I have very little doubt in my mind.

I pray to my Lord that you are right, because that trailer put most of my reservations to rest; The designs, Bay's involvement, the fact Tyrese is in the film, etc.

I am just grateful that Will Smith is not in it...that alone makes it a much better action flick without his stupid voice/persona taking up half the damned film.

Let's hope they FORCED themselves to make it awesome!

I hope it beats Spiderman 3's opening weekend and final gross pull-in $600 million +/-...

That would give it lots of cred in everyone's book, and, more importantly, assure sequels for years to come!!!

Hell, if this is good, it might be the next saga, much like Star Wars...minus Jar jar, please.

I have never figured that one out. Why would a person want to go into a theater to see a movie more than once? Then again, I thought that when I saw the titanic... I hated that movie.

Who'd see it more than once. So far...I don't think I have seen one in theater twice... DVD's heh, that's another story. I've seen 3 movies in one day... I had free passes though and that was aswesome... other than the massive migriane I had after...

I do think I saw one movie that was a waste of 2 hours however I can't remember what it was now.

Edit: can we tell I am bagged out of my mind and just feeling like I can walk for miles... or sucked on a lemon... gack.

Personally, I think it's a little to injoke-y for its own good.

Probably was an in-joke for the die-hard fas who know the origin.

I bet the Japanese audiences will get a chuckle as well, seeing as how their robot technology is the best in the world right now.

yup i looked at the other trailer and his eyes were red. i guess they changed it.

That character. That's Jazz, right? It's been driving me nuts for months, and given the colour of his parts and the size of him, it has to be Jazz.

Not 100% on this, but I'm pretty sure I read, from someone who had read the script, that the pool 'bot was protoform Ironhide.

After looking at Ryan's images in another thread, looks like either protoform Ironhide or protoform Jazz. Has to be one of them. Ironhide just seems to big to be in a pool. Just after having read about the Autobots being near Sam's house, I thought that shot must have been around then, but if that's a protoform now it looks like it's from a lot earlier.

I'm with LuckyheWonderLlama, I'm saying Jazz.

Unless the script changed drastically (and so far it seems like it hasn't), Ironhide is the proto coming out of the pool.

Yeah, it's Ironhide. If it's not, I'll eat my hat.

I do wonder by the way: the movie is done, it'll be sent to the theaters any day now... why don't we know who the voice actors are? Please tell me it's not only Prime (Cullen) and Megs (Weaving) who have speaking roles in this...

The theater here will maybe hold a sneak preview for a couple of fans. That way there won't be a crowd and we can really enjoy the movie as geeks together, hehe :)
But I'll probably go and see it a couple of times, it's ment to be seen on the big screen. DVD on a tv screen just won't be the same.

And even though I have doubts about the amount of "robot-time" and the designs (which are still, to my mind, completely unrecognisable and cannot be distinguished from eachother... but if the 'bots have blue eyes and the 'cons have red eyes that might help a lot... and it's a nice nod to the G1 cartoon) I do have to say that I've always liked Michael Bay's cinematic style. His movies always have this very slick look about them (regardless if they have any depth to them). I hope Transformers will have that, too.

And I *really* hope an avi file of this will be online soon.....

If I like the movie, I normally do. I saw Resident Evil four time, RE: Apocalypse three, DotD 04 5 times, SW ep.3 at least three, amongst others. It's not that I like the movie theatre experience, quite the opposite. The chairs suck(that's cuz I'm 6'3", 300lbs.), it costs way to damn much, and I normally can't stand people, especially ones that go to the theatre cuz they think they can be especially obnoxious there. I do have a feeling though I'll there multiple times for this movie.

I'm not sure about how well these robot designs will work in motion. I really like them on paper, and loved them in IDW's prequel comic, but watching the trailer all I see is blurs, especially during transformations. It's hard to tell if the transformations are fudged or not!

As for this not being Transformers...well, what else could we see that would categorically define it as Transformers? I don't think this is far removed at all, and it certainly seems to fit with the spirit of the cartoon.

I'm not talking about cold hard logic... more about the "feel" or gut-instinct about it. Just too different for a hardcore original cartoon fan I suppose. Just my opinion, and I'm entitled to it :P

That wasn't directed about you, specifically, Hans! I see what you mean; Transformers is greater than the sum of its parts, is that right? I agree that this film won't succeed if it is made with a 'paint by numbers' logic.

That said, I do see a lot of the cartoon in this, and a dash of the Eighties comics.

True... but the cartoon often didn't even take place on Earth. It just had this very specific feel about it... that you won't be able to recreate in live action for sure. But it's also the robots themselves. Unlike the now-infamous in-joke, they're NOT Japanese (mecha)designs, that's the problem with it! :)

The robots just don't scream "Transformers" to me.

That said, I am going to buy the Bonecrusher figure, as for some reason I do like that toy for it's incredible off-beat character :)

I wonder, then, if there's anything this film - or any contemporary TF film - could do that would recapture that feeling. A children's cartoon is obviously going to have a different feel, a different atmosphere and ambience, than a live-action movie made 20+ years later for a different audience. Could any TF film today ever truly recreate that feeling?

Of course, I understand that the very physical nature of the robots themselves could be recreated. That's simply a matter of cosmetics. But those designs we had back in 1984 weren't the only thing that gave Transformers, whether we talk about the comics or cartoon, its distinctive feel. What, then, was the magic of Transformers past?

Yeah, I feel like a git now. After looking at one of Ryan's images in the 'eye colour' thread, it's Ironhide. You can tell by the centre yellow bit on his forehead.

i haven't been really keeping up with the sector 7 thing, but i paused the video at the part where bumblebee's radio comes on (to switch to another window) and if you do that, it flashes that little cube logo with the phrase "codeblack" next to it. and its a working password for the site.

*edit* just saw that i'm not the first to find it. oh well.

No way, mega film like this has to be experienced on the big screen first, with a cinema full of people and popcorn, you remember these types of film events.

Anyway watching the trailer again and again and just loving it, I've even grown to love bot screamer and some of the stuff I wasn't so sure of.

I always knew Bay+Spielberg was a perfect match for this film and they are not disappointing.

I don't think so. It had to do with the background paintings, the music, the off-world storylines... in a way, many episodes were fantasy, really. Sci-fi and fantasy blended together. I'll try to give you an idea of what I'm talking about: remember the episode "Cosmic Rust"? The beginning, when the Cons come across Antilla. It's an ancient, ancient city, dating back from before the dawn of time. The way it looked... the music (some sort of trumpet theme when the hologram speaks it's message of doom), the gloomy sky and rusted buildings. That just had ambience, athmosphere. You can't really recreate that in a live-action movie like this I think.
But that sort of thing is what I loved about the original series. How about golden age Cybertron in "War Dawn"? "Desertion of the Dinobots, part 2", "Sea Change", the inside of Cybertron in "Key to Vector Sigma" etc. etc. Those are some of my favourite episodes.... they just work in creating a great "feel" :)

The biggest difference in the designs are the faces, though. I don't know what it is, but I always loved the different faces of the Bots and Cons. The movie faces look way too far out. There's nothing I like about the movie designs really. Way too cluttered, too much rubbish. You can't even see clear faction logo's on them. No, the designs are a lost cause for me. Glad that most of you seem to like them now, though.
