Probably because of all the Primal takes they had David Kaye do in his BW audition, and they may have actually based this younger Prime with his portrayal in mind. Also its good marketing to pull in the BW VA fan crowd.hmbtnguy wrote:What I don't understand is why they got BW's Megatron to do the voice of Optimus. I always loved the goofy evilness of his Megatron voice, but it just doesn't appeal to me as Optimus.
David Kaye does have talent, if the voices aren't liked it's likely due to the specifications in how the Directors want the character to sound. ie not like G1 Prime. Prime voices and Megatrons, are pretty different really, just like the series themselves.
Interveiw of David Kaye on BW and BM.

The Greedo thing is more comparable to taking a figure they say is G1 Starscream and sticking waist kibble imo. It's altering an existing thing to make it allegedly better.
This series doesn't do that. It's a new seperate series, and imo, captures a lot of the spirit and atmosphere of G1 in a way no show has.
And for those who whine about humans enemeis; the G1 comic had several, and despite the fact people had to pay for it, it still outlasted the show by about 5 years, so not only can it work, it HAS worked.

There's a fine line between improving something and going too far. The humans in the old series didn't dominate the fight against the deceps. That I think is one thing that could sink this tuna before it gets very far.

I don't mind the human enemies, I do mind another Coby, Lori and Bud. I hope the girl we've seen in clips isn't going to be put in that role.
Overall, I'm excited to give this show a chance.

I don't care for it, but I'll probably watch it. One thing I liked about the G1 Cartoon, was that the robots looked like they could turn into machines; the transformers in this, at least to me, look a lot more human. This isn't bad per say, and it might only be my perception, but I don't care for it. Also, the autobot voices, or at least Prime, doesn't sound very commanding to me. I'm sure the guy who acts it does a great job, but the voice just doesn't have a "presence" to me. It's hard to say whether or not I will enjoy watching it without seeing a few episodes. Who knows, the character developement and plot could be amazing.

There was a time when beign a Transfan meant i was considered...how can i say...it was consider kiddy. When the live-action movie came out, people accepted it 'cuz most liked the movie. It made me feel a little bit more like a fan of "normal" thing. That i wa sno different from a fan of any toher serie...
But this ABOMINATION will take away the minimal respect Transformer had acquired recently.
Oh yeah, what did i forgot...oh yeah. PRIME, AS A LEADER, LOOK EVEN SHITTIER THAN RODIMUS PRIME!!!

In another TF site, I got shouted down for commenting negatively on the latest incarnation of TF. Sure, we all need to evolve and such, story lines (though kid oriented) ought to mature and all...................but the lazy Teen Titanesque character designs are cr@p! Have they gone lazy or what?!
Sure, the fine line between the toy and the toon has all but evaporated (i.e. they all look exactly like the toon and have not been "Floro Deryfied") but, being a bit of old school, would it have hurt to have at least utilized the classic Gaogaigar style designs? The story (Brave series) may have been a bit to the Power rangers side but................take a google at it and you'll know what I mean.
Perhaps the only saving grace for this show will be its storyline ( well just take a look at IDW's take on the TF, interesting storyline but atrocious artwork)

For those of you complaining that Prime doesn't have the same commanding voice in this version, that's because he's not supposed to be that guy.
This is a different Optimus, and this guy's not the head honcho of the Autobots, so much as a starship captain (or, from what I understand, more like the foreman of a maintenance crew), who's suddenly had to step up to role he wasn't trained for.

No the humans didn't dominate the fights, however neither did the decepticons. They were dominated by the Autobots on a weekly, then daily basis. It's hard to take villains in ANY franchise seriously, when your butt gets handed to you in every possible way OVER and OVER and OVER again. Starscream is a perfect example. While his character was well developed, it easy to laugh with Megatron at him, simply because he was beaten in every encounter by every Autobot cept Bumblebee. In episode One Starscream gets beat by Cliffjumber (a mini Autobot) in a staff fight! Sorry, but villains like this seem more joke and less threat. However, make the Autobots seem smaller and weaker than the Deceps (Megs practically towers over Optimus)and the villains become a much more viable threat. The audience no longer finds them to be a joke. Using villianous humans will provide the Autobots with a challenge (one that is more easily overcome)while whetting appetites for the more ominous Decepticons who will take the fight to the Autobots HARD. With less Transformers being released at once, this does leave more time for character development. And for those who say that NO WAY that humans could ever be a threat to any transformer; I guess the name Circutbreaker means nothing to any of you.
Simply give the show a chance. Much like my previous posts about the movie on many sites, I'm not crazy about many of the designs, but I'm more than certain there is a reason for them being done the way they are, that works for the style of film/media/animation they are attempting to produce.

Since when did TFs ever look like GaoGaiGar? Or mecha at all? The day transformers actually look like mecha is going to be my field day.

silly question, but what is 'mass shifting' in reference to Tf transforming on screen? is it when 'kibble' vanishes?

it's mainly refering to the size of a transformers alt mode compared to there robot mode.
Most transformers seem to change sizes when they transform.
The most obvious ones being guys like G1 Megatron and Soundwave

@ Renovating..............the G1 Japanese version cartoons more or less looked like the Brave series anime. Heck, take a look at the Studio Ox artwork..........now that's what I call "Heavy Metal".
