something: Construct-Bots uses a numbering system too, only with E (which I think stands for "Episode") instead of Series. Great, more obscure info to document
The Dinos look pretty decent, but I'm kind of the fence with this line.

Strafe looks kinda generic without his shoulder-pteranodon-heads thing. On the other hand, he'd make an excellent base for a Hun-Grrrrr custom.

why do these look better than the main line toys???

I have been into transformers since 1984.
While I love G1 I also love new innovations and takes on the characters.
I prefer official Hasbro releases of stuff for the most part
I'm not a huge fan of Japanese original Transformers media or designs.
It's easier for me to say which are my LEAST favorite toy lines: Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise.
TFCon List: Classics Skywarp, General Optimus, BW Airrazor, Transmetal Tarantulus, Alternity Prime, Fire Convoy

I'm amused that the Dino-Riders have the same proportions as MTMTE Swerve and Tailgate
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.

I'm LOVING the Riders and Dinos. I'm gonna try and pick up Lockdown first. I love how it looks like one of his eyes is twitching, and the cues to animated in the toy. I totally found some Construct-bots Strafe's in a Canadian Wal-mart, and they refused to sell it to me

They all use the same clips and ball joints. As a bonus, the ball joints are compatible with Kre-o ball joints.
I like these guys. They look a lot more interesting then the regular simplified transformation lines from the movie. If I pick up the Dinobots, I'll try to pick these up too.

This was my first time putting my hands on Construct-Bots. I own all the rest that came out, just haven't had a chance to open any of them and I never bothered to tinker around with them at any of the events I attended that Hasbro had them out at such as SDCC, NYCC, etc.
I actually really like the Construct-Bots. I can't believe how huge they are for the price. The $10 ones are an absolute bargain. Yah, they're a little unorthodox. But as a cheap way to get some really nice head sculpts and some interesting takes on some of our favorite characters, the Construct-Bots were a really nice treat.
My favorite is my "custom" Soundwave. I swapped out the yellow parts with the black parts from an extra Starscream I have. He turned out pretty nice. I also was pleasantly surprised that the 2 pack of Prime and Megatron had unique head sculpts from the regular Elite Class releases. Unnecessary, but welcomed at the same time!
The Dinobot Riders were fun little basic toys. For the $5 retail price, I think they're very worth it. If they were $8 to $10 they'd be disappointing, but for $5 what the heck! Lockdown is my favorite of that group.
Hopefully they'll figure out a way to make an additional scale of figures for smaller characters like Bumblebee and Cliffjumper that should only come to Soundwave, Prime and Megatron's chests. Not small scale like the Dinobot Riders, but a happy compromise that shortens up the legs or something.

That combining gimmick is really neat, I think. I was looking forward to that on the Beast Hunters Constructbots, but those never even came out.

Me too. Were they confirmed as cancelled when Target's exclusive Predacons Rising stuff shelfwarmed, or is there still some glimmer of hope? I just got CB Predaking on clearance, and he's a hell of a lot better than I guessed he'd be.ScottyP wrote:That combining gimmick is really neat, I think. Oddly, these 2-packs were what I've been looking forward to most ever since Toy Fair, and I'm a tad disappointed to see the armor dinos don't also have their own robot modes, but I guess this makes them the equivalent of Action Master partners.
Though what Optignaw's combination REALLY reminds me of is this:

New Gallery: Age of Extinction Generations Leader Class Grimlock
- Motto: "'Til All Are One!"
- Weapon: Twin Shock-Concussion Missiles
Seibertron.com is proud to present a gallery of Age of Extinction Generations Leader Class Grimlock. This is our 17th gallery from the Transformers Age of Extinction toy line! Leader Class Grimlock is one of the most anticipated figures from the upcoming toy line which will be officially released on May 17th at brick-and-mortar stores.
While he isn't much bigger in T-Rex mode than his Voyager Class counterpart, but is much taller in robot mode. The new AOE Leader Class toys are similar in size to Ultra Class toys from previous Transformers toy lines. One striking feature of this version of Grimlock is the large amounts of chrome paint that are on this toy, which appears to be a divisive feature amongst many fans.
Check out all of our pics to decide if you'll be picking up Leader Class Grimlock. When you do find him, please make sure you stop by our sightings section to let others know that you found him!
Just to clarify where this toy came from, it was purchased on eBay.

I'm a dinosaur/monster nut, and would consider the beast modes the primary ones, but these Grimlocks do nothing but disappoint me. The other Dinobots look great, but Grimmys are just... blech.

the proportions don't really bother me as much as I thought they would. It's mainly the chrome that bothers me, because I remember how well it worked for all those transmetals figures that lost all color and started flaking. I do however feel big grimlock's bad front proportions could be offset by a thicker, longer tail.
