That Bot wrote:Fires_Of_Inferno wrote:You know, after thinking aboot it, why are some people upset about a more humorous and kid-friendly? It worked wonders for Beast Wars, making it the best Transformers series to date. And the humor seems to work well in the MTMTE comics. So why do some people have a negative reaction to it (aside from what happened in Animated I mean)?
Because so many people in this fandom are attached to these false memories of G1 as being the greatest thing in the universe, and as they've gotten older and mainstream TF media has continued to target a young audience, they see this as a threat to their interest in the brand.

Leave it to Dead Metal to have the word 'Pronz' in his signature.
Sabrblade wrote:Because Hasbro (unfortunately) doesn't seem to give two cents about aesthetics in the Aligned continuity. For instance, Optimus appears in WFC with one body, and then in FOC in a different body with no in-story explanation. And, Optimus has one body in Prime that turns into a long-nosed truck, while in Rescue Bots his body looks a bit different and turns into a flat-nosed truck, despite these two bodies supposing to be the same body. And then the Covenant of Primus book drew him in his Binder of Revelation body in all of its illustrations that took place, even the ones that took place on Cybertron in the past and the ones set on Earth in the present, despite other characters getting their own respective, distinct Cybertron-based and Earth-based bodies in the same illustrations.El Duque wrote:Besides if he were a ghost why would he have a new design?
In other words, Optimus could be drawn here with bunny ears and neon green polka dots and could still be a ghost if the makers wanted to go that route.![]()

Yup, ROTF is where that phrase came from.Fires_Of_Inferno wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Yeah, so the Matrix of Leadership went bye bye.
No more Matrix. No more Primes.
Because for some reason, Optimus has become "the last prime". I'm not entirely sure when that started, I think it was with ROTF, but I could be wrong.

Though, one could make the argument that it actually originated with whatever continuity had Optimus be the latest in a long line of Primes and didn't have another Prime succeed him, as the phrase used in ROTF could also be interpreted as merely meaning "The most recent Prime".
Not that we know of.MightyMagnus78 wrote:Apart from Sentinel and Zeta has there ever been any other 'Prime' in any continuity that has preceded Optimus?
Nope. Neither were chosen by the Matrix.MightyMagnus78 wrote:Was Alpha Trion not considered a Prime, and Ultra Magnus for that matter?

She wasn't Optimus's direct predecessor, which is what I think he was asking about.Fires_Of_Inferno wrote:Solus Prime.

Though, we know nothing of who, if anyone, preceded the Optimus Primes of RiD (not Car Robots, but RiD) and any version of the Unicron Trilogy.Nope. Neither were chosen by the Matrix.MightyMagnus78 wrote:Was Alpha Trion not considered a Prime, and Ultra Magnus for that matter?
And only Aligned Alpha Trion has ever been officially considered a Prime.
Well, it depends from continuity from continuity, but as far as the G1 cartoon/movie went, only those chosen by the Matrix were Primes.MightyMagnus78 wrote:OK, so to qualify as a 'Prime' you would have to be chosen by the Matrix and as such be worthy of it? It's not quite as simple then as just passing it on to the next in line as Optimus did with Magnus?

Thanks for the info Sabrblade, really great stuff. Never really got into Animated and missed the Unicron trilogy altogether for my shame.
BTW what's the deal with the 13 'original' Primes then? Did they have fortnightly rota with a day off in the middle and pass the Matrix around or something?
That's a whole different can of worms that has no relation to the G1 cartoon.MightyMagnus78 wrote:BTW what's the deal with the 13 'original' Primes then? Did they have fortnightly rota with a day off in the middle and pass the Matrix around or something?
Nemesis?Fires_Of_Inferno wrote:Personally, I assumed that they put a little bit of themselves into the Matrix. Except for Nemesis Prime of course. Or Liege Maximo.

Yep. At least in the Aligned continuity. The beginning of this scene virtually quotes that, actually:

But as far as we know of the Aligned Thirteen, some sources claim that Prima (the leader of the Thirteen) possessed the Matrix, as it was said to be the hilt of his sword, the Star Saber. Another source, however, claims that none of them possessed the Matrix since it was a device that they created and hid away, later to be found and possessed by the present-day Optimus Prime as a symbol of his being a true Prime.Nemesis?Fires_Of_Inferno wrote:Personally, I assumed that they put a little bit of themselves into the Matrix. Wait, what continuity are we all talking of, here?
Fires_Of_Inferno wrote:Beats me. I know Nemesis Prime (The Fallen) was one of the 13 in the movie universe. I figured they did something like that in a bunch of other universes too.
