It seems to differ from cartridge to cartridge, probably based on usage. My Silver cartridge's battery is totally dead, and won't retain any save data at all. My Ruby is still fine though.

Sad to say you will most likely lose the save data, unless you can change the battery extremely quickly. Of course, if your save data is already being erased, there shouldn't be much of a problem should there?

Well, it's only erasing a little bit, not alot, but I guess the real issue would be trading the Pokemon somewhere safe and then fixing the battery and starting a new game...

There is another possibility...

Your cartridges might be bootlegs, and have defective SRAM.

They were from Circuit City, I don't think they were, I may have just played them too often or something...

That's fair enough. They still might be if they were used and repackaged, or whatnot, etc etc. The games are still pretty dated so there's very little chance of them being totally brand new. If you can take photos of the carts, I can identify whether they're bootlegs or not...

But, whatever you decide to do, I wish you luck!

Thanks, I think it's just like you said, they're getting old, everything looked legit, and they had that gold seal thing(Though I don't get how that's reassuring, someone could just copy it...).

It's actually more strategic than you'd think. From what I read, the pokemon on the sides can only attack the middle and their opposing sides. The Middles can attack anyone. Then there are movies like "Telekinesis" which take an opposing pokemon out of the battle for a certain number of turns. Seems to me like they did a good job to not just make it the "new version" of doubles.


I've been a pokemon fan since I was 13. Nearly 11 years later there is no stopping me. I am super excited for Black & White. I love the direction the games are headed. I agree some pokemon look "funny", but so did alot of the Johtos when I first saw them.

I don't really like the way to get your 4th pokemon into the fifth though. I hate timed things in games. Hopefully it isn't too bad.

Also personally I think Isshu is more based on the "western world" than just "New York" or one single place.

Yep. The GBA games were the last ones to use battery sustained SRAM, whereas the DS games all use non-volatile flash storage for save games. In a few more years the GBA game batteries will start dying in greater numbers as they reach the end of their life spans.

As for the new content, I haven't seen a single thing I dislike so far. I give GameFreak a big thumbs up for improving the formula once again!

The Pokeshifter does seem super annoying though... I am a bit miffed about that... But whatever, I'll only use it on an "as needed" basis. I'm not gonna go crazy and try to transfer all 200+ of my pets all at once.

As long as I get my core favourites and my Gardevoir over there, I'll be happy enough.

I liked Pokemon when it first aired where I lived, I think I was 3 or 4.
I must agree Johto did have alot off odd looking ones, but none that were as bad as some of these.
I loved Johto...

With the amount of info that has been revealed I think these games are shaping up to be awesome.

I do like that some pokemon can get new abilities and that TMs no longer break after usage. Although that makes me wonder if you can attach TMs to transfer over from the previous gen. That also makes me wonder if they re did the TMs and what is going to happen with the HMs.

My theory is that TMs will be harder to obtain as a result of their unlimited usage, and that some of them will be version exclusive to encourage players to share them with each other.

I doubt cross-gen trading TMs will work since it hasn't worked in the past.

As for HMs... I doubt we'll see any difference with those, since they're essential for basic gameplay. They'll remain unattachable and untradeable.

Well in Gen 3 you could attach a Tm to a pokemon then pal Park it to gen 4 and you'd have the pokemon and the TM. Since they are changing how TMs work, I'm curious if you can even attach items to your pokemon when you transfer them over to Black and White or not. I guess that remains to be seen.
