So I was forming Devastator and I got to the halfway point and had a good laugh.
Long Haul is wearing his big boy pants!
All finished up.
Can't have a TF photo spread without a size comparison.
Just to get this out of the way; Devastator is absolutely F*CKING awesome! Regardless of which version you choose, every TF fan should experience this beast.
While the individual bots have a few spots that left me a little disappointed, the combined form leaves very little to be desired. For what I'm about to say, keep in mind that I've never seen Generations Metroplex in person. Devastator is huge, he's really gigantic. Even though I expected it, I still can't get over it. I think the Constructicons' size is even more shocking. I had them sitting up over night and every time they caught my eye, I was taken back by how big they are.
The Constucticons are fairly simple, but there are a couple clever twist here and there. They are of OK posability. Granted I haven't played with them very long, but even with elbows, I don't know how many dynamic poses I'll be able to get out of them. Hopefully I'll find that I'm wrong when I take Devastator down. Mostly what they have going for them is sheer size. Not to try and spoil anything, but looking at the pictures will paint this out pretty clearly. To get most of the team into limbs, you simply put them into vehicle mode with a slight variation or open panel.
Now that sounds like I am making Devastator out to be boring, but remember what was the first thing I said. Just a reminder, he's flipping awesome! It's the combining that really steals the show. The way all the bots peg together is equal parts simple and smart. It's like everything just feels right and fits; no muss, no fuss. Devastator feels really well thought out. He is very satisfying to build. Everything pegs together nice, tight and stable. There are clever tabs and holes that I didn't even notice until parts are needed to stay put. And then when I got to Hook
Simply awesome! For you folks waiting on Takara's version, it's going be a long hard wait; but it's going be soooo worth it.
And as always, a parting shot.
EDIT: I discovered the ankle tilt in Mixmaster after the photoshoot. C'est la vie
